The facilities were beyond expectations and we had a seamless experience. Steve was super accommodating and was great at communicating—he even gave us a small tour of the property! We had an absolutely fabulous stay at The Hideaway glamping tent. The tent was surprisingly roomy and the beds were very comfortable. It was nice to have a campfire and enjoy looking at the stars and listening to coyotes howling in the distance The whole property is beautiful and well kept. You can tell that Jacob really cares about what he has built. There are lots of comfortable places to gather with friends if you come and stay as a group. The kitchen is fully stocked. And of course we had to try making a fresh pizza in the pizza oven! My friend had car problems so we arrived late but Jacob was so accommodating and even got the firewood ready inside the pizza oven so all we had to do was light it and wait for it to heat up and make our pizza! Thank you for doing that! It was really a nice touch after a stressful situation!

Greeted by the super friendly dogs, very cool (unless you’re not a dog person, then this isn’t the place for you). The dogs are cool, we enjoyed interacting with them and they loved the attention. We even had one of the dogs sleeping outside our van at night guarding us.

Weekend Trip to Magical Harrison Serenity Ranch

Harrison Serenity Ranch is a special place that all San Diegans should experience. It’s so close, but still so far removed from city life- a real treat. Vicki and her team do an incredible job of making the site accessible for everyone, from traditonal tent sites to glamorous tents, to tiny home, there’s something for everyone. The running water is a nice touch and something that makes the whole experience that much nicer. There’s even some unique history to learn about, from when Native Americans roamed the land. It’s cool, it’s quant, and so easy to get to. Definitely check it out

Weekend Trip to Campo Nopalito

We normally go tent camping (a lot of times, at more primitive sites), but decided to give “glamping” a go to celebrate a birthday. Not gonna lie, it was pretty nice having amenities like flushing toilets, an outdoor shower, and an outdoor kitchen (complete with a pizza oven)! The little cabin was cute and cozy and I loved that the wall/roof just opens up to the fresh air - we even slept with it kept open. They are view of the other cabins but it wasn’t that big of a deal and the other camps we encountered were very nice. They have an adorable farm doggo, Gertie, who would make her rounds each morning to say hi and come in for pets and skritches. The farm owner/host, Jacob, was super friendly and helpful and was always responsive to all of our questions/needs. We brought ingredients to make pizza in their pizza oven so Jacob set it up for us, gave us instructions/tips, and just let us try out it for ourselves which was so fun. We messed up the first one but the others turned out great! Just beware that the oven will take about 1.5 hours to heat up so plan for that. We had a great time at Campo Nopalito… It was a peaceful little retreat and we will be back!

Weekend Trip to Sagewinds Farm High Desert camp

Staying at Ellen’s was magical! Her land was so beautiful, she showed us around herself. There were multiple hikes to go on and areas to explore. Stargazing was amazing at night! The mini horses and her friendly dogs were adorable! Overall wonderful experience! Stay at Ellen’s!

Weekend Trip to Magical Harrison Serenity Ranch

I loved camping at Harrison Serenity Ranch. I went on a Saturday night and every camping spot was full, there was around 36. The campers were very friendley. The bathrooms were clean. The sunset was beautiful and waking up and watching the sunrise was superb. Each campsite was outfitted with a shovel and either a bench table or a couple of chairs. My dog, Percy and I, explored a few trails around the mountain. Dogs don't need to be on leash unless if they decide to go and explore on their own. There was many people but for the most part everyone stuck to themselves asides from polite conversation.

Granite Mountain was an incredible escape! The views, sunrise, and sunset were breathtaking. So much so I proposed here. The cabin is easy to access from where you park and has everything you need. Ken was an excellent host, he was very responsive and made sure everything was taken care of. I would highly recommend!

We slept SO WELL at Coyote Moon. It’s so peaceful, dark and quiet - exactly what we needed after a beautiful but disruptive night of sleep in Joshua Tree. Adil is a great Host, creating a strong sense of welcome and safety while supporting your privacy and seclusion. The view from the site is really beautiful and there were great flowers while we there!! As a heads up you will be camping fairly close to the house but the site is lovely, private and peaceful. Where to go

The Southern California Desert

Mount Laguna puts you in easy reach of the Southern California Desert, and Anza Borrego Desert State Park is less than an hour away by car. Drive just a little further and you'll hit the Salton Sea, a popular birdwatching spot.

The Southern California Coast

If you want to trade in hiking trails for sandy shores, you need only head down to the Southern California coast, a short drive from Mount Laguna. Here you'll find a mix of big cities and small coastal communities plus miles and miles of sandy beaches, some of which have their own campgrounds.

The Southern California Mountains

There's plenty more to explore in Southern California's Peninsular Range, from the Cleveland National Forest to the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. A little further away, the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument offers miles of hiking trails and great views over the Coachella Valley.

When to go

While Mount Laguna is at its most popular with campers in the hot summer months, it’s not a bad spot for shoulder-season camping, and many of the campgrounds in the surrounding Cleveland National Forest are open year-round. Come in April or October for cool, but sunny, weather sans crowds. Winter snow days in the region draw throngs of San Diegans, who come to the surrounding forest for sledding.
