You will see many rabbits, squirrels and tons of birds of all kinds! We are really the perfect location for those who love the outdoors! Cove #1 and 2 are quite spacious and tucked under the shade of large Oak trees, great for staying cool on hot days, maybe not so great if you need to recharge batteries with solar. Showers and toilets are a short walk away. All of the campsites aren't far from the main road so there is considerable road noise during the day, but it quiets down to almost none at night. There are so many stars visible after dark, it's magical. I didn't have the opportunity to meet the property manager, but I did notice him assisting other guests and the housekeeper, Janice watched out for me as a solo female camper, even bringing me leftovers from her Thanksgiving dinner. :)

Ken’s Eagles Nest was the perfect retreat for our babymoon. The cabin was exceptionally cozy and stocked with thoughtful amenities that truly exceeded our expectations — a clean composting toilet, a warm outdoor shower, an easy-to-use outdoor stove, and a great campfire pit for relaxing evenings. The huge windows offered stunning views that made the whole place feel peaceful and connected to nature. We felt comfortable, cared for, and completely recharged. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a beautiful, serene getaway!

We loved our time at eagles nest! Ken our host was great! He gave us great instructions on how to get to the site and also gave us many recommendations on places to visit around the area. I stayed at this glamping site for a weekend and absolutely loved it. The property itself is gorgeous—quiet, well maintained, and surrounded by nature. If you’re looking for something that blends outdoor adventure with hotel-like comfort, this place nails it. I left feeling relaxed, refreshed, and already planning my next visit.

3 nights at Whiteside Mountain

A very unique and beautiful spot to pitch your tent. The quiet was deafening, the views amazing. You can watch both the sunrise and sunset from the mountain top. The huge pergola provided space for a large picnic table with benches, a counter with sink and food prep areas plus a stove and propane. Two Adirondack chairs provide front row seats to the surrounding hills and rock formations, with the view extending all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The flush toilet perched on the side of a huge boulder was certainly one, of many elements, that made this spot so unique. Having this mountain top camp spot all to ourselves made this a most memorable experience. One more item, take seriously the 4WD, high clearance vehicle requirement. 1 night at Campo Nopalito

Had a great time. Tent was clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we would have ever needed. We made pizza, tea, and breakfast. The bathrooms were clean. My only complaint would be that the showers were cold. We tried morning and night and there was no hot water. Would come back again. My daughter loved pointing out all of the avocados on the property.

Weekend Trip to Magical Harrison Serenity Ranch

We had an amazing time glamping at Vicki’s. The stars were amazing, the forest calming, and we loved the yoga deck. Vicki was easy to communicate with and very helpful. The land is magical! The beds were super comfy and my young children and older dog really enjoyed themselves. Amazing adventure just over an hour away from home. Warning- we did use our 4 wheel drive to get around certain areas (and we loved it). Not the place to drive a lowriding car. We will most definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Magical Harrison Serenity Ranch

My girlfriend and I had an amazing time at Harrison Serenity Ranch. From the moment we arrived, Vicki welcomed us with so much kindness and made us feel right at home. The property is absolutely beautiful — the views are unbelievable, especially at sunset, and the whole place has a peaceful, secluded vibe that’s perfect for getting away from everything. We also loved meeting the resident pig, who was surprisingly friendly and made the stay even more memorable! The campground was clean, quiet, and thoughtfully set up, and you can tell the hosts genuinely care about the land and the experience they provide. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a relaxing, unique getaway. We’ll definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Santa Ysabel Dark Sky Retreat

Camping on Jeff’s land was the perfect peaceful weekend getaway. Stargazing was exceptional (even w/ a bright moon). I think we caught the end of the Southern Taurid meteor showers—saw my first meteor fireball! In the past, I’ve always camped at campgrounds shared with others so the level of privacy provided by being the only campers on Jeff’s land is absolutely incredible. You take a small set of stairs down to the campsite, which is right off the main dirt road. The campsite is right alongside the road, but it’s at a lower level and never impacted our sense of privacy. I rarely noticed cars going by and when they did, they drove respectfully slow so it wasn’t very noticeable. We felt comfortable letting our dog roam freely and he had a blast exploring the grounds. The porta potty is a short ~1 min walk further down the same dirt road so it’s super close by (also the cleanest porta potty I’ve ever been in which was greatly appreciated). At the campsite itself, there is a table, a few chairs, two hammocks, a putting green (but we didn’t set it up), water tank, gas stove (we brought propane), and a gated pet pen. Note: 3 tents could fit but a large portion of the campsite is slightly sloped. We ended up moving our tent to the flat concrete slab the 2nd day which made for a much better night sleep. I also highly recommend hiking the Eagle Rock Trail that Jeff suggests. Six miles round trip but definitely worth it. We will definitely be coming back!

My wife and I along with our two dogs had a wonderful time at the Nopalito farm. The entire setting from the communal outdoor kitchen to the shower and outdoor seating areas were great. Jacob and his parents worked diligently to make all guests stay most comfortable. We definitely plan to come back.

It was a nice place to stay for a few days to get away and relax. It had everything there for you including a comfy bed. I read, did some painting and did some hiking fairly close. My dog enjoyed herself, too. There is a little car noise that I didn’t expect but it didn’t take away from the good experience. I’ll definitely come back again.

Where to go

The Southern California Desert

Mount Laguna puts you in easy reach of the Southern California Desert, and Anza Borrego Desert State Park is less than an hour away by car. Drive just a little further and you'll hit the Salton Sea, a popular birdwatching spot.

The Southern California Coast

If you want to trade in hiking trails for sandy shores, you need only head down to the Southern California coast, a short drive from Mount Laguna. Here you'll find a mix of big cities and small coastal communities plus miles and miles of sandy beaches, some of which have their own campgrounds.

The Southern California Mountains

There's plenty more to explore in Southern California's Peninsular Range, from the Cleveland National Forest to the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. A little further away, the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument offers miles of hiking trails and great views over the Coachella Valley.

When to go

While Mount Laguna is at its most popular with campers in the hot summer months, it’s not a bad spot for shoulder-season camping, and many of the campgrounds in the surrounding Cleveland National Forest are open year-round. Come in April or October for cool, but sunny, weather sans crowds. Winter snow days in the region draw throngs of San Diegans, who come to the surrounding forest for sledding.
