The island is a mosaic of varied habitats, including extensive wetlands, freshwater lakes, mangroves, coral reefs, seagrass meadows, wallum heathlands, sclerophyll forests, and surf beaches. A massive freshwater aquifer sits beneath the island’s permeable sands. This unique hydrological feature sustains rare acidic, low-nutrient lakes, such as the perched Brown Lake and the water-table window Blue Lake, as well as spring-fed swamps, which are crucial habitats for specialized and sometimes endemic species.
We are situated at the meeting point of temperate and tropical waters, with the surrounding Sea Country hosting exceptional marine biodiversity. This is home to our people, and our family connection stretches back into deep time.

Stonesthrow is a 106 acre rural property in the peaceful Illinbah Valley. Nestled between Beechmont and Canungra, we are about an hour (a stones throw) from the Gold Coast or Brisbane. Over time, the property has been used to farm goats, train racing camels and spell racehorses and is now a family hobby farm. We currently have three dogs, cows, horses, goats and some friendly donkeys who love to meet new people for some pats and a carrot!
The Stonesthrow Bush Camping sites are close to the beautiful shallow creek that meanders its way through the property. These sites have access to facilities - toilets, a powered shed, kettle, fridge and a sink. Some sites offer 2WD access yet still facilitate the experience of camping in the bush. THESE ARE THE ONLY SITES THAT CARAVANS CAN ACCESS.
The Stonesthrow Elevated sites are located higher up, with stunning views of the valley. These sites are only accessible by capable 4WD and require you to bring your own sealed, chemical camping toilet and ensuite tent which we sight on arrival before allowing guests access to the track. Check-in must be during daylight hours to enable safe access. Off-road camper trailers can access these sites.
Friendly dogs are welcome and must be kept on a lead when in close proximity to the cottage and other campers. Please note, the availability of certain sites is weather-dependent.
We are not a 4WD adventure park. Vehicles must be left at your campsite and NOT used to explore the property. Exploration of the property is welcome by foot or bicycle: 1.2 km from bottom to top.
Due to insurance considerations, no 'day visitors' are allowed unless they have an approved Hipcamp booking.
We are a Leave No Trace campground - ensure what you bring in, leaves with you.
All camp fires must be fully extinguished with water prior to departure.

From many parts of the farm you have beautiful views encompassing Maleny, Glasshouse Mountains, Bribie Island, Moreton Island, Stradbroke Island, Redcliffe, and Brisbane Port Site.
We have a beautiful deepwater lake that's perfect for swimming and canoeing. The property is traversed by several rainforested creeks and ravines, which are perfect for adventure hiking and rock climbing.
We can also take you horse riding around the farm for a couple of hours or to the local winery if you prefer a longer ride. We cater for all levels of riding.
We have many panoramic campsites for you to choose from. These are suited to anyone with the swag, tent, camper, caravan, or motorhome. You must be self-sufficient, with your own toilet, and we kindly ask you take all waste when you go.
For those who prefer the comforts of home we have a bunkhouse which sleeps 10 and has electricity, water, flush toilet, shower, stove, microwave and TV.
Linen is not supplied.
If you are driving 2wd, or 4wd towing a caravan or a big trailer and GPS takes you through Mountain View Rd - do not go that way - go through Dayboro Rd.
For those without transport Dakabin train station is 25 min from the farm. Pick up and drop off to the station can be arranged. There is a wide variety of shops and restaurants less than 10 min away.

How to get to us? We have two ways in .
Option 1:
Via Flagstone onto Bushman Drive – then into Wyatt road follow to the end and turn right onto undullah road follow for 5 ks .
we approximately 14 km from the Flagstone Shopping Centre.
Please note: 10 km of this route is gravel road. 4x4 vehicle access is recommended.
Option 2:
From the Centenary Freeway roundabout, at ripley head 21 km along Ripley Road, which continues and changes name to Undullah Road.
This route is 4x4 access is recommended with some narrow bends – please drive to conditions. We do have 2 wheel drives make the journey !

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is 5min away if you jump on at Borallon Station Rd. Some cattle tracks for the kids to ride along in the paddock also.
-Wivenhoe, Somerset Dam in the area for water sports
-Wildlife watching, this paddock sustains a large variety of native animals, if you’ve got a keen eye
-Bottle Tree pub is just down the road, - bit more than walking distance tho :)

The Hill Top - South Ripley Farm is located in the hill of the Ripley Valley, QLD. The farm has horses, goats and cattle. The property is 10 minutes from Springfield and Yamanto shopping Centre but set back into the mountain. There is multiple location around the front 100 acres which allow for peace and quite camping. The Back 200 acres has multiple walking tracks that boast an impressive views, overlooking as far all the Brisbane and Ipswich, plus quite nature of unseen landscape unable to be seen from normal public locations.

Welcome to our 9 acre Hobby Farm Stay. The Farm Stay experience is what we are all about, we welcome you to experience the joys of farm life, meet the horses and join in at feeding times and egg collecting. Or, if you just want to relax under the mango trees, we totally get that too :) Our geese and ducks and chickens are hand reared so they are not aggressive at all 😃
We have two Sausage dogs, Ockie and Arlo, they love to visit campers. If you aren't doggy people perhaps this isn't the campsite for you. Please keep your food and rubbish up high so the doggos and other critters don't help themselves
Please keep in mind that this Hipcamp is a 'Farm Stay', on a working property which is also our big back yard. Your privacy is assured, however, if you're looking for total seclusion, this may not be the Hipcamp property for you.
A grassy flat tent site is tucked away shaded by trees. Powered Caravan site is also grassy and flat with a large area for kids to play. If you choose to set up in the open away from the trees the house will be in sight (45m away), but we live a quiet life and respect your privacy. The property is on the Brisbane River, the site offers river glimpses however there is no river access.
Suitable for tents, campers trailers, caravans and RV's. We are close to the CBD so the site is a great option for a 'shake down' for your new caravan or camper trailer. If you're new to camping this is a great place to ease into a lifestyle that offers so many opportunities further afield.
You won't have to share the campsite with other campers, you will have the spot all to yourselves.
Supermarket, bottle shop, takeaways, cafe and pharmacy less that 4 km away.
Campfires are permitted. Firewood is available as an 'extra' for $20, please go to 'extras' to add to your booking alterantively purchase on arrival.
Power (10amp) and drinkable water is available close to campsite. You must bring your own camping toilet. Daily water usage is included, however long range water tank fill ups incur a one off extra fee of $10, please include this in your booking under extras.
No dogs please, Ockie and Arlo are the masters of their domain and don't like doggy interlopers.
NB: The site is not suitable for parties or large group gatherings.

My favourite camping spot to date. My son (3.5y.o) had an absolute blast following the animals (and host) around. Ammenities are great, and if you’re up early you’ll see the hot air balloons go over. As a single parent, I felt safe letting my boy free range. Could not speak more highly of both the farm stay experience, and Guy + his family as warm and hospitable hosts.

We had such a wonderful experience here and absolutely loved our stay. The place was beautiful, peaceful, and so well maintained. Everything felt welcoming and comfortable, and you can really feel the care and effort that goes into making this place special.
The atmosphere was warm and relaxing, making it the perfect place to enjoy nature and create great memories. The hosts were incredibly kind and friendly, which made our experience even better.

Lovely grassy site with beautiful trees. It unfortunately rained during our stay however we learnt there is excellent drainage/the water ran off really well! Good camp site rain or shine!!

We had an amazing stay at Range Top Farm hosted by Viola. From the moment we arrived, she was incredibly welcoming and went out of her way to guide us to our campsite, making the whole experience easy and stress-free.
The views were absolutely breathtaking — overlooking the Glass House Mountains with stunning views stretching all the way to the city. It was peaceful, scenic, and the perfect place to unwind.
Viola was a fantastic host and made us feel right at home. We’d highly recommend staying here and will definitely be back again!

Where to go
The North Gorge Headlands Walk
This walk is not to be missed, as the boardwalk offers stunning views of the gorge, and is a great place for spotting turtles, dolphins, and whales (between May and November).
Naree Budjong Djara National Park walking tracks
Six walking tracks run through the park, five of which start in the car park at Blue Lake (Kaboora), about 9 km from Dunwich. Some tracks have limited shade, so early morning walks are best, especially in summer. The most challenging track is Kabul (carpet snake), which has long steep sections. The Jarlo (fire beetle) track offers views to the Gold Coast, Brisbane, and the Glass House Mountains to the north.
Brown Lake (Lake Bummiera)
Brown Lake is stained by the tannin from the leaves of surrounding tea trees and paperbarks. It is only 3.5 km from Dunwich and a great place for birdwatching and wildflowers, while waterside trails allow you to walk the lake’s perimeter.
Moreton Bay Marine Park
Snorkel or scuba dive with giant manta rays and lazy leopard sharks in Moreton Bay Marine Park on a tour with a local outfitter. At Manta Bommie, off the island’s northeast corner, these amazing creatures are unfazed by swimmers above them. The excursion might also include sightings of turtles, dolphins, and bull sharks.
When to go
North Stradbroke Island’s subtropical climate makes it a year-round destination. Summers are warm and sometimes rainy, while winters are mild. Temperatures range from 22–30°C in summer (December to February), and in winter (June to August), you can expect 12–20°C.
Know before you go
- Bookings and camping permits are essential on North Stradbroke Island.
- A regular passenger and car ferry service operates from Brisbane, or you can take a private water taxi. The crossing takes about 30 minutes, and ferries are met by local buses at Dunwich.
- If travelling without camping gear, Straddie Camper Trailer & Camping Equipment Hire at Point Lookout can provide everything you need—and they’ll even set up camp for you. First-time campers can get extra instruction to feel prepared.
- The best place to see the sensational Straddie sunsets is at Amity Point, on the northernmost tip of the island.
- Blue Lake (Kaboora) is a place of cultural significance for the Quandamooka people and should be respected. Swimming is not allowed—instead, soak up the beauty of what is known as the "deep, silent pool."
