Our trailer and cave shower entrance are on the smaller size and may not be comfortable for larger bodied individuals.

This little farm is being brought back to life! Once part of an 160 acre avocado farm now it is a 15 acre little slice of heaven purchased in 2019. Previously the farm had been let go and now our duty is to get it back in shape. We are making steady progress and fall in love with the land more everyday. Currently we are also planting about an acre of lavender which should be a beautiful backdrop come 2024. Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Splitrock’s Hilltop Hideaway. We had the whole area to ourselves and stayed on the upper level which gave way to spectacular views of the entire valley. We had an unexpected treat as a whole tribe of goats came up and hung out with us for a while and one of their sweet dogs. Looking forward to going back in the summer and would highly recommend.

The facilities are really well kept, and the campsites are so far away from each other that it feels you are alone... lots of interesting hiking and let's not forget the stars of this trip, baby goats! Oh my they were adorable. Everyone is very friendly therevas well. 10/10 super recommended.

We stayed two nights at Tabernacle and loved it! Very private, beautiful views, cool site, huge rocks and places to explore. Loved the goats that came through our site, though they tried to climb on our table as we were eating breakfast. The farm itself is fun and peaceful, we also did the baby goats experience and the kids loved it!

If youre looking for a great camping deal near SD, this is only an hour away drive. Horizon is one of the best spots! We loved the views, especially on flatrock during sun set. The whole farm is huge and beautiful. Can’t miss the observation view deck and take a picture on the rock (front of deck). The goats were friendly, except the white big one lol it was SUPER friendly it follows you when you start petting him. Toilet and showers are spot on clean. Only draw back I can think of is the distance from our spot to the toilet and potable water. It was at least 3-5 minutes walk, so bring your own portable toilet for over nighters. We’ll be back soon!

This is a very fun campsite! Lots and lots of space and the platform is great flat surface for a tent and the easy turf makes it extra nice. There’s also a second flat space included in the site for a second tent setup if you want one. There are loads of goats up on the higher levels so you’ll see them if you walk or drive through the camp.
A few things to keep in mind; for the Jurassic site, the bathroom is quite a ways from your site. Fine to hike to or drive to during the day, but if you get up in the middle of the night to go, it may be an issue. Also as great as it was to have a fire pit nestled in to the rocks, the rocks are home to some critters 😅 which we discovered once it got dark and the nocturnal animals start getting active. Totally comes with the territory of camping, but just be aware.
All in all a great place; eager to check out some of the other sites. It’s a beautiful little community they’ve got there. Very cool.

We really enjoyed camping at the Hilltop Hideout spot - the views were beautiful and the site feels very private. There’s a water spigot right at the site, along with a firepit, table, chairs, and plenty of space for a larger group (we were just two people and a dog). My wife loved playing with the baby goats, and our dog had a great time checking out all the farm animals. The owner’s dogs were friendly and chill - they stopped by once to say hello. The camp store was also pretty convenient.
We did run into a small hiccup at arrival, as another camper was already set up at our site, which meant waiting while things got sorted out and setting up in the dark. The owner came quickly and resolved it, but it was a bit of a scramble for everyone involved. We also had some early-morning 6am noise from kids hanging around our campsite; not the owner’s fault, but clearer communication of quiet hours might help future guests. Overall though, we had a great stay and would recommend it.

I would absolutely recommend for anyone even remotely considering taking a trip here to do it. I had such a peaceful night. You have to go play with the goats. The hilltop hideout had an amazing view and it felt so isolated and quiet. The dogs and cats were so sweet too. Definitely coming back at some point.

My dog, husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Granite Gulch!! What a unique campground. Views were beautiful. Super private fire pit. Goats were very quiet at night too. Can’t wait to come back and check out the other spaces on Benjamins land as well. Also our air mattress pump died and the host was super quick to respond in providing options for renting bedding if we’d like. Highly recommend for a quick getaway even for a night it’s so worth it!

Absolutely stunning scenery — waking up to the sunrise and layered hills was unforgettable. Directions and mapping were very clear and well thought out, which made arrival stress-free. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, even helping us select firewood, which was a really thoughtful touch.
That said, the temperature drops significantly at night and the wind can be strong, so proper preparation is important. One of the highlights was meeting the two large white farm dogs — they were gentle, friendly, and felt like the best natural guides around the property.
Overall, a peaceful and memorable stay. Would love to come back and experience this place in a different season.

We’ve stayed at Split Rock three times now, and each visit has been just as special as the first. Our first stay was at the Hilltop campsite, and our last two visits were at Granite Tabernacle, which has easily become our favorite spot on the property.
Split Rock is hands down our favorite local or semi-local campsite. The moment you arrive, it feels like a world of its own. The landscaping is beautiful, the massive boulders are stunning, and the entire place has a peaceful, almost untouched feel that’s hard to find elsewhere.
We usually visit during the weekdays, which makes it incredibly quiet and serene. Over the years, we’ve run into a herd of goats, a llama, and one of the highlights of every stay, Holly and Molly. They’re Great Pyrenees protector dogs, and they are the sweetest companions. This trip we only saw one of them, but she greeted us as soon as we arrived, hung out with us through part of the evening, and came back in the morning like a gentle check-in. Calm, loving, and quietly watchful, she added so much to the experience.
Granite Tabernacle is truly an absolute gem. Beautifully placed within the landscape and incredibly peaceful, it’s easily our favorite campsite at Split Rock.
We absolutely love this place and will definitely be back. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique, peaceful, and unforgettable camping experience. 🌲✨
