At the bottom of the Sierra Nevada, this historical town is close to big outdoor attractions.
The Old West town of Kernville sits on the northern side of Lake Isabella, where the Kern River and the lake meet. It's about an hour northeast of Bakersfield and about an hour west of California’s scenic Highway 395. For RVers driving north from Los Angeles to the three national parks in the western Sierra Nevada—Yosemite National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, and Sequoia National Park—Kernville makes a nice stopping point en route. Even if you're not going to the parks, you can discover the majesty of the Sequoia trees, as well as hiking trails and mountain views, in Sequoia National Forest. For water enthusiasts, go fishing on the lake or white-water rafting on the Kern River—one of town's biggest tourist activities. RV parks and resorts can be found around the lakeshore, most with hookups and amenities like picnic tables. Kernville has hot, dry summers and mild Winters.
