Dead wood on the property is OK to burn but please do not burn your trash. All trash and waste needs to be packed out. There are trash cans and restrooms at the rest stop at I-25 and Highway 165. Firewood is available to purchase nearby in Colorado City at Ace Hardware and others.
You will have your choice of Camp site #1 and/or #2. They have flat mulched areas for an RV/Camper or for tent camping. Each has a fire ring and picnic table. Both sites allow room to turn around an RV or camper. Bring your own toilet for now. There is minimal shade available, so plan accordingly. Potable water is available at the blue ground hydrant in front of the little cabin to the west. It takes about 10 seconds to start running.
Use of firearms is prohibited. No fireworks are allowed.
Quiet time is after 10:00 p.m. Please be respectful of neighboring properties. remember you are on a hilltop so sound can travel :)

-No fires what so ever! Fire danger is extremely high in this area.
- Although we are only forty miles from the Sand Dunes park, it is a four hour drive to get there, so maybe not the best area to stay if the dunes are on your list.
- Days in the summer can get pretty hot and shade is hard to come by, so plan a day trip to Florence river park, (about 30 minutes drive)and hop in the Arkansas river and cool off.
- this is a wilderness area and all Colorado wildlife is present.

Lovely place! The bathrooms were clean and you can’t beat a hot shower. They had several bbq grills for guest to use. It was nice to be so close to Royal Gorge. Don’t pass up your change to stay here, you won’t regret.

Perfect spot for the night. You’re literally in front of Red Rock Canyon, nice surprise to wake up to! Felt safe. There was a street light on all night, but didn’t bother us too much with blackout curtains. Would recommend.

It's too cold to tent camp so this quaint cabin was perfect. Still cooked on camp stove outside but with the benefit of electricity to heat up water in kettle provided. Had a lovely campfire one night but mostly stayed warm with the wood burning stove. We normally bring 10 gallons of water but this had a potable well pump that saved us the trouble. It was a perfectly relaxing atmosphere and stay. The night sky was gorgeous. The hike around the property lovely. The dogs were friendly and charming. Lorie is attentive and helpful. At my questioning she suggested Beckwith Ranch a worthwhile stop. I spent 2 hours there and got a private tour! It was a wonderful stay. Oh, and the the outhouse was positively posh😊

The owner was amazingly accommodating and switched us to blueberry camp which was very accessible! We will definitely be making a tradition of returning to yakalo! Just make sure you have 4 wheel drive and get there while it’s light out, the drive is a bit scary when people are speeding down the mountain. She also has water filters to drink the fresh underground spring water! 10/10 camping experience

It's a nice quiet spot off the beaten path. Dan is a great host. This isn't an RV park with full hook-ups or anything. But there's a nice view of the surrounding hills and a cattle pen with cows and some chickens. A great place to park and take a break for a night or two.

Angela responded quickly to our questions and made us feel welcome. I highly recommend this camp site. The site was a little slanted.

This was a great stop on my best friend reunion tour! We opted for a cabin and it was a cute, warm, clean and cozy little place. You don't have your own bathroom and have to walk to the common building for stalls and showers, but that was ok- it was clean and not too far away from the cabin. Be sure to peek in to the vintage "RV museum"- 3 restored RVs that are retro outfitted and fun to explore. The woman manning the check in/shop was super friendly and gave good recommendations for places in Cañon City, which is about 15 mins away. We were also pleased to be a short walk from the Gold Mine gem shop, full of beautiful things! In October the area is out of season, so it was pretty quiet, and we were happy with that! I would recommend Starlite for a welcoming glamping experience.

It was a great place to sleep for the night. Definitely felt safe. I travel with my dog who is alert at every noise. I was aware of the tour busses on the weekends…apparently my dog was not. They were great! If you are a person who travels alone this is an awesome place to stay for a wonderful price. If we are coming through again I will absolutely pick this spot.

Weekend Trip to Bear Creek Ranch
We had such a lovely time at Bear Creek Ranch. The cabin is supplied well with things like an electric kettle, tea bags, coffee, firewood, and a fan for warm evenings. We loved getting to lay in the grass in front of the cabin and see the Milky Way. We made fires in the evenings in the wood stove, so cozy. The dogs are calm and friendly, as are the horses. The outhouse was very clean and not smelly at all, and very close to the cabin. It was a perfect weekend getaway for us to slow down and reconnect.

About
Lake Pueblo State Park offers more than 60 miles of shoreline, 4,600 surface acres of water, and two full-service marinas, ideal for boating, sailing, water skiing, jet skiing, river tubing, and fishing for a variety of stocked fish. You’ll also find plenty to do on land, including excellent mountain biking and hiking along some 75 miles of paved and unpaved trails. Nearly 400 campsites make it easy to spend the night—all include a paved parking area, covered picnic table, and fire pit, while some sites offer electric and water hookups.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for RVs campers and lake access: All of the sites in the Arkansas Point Campground feature 50-amp electric hookups and easy access to the south boat ramp.
- Best for peace and quiet: There are no water or electric hookups in the Juniper Breaks Campground.
- Best for groups: Loops M, N, and O in the Eagle View area of Northern Plains Campground are best set up to accommodate groups.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- All campsites require a reservation. During peak season, make a reservation as soon as you know your dates, as early as six months in advance.
- If your plans are flexible, try to visit during the week, during non-holiday periods, or in winter. The park is open year-round.
- Plan to arrive first thing in the morning to make a reservation for any potential unreserved sites.
When to go
The park is busiest between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Temperatures soar in summer, making it a popular time for water sports and the best fishing. The Rock Canyon Swim Beach is only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day from Thursday through Monday. Small game and waterfowl hunting is permitted in designated areas between Labor Day and Memorial Day. The park is open year-round, with generally mild temperatures, making non-peak periods a great time to escape the crowds. Winter is ideal for spotting water birds.
Know before you go
- The North Shore Marina rents sailboats while the South Shore Marina rents pontoons and jet skis.
- Swimming is not permitted in the reservoir (though wading is). Swimming is only permitted at the Rock Canyon Swim Beach, although there are no lifeguards.
- Boating is permitted 24 hours a day, but loading and unloading is prohibited after hours.
- Hunters may only use a bow and arrow or shotguns loaded with birdshot.
- The park offers several accessible campsites, parking spaces, fishing piers, restrooms, showers, picnic tables, grills, and a paved path around the pond.
- Bring your own firewood or purchase it onsite. Cutting or gathering wood in the park is prohibited.

The grounds are covered with rock so bring padding for comfort. The walk to the water isn’t bad if you can find a good spot. Neutral about the stay but may go again for the water

Packed like sardines butt to butt. Rare shade or trees. If you have a dog with long hair they will be LOADED with stickers if they leave the pavement. No water hook ups.

Great bike/hike trails--but keep your eyes out for snakes, especially in the Fall. The site is upgrading their electrical (1/2017). No news of when it will be finished.
A great, warm destination on those weekends when you want to camp during those awkward weather times of the year. Lake is walking distance, and the marina is close for supplies.
