It’s Real Rustic Out Here. Welcome to Yakalo Ranch — 37 acres of private mountain land near Colorado Springs, surrounded by the beauty of Pike National Forest. This is NOT glamping. Yakalo is for campers looking for a genuine, rustic Colorado mountain camping experience: hike in, pitch your tent, explore the trails, listen to the creeks and springs, and leave the land as you found it. Choose your adventure: 🏕️ Bring Your Own Tent — Hike in and pitch your tent at one of our rustic campsites. ⛺ Tent Provided — Stay in one of ours and bring the rest of your camping gear. 🌲 Sasquatch Forest — Hanging-tent camping is coming soon for campers brave enough to spend the night looking for Bigfoot. Wild Colorado, right outside your tent! Yakalo Ranch is home to mountain views, natural springs and creeks, rock formations, historic mining features and miles of places to explore. Wildlife sightings may include elk, deer, wild turkey, foxes, black bears and other native Colorado wildlife. You'll also meet some of the ranch animals along the way. Depending on the season, explore hiking trails, horseback riding, fishing, snow sledding and other outdoor adventures. You'll also find wild berries and other native plants growing throughout the property. The Bunkhouse After a day outside, head back to our community Bunkhouse and campfire area, open daily from 10 AM–10 PM. Pull up a bench, meet other campers and stay awhile. Please note: Pets are welcome at campsites but are not permitted at the Bunkhouse due to working guard dogs and livestock. Explore Yakalo Our trails and landmarks include Makayla Meadow, Vultures Point, Roy's Ridge, Walter's Historic Well, Historic Pipeline Trail, Stonehenge's Table, Ponderosa Pine Forest, Sleeping Giant Trail, Sasquatch Forest and Squirrel Falls. Some backcountry areas and dispersed camping locations require a guide. Trail difficulty ranges from easy walks to challenging mountain hikes. Know Before You Book Yakalo Ranch follows Leave No Trace principles. This is an intentionally rustic camping experience, so guests should arrive prepared to pack it in and pack it out. Native terrain, wildlife and changing mountain conditions are part of the experience. If you're looking for paved campsites, manicured grounds and resort-style camping, Yakalo probably isn't your place. But if you're looking for a quiet tent, a mountain trail, running water nearby, wildlife outside your campsite and a little Colorado adventure… Welcome to Yakalo Ranch. Pipeline Camp sits alongside a flowing mountain creek and offers more separation from neighboring campsites. Stonehenge’s Table is a spacious group campsite tucked among towering pines, massive natural rock formations and its namesake stone “table.” Just steps away flows the unnamed mountain creek we call Carsen Creek, named in memory of my son. Natural pools along the creek offer a beautiful place to sit beside the water or cool off on warm days. Surrounded by boulders, forest and mountain views, this site has a secluded backcountry feel while keeping you close to the water. Bring your tent, hammock and camp chairs and settle in for a true rustic Colorado mountain camping experience.

Blueberry Camp — Easy Access & Creekside One of Yakalo Ranch's more accessible campsites, Blueberry is a great choice if you want the rustic experience without a longer hike carrying your gear. Enjoy the nearby creek and convenient access to the Bunkhouse and ranch amenities. Good to know: Blueberry is closer to Old Stage Road than some of our backcountry sites, so occasional road noise may be heard. Campers seeking maximum seclusion may prefer one of our deeper hike-in sites.

Fallen Tree

Fallen Tree is one of Yakalo Ranch’s favorite creekside campsites, tucked deeper into the ranch along Sleeping Giant Trail. About a 5-minute hike from the parking area, you’ll cross the banks of Carsen Creek, a mountain creek fed by several natural springs. The shallow water is perfect for wading and cooling off on warm days. The campsite is near our Stonehenge’s Table rock formations and group gathering area, giving you easy access to one of the ranch’s most unique natural features while still enjoying a peaceful woodland setting. And there’s something especially unique about this site: a natural spring was recently discovered right at camp! Fallen Tree is a great choice for campers who want creek access, natural spring water, an easy hike-in and a little more immersion in the ranch.

Aksel Fig is a unique woodland campsite tucked beside Yakalo Ranch’s “Mini Caves,” a collection of natural rock formations waiting to be explored. Located along Vulture’s Nest Trail, the journey to camp takes you past the hot tub, across the bridge and by Angela Falls before continuing deeper into the property. From the trail junction, it’s approximately a 3-minute hike to Aksel Fig. Surrounded by pines and distinctive rock formations, this site is a fun choice for campers who want something a little different from our creekside camps—a secluded mountain hideaway with plenty to explore right around camp. Best for: campers who love rock formations, exploring, privacy and a short hike-in adventure.

Colorado Gold sits at the far southeastern end of Yakalo Ranch, along Gold Creek and bordering Pike National Forest. Tucked into one of the ranch’s more remote corners, this site is a great choice for campers looking for extra seclusion, creek access and a little adventure. But why Colorado Gold? Spend some time wading through the cool creek pools and try your hand at panning—you may find out. Around here, we like to say, “There’s gold in them thar hills!” 😉 Because Colorado Gold is farther into the ranch, guests are directed to a separate unloading and parking area closer to the site rather than using the main Yakalo parking lot. Best for: adventurous campers looking for gold panning, creek access, extra privacy and a campsite bordering Pike National Forest.

Claire Bear

Claire Bear is one of Yakalo Ranch’s most secluded and spacious campsites, tucked deeper into the ranch among the pines near Carsen Creek. An approximately 8-minute hike from the parking area along Sleeping Giant Trail brings you deeper into Yakalo, where you'll cross the rocks of our year-round, spring-fed creek before reaching camp. Claire Bear offers plenty of room to spread out, beautiful forest surroundings and more separation from the activity of the ranch. Carsen Creek is nearby and is perfect for wading and cooling off on warm Colorado days. If all of that sounds like too much, just settle in with a cup of cowboy coffee and enjoy the quiet. Nothing beats nature at its finest when you just need to get away, unplug, and immerse yourself in the mountains. We make winter camping easier by having your canvas hot tent and basic camp setup ready for you. Just bring your food, water, warm clothes, and winter sleeping bags—and come enjoy Yakalo in the snow. Wood-burning hot-tent stove inside the canvas tent provides heat and can also be used for simple stovetop cooking. A large outdoor campfire area is located just outside the hot-tent area.

We enjoyed the set up and accommodations at the blueberry site, the wood burning hot tub, the creek, the open campground. Daniel, the ranch hand, was very kind and helpful. The one downside was that it is right next to the road, which was a bit noisy times through out the night.

I loved Angela’s spot! So serene by the creek and feels super secluded even though it’s pretty close to Colorado Springs. Having the fire pit during the fire burn was a major plus, made our stay so much more fun!

great site next to the spring with plenty of space. site didn’t get muddy despite the rain which was nice. very private and well kept. we definitely overpacked and will cut down on the gear next time since there is a bit of a hike in with some incline so it took us several trips from the car to the site. I can’t compliment the staff enough. Everyone was very welcoming and willing to help us with anything we needed. We will continue to come back and look forward to trying out the other sites.

Askel Fig is an absolutely beautiful campsite and has been a wonderful place for Pay It Fur-Ward and the people and pets we support. The creek is peaceful and refreshing, and the deeper area nearby is perfect for wading and cooling off on hot summer days. Angela and her team are always incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming. Their compassion and willingness to support both people and animals truly stand out. We are so grateful for the care they put into the property and the way they treat everyone who stays there. Askel Fig is a special place, and we highly recommend it.

Check in was a breeze, Danny was extremely helpful and wakes the site with us. This was close to Colorado Springs but far enough that you were deep in nature. Lots of trails to hike, the running creek gave great ambiance too. Everyone had about one bar of reception and could make calls of needed. So peaceful and quiet too!

I absolutely loved staying at Yakalo SW Dispersed Site. It was everything I was hoping for, beautiful, peaceful, clean, and incredibly quiet. The scenery is gorgeous, and it was the perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy nature without feeling crowded. I enjoyed it so much that I actually extended my stay because I just wasn’t ready to leave. Every day made me appreciate the area even more. If you’re looking for a serene, well-kept dispersed camping spot where you can truly disconnect and enjoy the outdoors, I can’t recommend this place enough. I’ll definitely be coming back.

We absolutely loved this site. By far the nicest campsite I've ever been at. The Pipeline campsite was a walk-in site (about a 2 minute walk) and was right along a flowing creek. A campfire pit and firewood were provided and it was fairly secluded enough from neighboring campsites. The ranchhands were very friendly/helpful and there is a barnhouse with some additional amenities as well. We will definitely be staying here again if we are ever back in the area!

This place was absolutely incredible, the true camping experience I have been waiting to have for years, bathing in the creek of the mountains, and being immersed in Gods nature! Angela has done an incredible job with the place, she was very accommodating to anything we needed. We booked a campsite that ended up not being what we wanted for that specific trip when we got there , so she switched us to a spot that was more tailored to our needs. She was very kind, thoughtful and considerate with everything we needed and the spot was breath taking.

It was a great start to a long adventure. Great hosts - extremely friendly. Drink spring water and relax all day. Definitely better in fall or winter time I am sure but still a great time in the woods without being isolated. And the cheyenne mountain trails are crazy cool.

I can’t say enough good things about Yakalo Ranch’s Fallen Tree campsite. The site itself was absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and incredibly well maintained. One of my favorite parts was the creek running nearby. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of flowing water 24/7 was nothing short of heavenly and made for one of the most relaxing camping experiences I’ve ever had. What was originally supposed to be a much shorter stay turned into nearly a month because I just didn’t want to leave. I found myself extending my trip multiple times simply because I loved being there so much. My dogs absolutely loved it as well and had an amazing time exploring and enjoying the outdoors. This is actually the second campsite I’ve stayed at on Yakalo Ranch, and once again it exceeded my expectations. Angela and her staff are some of the kindest, most attentive people you’ll meet. They genuinely care about their guests and work hard to make sure everyone has a great experience. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape surrounded by nature, I highly recommend Yakalo Ranch. The beautiful scenery, relaxing atmosphere, and wonderful people make it a place you’ll want to come back to again and again.

I recently stayed at Yakalo Ranch Pipeline Camp and absolutely loved it. The site is beautiful, quiet, and incredibly peaceful. There’s a gorgeous creek running right by the tent site that made the whole experience feel relaxing and secluded. The camp is about 7 miles up the mountain, so it feels far enough away to really disconnect and enjoy nature, while still being accessible. My dogs had the absolute time of their lives exploring, splashing around, and enjoying all the open space. It was the perfect spot to unwind, recharge, and just enjoy the outdoors for a while. We’ll definitely be back.

The owner was amazingly accommodating and switched us to blueberry camp which was very accessible! We will definitely be making a tradition of returning to yakalo! Just make sure you have 4 wheel drive and get there while it’s light out, the drive is a bit scary when people are speeding down the mountain. She also has water filters to drink the fresh underground spring water! 10/10 camping experience

We had a wonderful time at the camp site ! The area was clean, quit, and well maintained. The creek near the camp site was very relaxing, we slept like hibernating bears. Angela responded quickly to our questions and made us feel welcome. I highly recommend this camp site. The site was a little slanted.

We really enjoyed our time here! There are two separate areas at the site, each with a fire ring a spot for a tent. We fit our large 8-person tent on one side so we could use the other for food, fire, and sitting. Shade was great, and the spot was private. It unfortunately rained for most of the time, but we got to visit a cantina up the road to get out for a bit.

Really cool and beautiful spot, tucked back into the woods and the little stream running was such a beautiful background and our doggie loved drinking from it. I slept so well with that sound! One con, space is all on a pitch, our tent was at an angle. I don’t see how 8 people could fit in this spot.
