Weekend Trip to Heartwood Mendocino

The cabin we stayed in was one of the best “glamping” accommodations we’ve stayed in! The heated blankets are so lovely to crawl into at night. We’ve been to Mendocino numerous times and this was the quietest, most relaxing campground we’ve been to. The other campers were all extremely friendly as well which created a nice environment.

Truly the best campsite ever! To be so close to the ocean was unbelievable. Small site but totally worked for us. So happy the landowners share their wonderful property with all of us. We will definitely be back!! Only disappointment was the portable toilet. It was dirty and needed to be emptied.

Weekend Trip to A California Dream: Camp Hoppy

Great spot! Loved getting into the river and hanging around the property. Some good platforms for sleeping on. One note; the yurt by the river has seen better days and we opted not to sleep in it. Otherwise, a beautiful and tranquil spot in a perfect location.

Weekend Trip to EL EL Cool Ranch

Great stay, well off the beaten path. Eli is a warm and gracious host. We loved the peace and quiet of the dome and still having the creature comforts of home. It was also fun to go forage in the garden, hang out with the chickens, and see the wild ponies on the drive in. A truly dog friendly place- Lulu is a very friendly girl and will love to play with your pup.

We absolutely loved staying at Cathy & Bill’s Hipcamp. Upon welcoming us at the gate, we drove to the pond site, which is surrounded by the most breath-taking views, lots of wildlife and exactly the peace we needed to get away from the city life. The amenities, like an outhouse and fresh water were much appreciated. What made the stay extra special was the homemade Thai Iced tea ice cream, delivered to the campsite, after we set up. We enjoyed it by the fireplace, which already had chairs set up to relax. We couldn’t have wished for a better stay. Thank you very much Cathy and Bill 🙏. We would definitely come back!

Waterfall camp was so much fun! Hike to the waterfall was a fun way to spend the day! The bathrooms and showers were clean and had light at night. Chairs, outdoor blankets, firewood, camping lantern, bbq utensils, etc. I wanted to gatekeep this site but it’s too good to not share! Great location!

What a great site that was fairly private and close to a lot of activities. The new bathrooms were great to have, as I couldn't imagine not having them available! Can't wait to come back!

We had an amazing time here! Every detail was thoughtfully done — from the clean restrooms and hot showers to the horseshoes, cornhole, and reliable WiFi. The sites were beautifully maintained and even had a sink with running water at each one. It’s also an easy drive into Fort Bragg. I can’t recommend this Hipcamp enough — Shay was a fantastic host!

We had a lovely time, especially hanging out in the outdoor kitchen. It's really well equipped for a larger group and the facilities are easy to use. The pond was fun for swimming and the adjacent sauna, tub, and shower worked great. We went on the loop hike to both waterfalls and in June it was really pretty adventurous climbing up the creek, with poison oak everywhere. I would recommend water shoes and long pants, cuz we got scratched up by branches. Lots of mosquitoes at certain times of day, so be prepared, and we got a tick, so do bring tweezers! Wonderful place to gather a group for an outdoor adventure.

We camped at Brenda’s timber cove campground at the waterfall site. It is beautiful and easy enough access to a nice hike with ocean views. Had a wonderful time and look forward to staying again!

Wonderful site surrounded by trees and quiet. The waterfall hike was lovely. Several Redwood Parks close by and of course the Mendo coast! Our host was friendly, the firewood plentiful and having a hot shower the best after a fabulous day hiking. We would love to come back.

Cathy and Bill’s is our favorite camping spot! The outhouse is pristine (with a great view), the firewood is stocked, and the site is clean and clear. Our whole family loves visiting and taking walks around the property, greeting the horses, identifying bird calls and watching the frogs peek up at us in the pond. We even had some curious deer come walking through the site and heard some turkeys gobbling back and forth. Plenty of wildlife and serenity but close enough to town to grab a sandwich and supplies. 10/10 always

We loved camping here! All the amenities were so nice (especially the tree shower) . The beds were comfortable and heated ! The whole camp is very peaceful :)

The loveliest hosted camping experience. Hot showers. Flushable toilets. Dishwashing stations at every camp. And Liz and Shea to greet you and give you tips on the best hikes and gluten free goods :) tip: pack for both heat and cold. The temperatures change on a dime and the weather forecast cannot be trusted. We had the most glorious daytime temps and slept quite cold.

It really doesn’t get any better than this. The facilities alone are 5-star in the tent world. The bathrooms, showers, kitchen, tent pads, smokeless fire pit are just some of the many amenities provided. The hiking trails were some of the best I’ve been too. Especially the waterfall loop. Challenging but worth it. And when you think it doesn’t get any better… then you meet the host Liz and Shay. Warms my heart when you meet good human beings and that what they are. I forgot my speaker at the site and literally Shay had it shipped to me the next day. No charge! Liz gave us loads of recommendations around town… also our dog Spike fell in love with both of them. We will be back soon. Our favorite camp site!

Timber Cove Campground

Located right off coastal US highway 1, Timber Cove campground sits right at the edge of breathtaking, oceanside cliffs. We are situated on roughly two acres of land, with multiple campsites for tent/car camping or RV’s. Each bluff campsite has a picnic table, fire pit and water. Electricity is available to use for an extra fee. The beach and waterfall campsites do not have picnic tables so you might want to bring one if you’ve booked there. We have separate men’s and women’s flush bathrooms, with coin-operated hot showers. We have firewood with kindling for sale on site, payable with cash or Venmo. Please take note of local fire bans, when in effect. Dog friendly, though be advised a leash is recommended as we are close to the road, but they can run leash-free down at the beach. We are located 30 minutes north of the town of Jenner, with Gualala 30 minutes to the north. Gualala has grocery stores, a post office, and some shops. Fort Ross Store is located one mile down the road, just before Timber Cove, and sells basic food necessities, drinks, sandwiches, ice and gas. Internet cell service can be spotty in our area, depending on your provider, so bring your own Starlink services if you have them. We also have access to the beach below, and offer beach camping as well. Take note that the road down to the beach is steep with uneven terrain. The weather can vary quickly here, so be sure to bring multiple layers of clothing and camp gear for various types of weather, and headlamps are useful for getting around the property at night! We hope you’ll come visit our little slice of heaven on the ocean cliffs, gaze at the stars, marvel at the sunsets, watch the harbor seals dozing on their rocks and the many bird species that inhabit our property. The land is on the side of an untouched canon of natural rainforest in Mendocino County, just north of Willits, CA. Trees here can be as tall as 120 feet. We are a private rainforest reserve ask and we can talk your ear off about the forest. The cabin site has a 10-mile view of nature to the south. It is 100% off-grid with 5G Wifi. The Main room has a kitchenette, queen-size bed, Table and chairs with a gas heat stove. The bathroom/hot shower. It is big enough for small kayaks, paddle boards, and rafts too. NEW 2022 Pond Site Addition: We have installed a new fire pit this year!! Upon your arrival, you will find complimentary, match-light firewood set up in the pit for a warm welcome to your site. More firewood is available for purchase throughout your stay. It is illegal in California to travel across county borders with firewood. Firewood often has insect eggs or larvae that can devastate a forest. Please refrain from bringing firewood purchased or harvested from outside Mendocino County. The Best Rest Along the Way: We have created a “self-contained” dry campsite along our main road that is van and truck camping friendly, and can take travel trailers max 16’ length. This site has no amenities and is intended to accommodate people who need a place to catch a rest without sleeping on the roadside, although many do like it as a bear bones campsite. We are conveniently located about 10 min from the 101, for easy in-and-out access. There are lengthy internal roads and trails for unwinding and stretching your legs. Did I mention that town is less than 10 minutes from your campsite? If you forget anything, it is no biggie to run and get what you need. Come check it out!
