Feel free to use our laundry facilities, communal picnic basket, and complimentary condiments, seasonings, sauces, etc found in the door of the fridge. Attached to the lounge is our air conditioned ecobathroom with *hot* shower, bio toilet, and complimentary toiletries if you forget anything.
A few notes on the property:
Most people have never used an EcoToilet and don’t realize it takes some work. If you have children, you will very likely have to do this part for them.
We keep the lounge area as clean as possible but at the end of the day it is an outdoor kitchen! Kitchenwares will have a layer of dust even if cleaned the day prior, so please give everything a rinse before you using!
You may read about mosquitoes in some of our past reviews, but I am happy to share that we now have a monthly mosquito service in place that has mitigated that issue :)

It serves as our primary residence and also residence for seasonal workers&traveling artists when they come here. Every year we have the opportunity to employ about a dozen people to work with us during the tourist season, from March-October. Welcome to CAMP 222, a private campground nestled on approximately 1 acre of land adjacent to Lewis Smith Lake in Cullman, AL.
Experience the tranquility of lake life as you enjoy boating adventures accessed via our private boat ramp. Relax and bask in the sun on our floating sun deck, or unwind in the shade with a nap in one of our hammocks. As night falls, gather around our fire pit to share stories without the distractions of nearby campers.
Our campground offers camper hook-ups for water and electricity, although sewer facilities are not available from April - November a portable toilet is on site. During the months of December - March, guests must either have a camper with a restroom or bring their own camp toilets.
Conveniently situated just off Cullman County Road 222, our campsite is within a quarter mile of two gas stations, two independently owned stores offering short-order food options, and a Dollar General. While there may be some road noise from County Road 222, especially during daytime hours, it typically tapers off in the evening and nighttime.
Enjoy stunning views of the 4th of July fireworks from Smith Lake Park, as our property provides a prime vantage point.
Lewis Smith Lake, managed by Alabama Power, spans 21,000 acres and is the deepest lake in Alabama at 264 ft. The water level varies throughout the year, usually reaching full-pool from April to July before gradually decreasing for the autumn and winter seasons. Please note the rocky shore near the sun deck, which is why jumping or diving from the sun deck is prohibited.
The nearby City of Cullman, located approximately 10 miles away, offers abundant shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Additionally, the city hosts numerous festivals throughout the year, including the Strawberry Festival in April, Octoberfest in October, and Christkindlmarkt in November & December.

This was a beautiful and tranquil spot. Lush green and waterfront area, gracious hosts and the cabin was perfect to relax and take a break from ‘busy life’. Dark Hollow is an amazing place! The sites are well maintained and several have phenomenal views. There is plenty of space between sites and plenty of privacy. I stayed in The Ledge site and it was perfect for me. While it rained each day during my stay, it cleared enough fo me to check out the trail they have on property. It is a fairly rugged trail of switchbacks down into the bottom and it continues across the creek and up the opposite hillside. All in all, despite the rain this was an excellent trip! I have to say that this is one of, if not the best camp here. I highly recommend checking out Dark Hollow!

Great place to stay. Danny gave me a tour of the campground when we arrived and made a few suggestions on things to do. The campground was clean and the amenities all worked very well. The hiking trails were steep but clear and easy to follow. The creek itself was beautiful and the views were great. It was less than 3 feet deep in most of the pools and had multiple small waterfalls along it. Highly recommended

Host was speedy with communication, check in was easy and informative (gentleman was so pleasant and helpful!) . Our dog had a safe, enclosed HUGE area to roam. What a wonderful place to relax and unwind! The hosts are thoughtful, helpful, and friendly. The location is beautiful, and the facilities provided near the river RV sites are excellent. We needed a quiet getaway away from the crowds and we got our head in the dark and starry skies while our feet soaked in the cool current of the Blackwater River. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and stay there a while.

I loved tent camping on the property! We had the whole place to ourselves one night. The other two nights other people were there but the property is so large you still feel like you’re by yourself. It was beautiful and peaceful. The instructions were clear and helpful. I didn’t have any issues or concerns the entire time we stayed. I will def. camp here again.

The whole site was tidy, well maintained and we loved that it was fully (except for the water side) fenced in so our dog could safely run around.
