Weekend Trip to The Olive Farm

Olive Farm Camp was a perfect last minute getaway. Only a 40 minute drive from our home in Oakland, but secluded and peaceful enough to feel like we got off the grid for a night. The grounds are lovely and the way the land is situated, you can’t see any roads or buildings, so it feels like you’re isolated there. We parked our truck under a beautiful oak tree, which gave us plenty of shade. We also brought our dog, who loved hunting ground squirrels (there are lots on the property) and swimming in the pond.

Spent a quiet night here before a trail race in Santa Cruz. Serene setting. Grateful for the coffee and half and half in the adorable outdoor kitchen to help me wake up in the morning!

2 nights at Kings Mountain Camp w/ ocean views

This place is amazing!!! We stayed in the apartment and had an awesome view of the ocean although it’s mostly just clouds but it’s beautiful! Especially during sunset. The whole apartment was super clean and nice, and had an amazing kitchen with all of the essentials for cooking. She also gave us 4 eggs from the chickens on the farms, as well as a fire starting kit to make a bonfire right outside of the apartment. The outdoor area is super nice with a hot tub, amazing view, seating area and fire pit. Would definitely recommend this place!!!! Sana was also super helpful and responsive.

2 nights at Happy Valley Haven

Naomi's Haven was an amazing experience. We had everything we needed set in a beautiful wooded area. All the plants and animals were busy. The kitchen was wonderful and bedroom large enough. You could easily sleep in because it is so quiet. It is not far from downtown Santa Cruz but far enough away you don't hear it. I am so glad we picked the location to stay. We had a nice talk with Naomi on the last day.

This is such a spectacular gem! The view was incredible, the hosts were warm and friendly, and the whole tent setup was well thought-out and comfortable. Everything was clean, from the bathrooms to the sundeck, and the mattress was top-notch. We will definitely be back.

I had a great time staying at Naomi's propert! Prior to my stay, she was very helpful with her communication and even gave local recommendations. The property itself was very charming, clean, and serene. I honestly felt myself enter a bit of a meditative state at the start of my stay due to the calming ambiance haha. This isn't a critique, but the host's house was closer to the property than I expected although you can see that in the pictures if you analyze them enough. It wasn't an issue though as the property still felt very private. I would definitely stay again if I register the area!

We absolutely adored our stay at Kings Mountain Fancy Camp. The property is a true oasis including incredible views/scenery and offers complete serenity. The tent itself is equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay and every single little detail has been considered to make this a true luxury glamping experience. The hosts, William & Sana, welcomed us like family and we hope to return again soon!

3 nights at The Olive Farm

There’s a ton of great things to name about the Olive Farm camp. What I and my family loved most was that you have a lot of land to yourself and it is quiet most of the time; we did hear planes overhead, voices from nearby houses, and the occasional staff that we saw, but other than that it was very nice. I will say that this spot is not for those who want hardcore wilderness, as you will not be as immersed into the wilderness as you would be deeper into the woods. We did see deer (when it was quiet) and lots of hawks and vultures. There was a lot of trash left by prior campers that I picked up, and was not particularly happy to see that. Not the owners fault, but it is something to note. As well as the fact that the photos listed for Olive Farm Camp are a bit dated and some of the amenities are not the same as it is now as of June 2025. There was a missing flipper for the kayak oar and the wood for the boat looked worse for wear. The handle bars for the dock were also loose. However, I still enjoyed thoroughly the massive pond as it was beautiful to walk to in the mornings and see at night. All to yourself. The bathrooms are two porta-potties (there being two is very nice) and they were very very clean and smelled great when we found them. No matter what time of year you go, bring plenty of warm clothes and blankets for the night. You will get cold, especially if there is wind. Overall, this is a great spot for families and large groups especially.

Weekend Trip to Windsor Family Farm

The cabin was cute and cozy, a perfect place for a weekend escape. The homemade hot breakfast (an add on to the booking) was ideal to fuel us on the start of our day. Our toddler loved the French toast and the frittata was yummy. Our son adjusted real quickly to farm life and loved looking at the animals, feeding the sheep and exploring the variety of kid's outdoor toys (multiple playground structures as well as sand pits). He definitely got some imaginative play and comfortable around the many free roaming roosters and two dogs, Duke (very chill like a cool old man minding his own) and Poppy, a sweet and young high energy rescue more interested in chasing the animals than your kids. On the farm there are chicken, roosters, goats, sheep, alpacas, tortoises and rabbits. Kim is a welcoming, laidback, nonchalant host and her daughters cameos were friendly. The farm is a farm with all the smells and dust but the cabins are a intsy bit removed providing a nice combination of relaxing environment for parents and amusement for kids. The shared bathroom is small but practical with cute quirky decoration and it was clean. Small stairs are availble for the kids to wash their hands. The fridge and microwave are outside the house in an outdoor communal space but easy to access. Location is close to a city with many restaurants, so no worries for lunch and dinner choices. Gilroy Gardens is also a short drive away. A place we genuinely enjoyed and plan to return in the future.

The land was very beautiful, with many medicine plants growing. The directions given by Naomi made the land easy to reach. There was no reception on the land, but the wifi connection was strong enough. Over all, the place had a very peaceful and safe energy. The cabin was colorfully decorated, and became warm and cozy on the cold nights. The new kitchen installation was beautiful and very well equipped! Naomi was welcoming, and Johnny taught my girlfriend about alpacas, how to feed them, and how to boop their nose. The location was perfect for escaping to nature, but not far enough from the city to feel isolated. It was a very special and romantic experience!

Great location. Bathroom access nice. 12 minute walk down the road to great hiking park. Keep your food guarded so any dogs around don’t get a snack. With advanced planning I would sign up for a wine tasting.

We love our stay and the host was friendly. To reach this tent it was bit of walk but just treat is like short hike. the tent was clean and cozy. it was so private as it is not closed to other tent. if you are lucky you can see the ocean (when it is no foggy) and sunset was beautiful. Will definitely visit again.

Weekend Trip to Felton Open Space Camp Sites

We really enjoyed camping on John’s site. We had a little glitch in the beginning, but John made sure to straighten things out and came by several times to make sure we were happy. The site is beautiful and just a hop, skip and a jump from great hiking. Also, very close to downtown Felton, which was convenient . The other campers were extremely considerate, and after dark, it was absolutely quiet. To be honest, this is a better campsite for people with self sustaining camping vehicles rather than tent camping. If you tent camp be sure to bring a table for food prep/eating and lots of water. The bathroom provided was very clean and well stocked, but quite a distance from where we camped. .That said, I will take a clean plumbed bathroom, a distance away over a stinky porta potty nearby any day of the week. I definitely want to come back.

We are committed to provide good beds and beddings because we know how important good sleep is (even when you camp!) so we just spent time, money and energy to replace all of our camping mattresses with memory foam mattresses!!! We had people swear that this is the best bed they ever slept in. The campground is located in a serene oak grove area of the property. Its a peaceful getaway with an abundance of bird varieties and occasional wild turkeys passing through. Take a stroll around our 5-acre property and catch a breathtaking sunset from the hillside. We're only 11 minutes away from Mount Madonna State Park and just 10 minutes from a local healthy grocery store and yoga studio. The Secret Gardens by the Bay

It is located about 2 minutes drive from the beach and the Monterey bay, about 12 miles away South of Santa Cruz. The beaches here are more peaceful and spread out as long as your eyes can see. We are 33 miles away from Monterey aquarium but you almost don't have to go anywhere when you are here. There are many things to do such as hiking at Land of Medicine Buddha or Forrest of Nisene Mark, Stroll around at Capitola Village, Have coffee and do awesome thrift shopping in downtown Aptos or in Soquel, Get some free foods from Free Food church on Wednesday evening (Yes, locally grown organic produce!), have a picnic on the cliff to watch the sunset, this town kind of remind you what's like to be in town without big boxes and franchise stores everywhere, life as its finest. This campground is also a great setting for your celebrations with two stages, a celebration area, a stone fired pizza oven and a sound systems (These are extras). We also have two sites for Private Group Camping for RV and Tent camping if you want to have a separate area away from anyone else. They can accommodate at least 15 people. Please check out those sites if you plan to come in a group. If you bring your dogs or children we have a trail for you to stroll around the property in a natural setting. Slide Ranch Campsites

Slide Ranch is a nonprofit organization established in 1970, becoming one of the first Park Partners in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The tent-only campsite area is 1/4 mile hike (about 10 minutes, mostly-flat) from the parking lot and is not accessible by vehicle. Campers must park in the visitor parking lot and hike into the campsite area. We provide a limited number of wheelbarrows to help transport your personal items to the area. Campers are not permitted to sleep in their cars, vans, or campers in the parking lot. Minors aged 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult; no drop offs or pick ups permitted. No pets allowed; service animals are permitted. We do not have showering facilities or flush toilets. A composting toilet is at the campsite and Porta-potties are available around the property. Soap is provided for hand washing. Water in all Slide Ranch taps is potable for refilling water bottles/jugs. There is no running water at the campsite but there will be a limited number containers of water for use in hand washing, dish washing, and limited for drinking. Slide Ranch does not have any concessions on site. Please plan to bring any snacks or picnic items you’d like to enjoy while enjoying the ranch. Per GGNRA regulations, campfires and open flames of any kind are not allowed outdoors at the campsite. Portable camp stoves and BBQs are strictly prohibited. Cooking is only allowed on the provided propane stove located inside the Dome. Please bring whatever items you need to prepare and enjoy your meals. Slide Ranch is located on the Marin coast, on land that has a rich history in connecting people to food. The Coast Miwok once fished and foraged for food at this site, and in the late 19th century Portuguese dairy farmers purchased the land and produced milk and butter for residents of San Francisco. In 1969, 134 acres of this fertile coastline were rescued from commercial development and purchased by the Nature Conservancy. Slide Ranch offers camping to fund summer camp scholarships and other programs throughout the year.

Please be aware this is camping in nature, along with squirrels, spiders, falling leaves, etc. and nature is not always for everyone. There is a 45ft. ladder to climb to get into the treehouse. All of our sites are hike in sites. It's about a 1/4 mile hike on a small foot path. We have a wagon available for guests to use and we are happy to help you carry your things. We host a communal fire pit in the evenings, weather permitting, for all guests to enjoy, we do not allow open fires on the property. Cal Fire has requested that all campers get a permit, even to operate a gas stove. Our swimming pond is about a 3/4 mile hike through brush from the restaurant but is a great way to beat the heat during the day! Campsites have a picnic table. Water from our well is always available outside of the restaurant and bathrooms with running water are available during business hours. There is a fire trail along one of our ridge lines that offers stunning views of the San Antonio Valley as well as our abundant wildlife. We sometimes host speakers and educational workshops and guests are always welcome to participate in events.
