The Maple Creek Ranch and Tree Farm has been family owned and operated since 1934. The patriarch of the family, whose family had moved here from Denmark, had a great love of the forest and trains. The property was one of the first certified tree farms in California with the goal of nurturing a healthy forest. In the 1960’s, a mile of railroad tracks was laid and the whistle of a small, steam engine train could be heard throughout the community. Local residents and kids were treated to free train rides and special events for many years.
There is a natural spring with a small creek that supplies the ponds with fresh water year around. There is also a small canyon on the property with a larger stream called Mud Creek. The land is rich in Indian history and there a artifacts and other signs on the Indians presence.
The Cohasset area is relatively unknown. 15 miles from our property is Deer Creek and the Lasson National Forest is about a 2 hour drive north.
While staying with us you can pitch your tent on our private 500 acres. We have 2 primitive camping spots on our property. Each spot has a picnic table and
fire pit. There is a flush toilet shared for both camp sites. * During freezing weather the toilets may be closed so they don’t freeze! Please check before booking
*The spots are spread out to ensure privacy. Our property is surrounded by the forest and is loaded with deer, squirrels, turkeys and other forest animals. We have numerous walking trails, a fresh water pond for fishing and swimming. Please notify us if you have an RV.
Site 1 is best for RV's. Site 2 can accommodate smaller RV's.

Camp cooking has never been easier, as the community kitchen is well equipped with 2 full-sized refrigerators, gas stove/oven, pots and pans, dishware, silverware, triple sink, and two outdoor barbeques. The cooks will especially appreciate our unique outdoor “dishwashing station” for each individual (even kids!) to efficiently wash their own dishes instead of using throw-away plastic for each meal. Our bathhouse has two private toilets, two private showers with hot water and a double sink. Bring your own towels and toiletries.

Camp Watanda is a retired girls summer camp. We have 10 acres of wooded property, with the 4 sleeping cabins close to the waterfront lots of space for pitching tents/dispersed camping. 🚂 Trains are part of being in the mountains. You’ll get to hear them during the day (and night). Their whistle can be loud, most people get used to it quickly.

This extraordinary 200 acres is magical and host a wildness which feels peaceful and secure. It is also the home of the developing Wisdom Retreat Center eco-preserve noted for quality of beauty and silence. Many Indian arrow heads have been found here indicating former residences of indigenous tribes. There are many open meadows and old growth forest to hike and explore.
To ensure our cabins remain available for families and groups planning their retreats well in advance, we have updated our cancellation policy to Super Strict. This helps us protect these high-demand dates during our peak season. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain the preserve!

The campground has new stewards, but all of the original goodness. We've also been working hard to add amenities and finishing touches that we think you'll enjoy!

🐝 the Wasps and Hornets are bad this year in the Sierras. We have traps out, but be cautious and aware!
🔥 For the foreseeable future of 2024, there is a burn ban. No campfires or charcoal grills. The glampsites have propane fire pits with 1 tank provided. Basic campsites can have them provided for a small fee.
🚂 Trains are part of being in the mountains. You’ll get to hear them during the day (and night). Their whistle can be loud, most people get used to it quickly.

Nestled in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Foothills. Make Hilltops Acres the hub for your Nevada County adventure! There are so many things to do and places to explore, all within 30 minutes of our camp. Take a dip in the South Yuba River, visit Empire Mine State Historic Park, check out one of the many wineries, or stroll along historic downtown Grass Valley and Nevada City.
A great place to relax, play fun outdoor games, take in the breathtaking sunrise/sunset views, and simply enjoy our beautiful surroundings. Song birds and wildlife will narrate your stay on our 10+ acre property.
Time takes on a different meaning out here. You’ll feel yourself relax into a slower pace-into the here and now. If you sit still, you can observe the wild flock of quail, the occasional pheasant, wild turkeys, and deer passing through on their daily routes.
You can also check out our growing little farm. We have chickens, turkeys, goats, pigs and a mini horse.
Unwind with a day at the river or lake, take a road or mountain bike ride, or a hike on one of the many local trails. You’ll be staying just 25 minutes away from the pristine South Yuba River.
Wanna shop or check out a part of the Gold Rush history? The historic downtown Grass Valley and Nevada City are just 15 minutes away as well. There is so much local history and many cultural activities to enjoy in our area, boasting a variety of mom and pop shops, delicious eateries, and eclectic "watering holes" featuring craft brews, local wines and tasty cocktails. Live music in many locations adds an upbeat and lively ambiance.

We had a wonderful stay at Tanya’s place. It’s clear she’s thought of everything you might need for a relaxing getaway, particularly with kids or pet friend. The shallow, slow-moving water, fun kayaks, well-equipped kitchen, and the trampoline/play area were all highlights. The bed was comfortable and all the equipment felt top quality.
While it feels very private in that you don’t really see anyone, the main house is visible and nearby, so it has more of a “beautiful backyard retreat” feel than being fully secluded. That said, the space itself, especially the beach area still feels like a special little escape. We’d absolutely love to come back.

Wonderful secluded property, self check in was seamless and we didn’t see or hear another person on the private 150 acres for the entirety of our stay. The tiny home was clean and well organized, the instant hot water heater worked great for our outdoor shower and tub. This was definitely my two dogs favorite trip as they were free to roam and enjoy the property unleashed. Joe had a tent set up outside of the cabin which the kids enjoyed sleeping in. The endless supply of conveniently placed fire wood for the provided smokeless fire pit was perfect for the cold nights along with the heater/ac in the cabin. Lots of creek access which you can hear well from the cabin. Grill was clean and had every you would need to cook inside the cabin or at the grill. Multiple restrooms was also a plus. Swimming holes were fun and safe for the dogs
And kids. AT&T cell service was good enough to communicate with the outside world if needed. Bed and pillows were comfy and clean. The lighting at night was perfect. Got a good nap in on the hammock after a long day at the creek. Lots of turkeys. Trout spotted in creek. Easy drive down. My 14yo son drove the car for the first time around the property a bit. Shot some cans with pellet guns.The add ons are well worth it btw. We can’t wait to go back, absolutely beautiful and a place where time slows down and you can enjoy your family & nature without distractions or other people near by. Thank you Joe, can’t wait to come back.

I found the location and land to be beautiful and while I was there it was very private as no one else was around. The Geronimo cabin was spacious and Adam was kind enough to offer a flashlight since I forgot mine.

My family loved spending the weekend here with the 2 dogs! So relaxing and peaceful, minus the dusk mosquitoes 🥲 it was so nice of Kristin to provide us with their well water and we had easy access to get more firewood when we needed it. The bathroom is the cleanest “outhouse” we have ever experienced - blessed! 😂 Kristin’s family is incredibly welcoming and we’re thankful we got to stay here. Internet also worked well and it’s a short, nice walk to the lovely pond. We took the little paddle boat out during the golden hour when the sky is changing colors and it was breathtaking. Highly recommend this spot!

Weekend Trip to Pleasant Valley Creekside Ranch LLC
You could show up just about empty handed and still have almost everything you need! The tent set up was extremely clean, and stocked with what you need. Lots of seating options to choose from. I also really appreciated that there is a propane fire pit available for use that was surrounded by a bug net - I didn’t use it on this trip but I booked my next trip knowing my bug adverse friend will really appreciate this spot to spend the evening!
And then of course there’s the beauty of the nature. The creek, which you can paddle up to a little rock damn with flowing water. It’s very peaceful.

Second time we have been here. Amazing property, plenty of dirt roads and light off roading if interested. Great place for kids to disconnect. The lack of wifi is a pro for my family rather than a con. The kids went to go play on their bikes and explore. The actual cabin is well outfitted with a fridge, stove and three nice bedrooms. There is a main house on the property with wifi if you absolutely need it. We plan on coming back again

This was a fun spot and the kids loved all the activities, including kayaking and the trampoline! All gear was new and high end, you can tell Tanya is caring a lot about her spot. The creek was great, very slow in front of the site so there was no dangers for my kids (13 and 7 yo) to play in the water. The tents were super cute and cosy, and the fact we had the whole site to ourselves was also a great bonus!

Stunning views and had everything that we needed and more.
-Very private (literally no one else there) which is hard to find nowadays. This is especially nice when you have dogs!
-There’s multiple access points to the creak close by the tiny home but to get to the good spot it’s a bit of a walk (which is totally worth it).
Overall, an amazing stay and we will be back!!

10/10 recommend! Mike was very kind and understanding of our late arrival. We were the only campers there so we got the pick of the land. We chose a spot where we could listen to the creek all day and night, beautiful and peaceful. Plan to bring a portable toilet and fire pit. However, there are plenty of rocks around to build a fire pit as well. Mike even brought us down some fire wood!

Great experience at Wisdom Reserve with our family! Adam was great in answering all of our questions prior to arriving. The Cabin was nicely equipped with everything we needed. This was the most fun quick getaway for our families! Exactly as described, beautifully maintained property, incredible hosts. High end blankets and towels, very clean dry flush toilet, and so many cozy seating options. My kids loved the welcome shed, and there were too many thoughtful personal touches to mention.
The location is incredible. we explored grass Valley and Nevada city, both had a great selection of well appointed shops and restaurants and were less than a 15 minute drive from the property. We can’t wait to come back in the summer!
