Featuring an amazing rustic cabin, nine riverside campsites, along with paddock and bush sites, all 4WD accessible and two equally stunning 2WD accessible sites. You’ll share our spaces with kangaroos, wallabies, emus, echidnas, deer, platypus and more. Enjoy some optional extras, including Tammie's home made bread, farm fresh, free range eggs, or one of our range of grazing platters, home made jams or hot chocolate kits. The 2WD accessible sites feature spectacular views to the right, towards Mt Panorama and Mt Horrible and towards Mt Canobolas to the left. Each campsite offers its own unique features for you to enjoy and a hand crafted pit toilet is accessible to those camped along the river bank. There are many spots in the various 4WD accessible paddocks around the property to camp to your hearts content. Plenty of room for children to run around in a safe farm environment further away from the river, so choose your spot, under the shade of a tree or out in the open. PLEASE NOTE: Our paddock sites are NOT located on the river bank. These sites are 500 - 700 metres walk from the river but this doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to swim. All guests are able to access the river, we simply ask that you don’t encroach on other guests campsites whilst doing so. If you’re not into actual camping in tent or trailer form, come spend some time in our insulated rustic cabin that has been lovingly built by Damo. Featuring an open floor plan with a queen bed, a bunk bed and two singles, this space can accomodate up to 6 people. Sheets are provided but guests will need to provide their own blankets and pillows. Heating and cooking are facilitated by a cast iron wood fire, featuring two hot plates and an oven space and there is a cold water sink for drinking water and dishes. Some wood will be provided for your stay. Once this is gone, you may purchase extra. A small fridge will facilitate some food and drink storage but you may need to bring a portable fridge/esky as well. A gas powered shower can be hired if required. A new long drop is under construction closer to the cabin but for the moment, feel free to use the communal long drop near the camp kitchen. A rechargeable lantern is supplied for you to take with you. The cabin is solar powered, with usb points for phone charging, but no other power points. There is also an outdoor fire pit, and outdoor setting if you’d prefer to cook outside, or simply sit around it enjoying the ambience of being in nature. Wood for the fire pit will need to be brought in, or feel free to collect fallen wood from around the property. Please DO NOT cut down or deface any standing trees. A fantastic location for a girls or boys weekend, somewhere for the elders or non camping family members to stay, or for a weekend away with the family camping without actual camping!

This place is awesome, secluded, quiet, peaceful. Sites are set apart from each other. The river flowing, horses and llamas wandering around, plus kangaroos and possums. Great to be able to have a fire, we brought in own wood but lots of dead wood lying around to use. We tent camped and hog heaven was brilliant. There’s a drop toilet and another one in the process of being built. There was only one other tent camper there when we were there and we didn’t even know until we went for a walk. The drive down to the sites was fun but absolutely 4wd, it was mad! Met Tammie on arrival I had preordered a grazing plate and bread, heaps to eat on grazing plate and the bread was outstanding. We ended up extending another night we loved it so much. Highly recommend watton airstrip will definitely return. Thank you Damien and Tammie for opening your beautiful property up for guests to enjoy

A Riverside Hidden Gem!

We had a great time staying here and are already planning our next trip back. The drive down to the river was a proper 4WD challenge, which was a blast and really made it feel like an adventure. The river spot itself is stunning. It offers such a peaceful outlook, exactly what we needed to unplug and recharge. The sites are also spaced out really well, you get plenty of privacy without feeling like you’re on top of anyone else. Having the horses and alpacas roaming around was a fun bonus and such a cool thing to wake up to. If you’re after a quiet, private getaway with a bit of off-road fun to get there, this is the place. Can’t wait to rebook!

We loved tent camping at hogs heaven watton airstrip. Peaceful with horses and llamas walking around and kangaroos. It definitely is 4wd only the road down to the river was mad! There is only 1 drop toilet but another one in the process of being built by the looks of things. Always awesome to have a camp fire, we brought own wood but heaps of wood lying around. The camp sites were all spaced apart, though there was only another camper when we were there did not see them. The property is beautiful a credit to Damien and Tammie . We ordered a grazing plate and sourdough bread off Tammie, both were amazing. Definitely recommend this Hipcamp we will definitely be back.

This was an absolutely fantastic spot! Beautiful property and we would highly recommend. Instructions were clear. Campsites were a good distance apart and west end was definitely our pick as down one end and a bit more private although the kids also liked swimming at the site “the deep end” as it was a good depth and site had a lot of shade which would be great in Summer. The creek was great for the kids to play in and the dog absolutely loved it. Campsites were clean with a provided fire pit and drop toilet. Thanks Damien and Tammie for a great long weekend.

We had a great time. Tammie & Damien provided us with an amazing box of meat and fresh cooked sourdough which was the icing on the cake. Very hospitable and kept checking we had enough food. It was lovely to see the alpacas and horses roaming free. A 4WD is none negotiable it’s a very rocky uneven terrain so make sure you go in a vehicle that can deal with that. The stars are amazing and the river is gorgeous

Babbling brook camp site

Absolute best spot for camping that we have been to so far. Owners Damo and Tammy are really lovely. The grass was freshly mowed, the site was very tidy and clean. The river is like a picturesque babbling brook with shallow and deep-ish areas, great for kids exploring among the rocks. Warn the kids that the rocks are VERY slippery before hand. Horses were friendly and loved our carrots. The 4x4 access track is not for beginners (in our opinion). Drop toilet was a maintained one and quite rustic. We bought eggs from Tammy, they were delicious and fresh. Stayed in April, had no mosquitoes or flies - only tiny moths at night at the gazebo lights. This is a special spot, not one to hesitate booking. Thanks for your hospitality Tammy and Damo!

This was our second stay at Watton Airstrip, we couldn’t stay away for long! This time we stayed at The Hideout, right next to our last spot (The Beach), and it was just as beautiful, right on the water with such a relaxing vibe. We also noticed a new toilet being built close by. As always, we highly recommend - and the 4WD track up and down the hill is such a fun little thrill!

This is by far one of the best camp-sites I have stayed at. We messaged Damien and Tammie prior to arriving letting them know the setup (BT50 towing a 15ft caravan) we were planing to bring and Damien said it would should be OK. Driving down the the site was a bit challenging with a caravan but was fine. Once we were down there we were met with an amazing site. The grass was very well kept and the river was beautiful. We found out site easily and had a very relaxing couple of days. We woke up each morning with the horses around the camp-site which the kids loved. You could tell that Damien and Tammie put a lot of effort into maintaining the site. When it was time to leave I was a bit nervous about whether I would be able to get out. It was a challenging drive and I feel I would not of made it out if I didn't have a rear locker. I would suggest anyone attempting to bring a heavy caravan down to be experienced in 4wding. In saying that we would highly recommend anyone looking for a riverside campsite to consider staying here.

The camp ground is beautiful and loved that the horses roam the paddock. The freshwater creek is stunning and well worth the drive down. The track down to the camp ground is definitely an offroad track, however is still manageable just low range and walk it back up.

We had such a great stay at Watton! We booked Drovers run which was further back from the river (but not too far) and it was perfect as it gave us the privacy and a huge spot for our dog to run around. The campsite itself was beautiful, surrounded with farm animals, huge space and the river was the icing on the cake! Damien, the host was absolutely amazing! He gave us itinerary for the perfect day trip, which was the highlight of our stay. He also managed to save us by lending us his leads when our tent deflated..,and the homemade bread that Tammie made was soo good. We sure will come back again. Thank you so much!

Damien and Tammie’s property was lovely! Despite going on a public holiday weekend, the sites were very spread out and large giving us our own area which was great! River is great, be aware you will most likely need to pull your kayak through certain spots due to shallow water/rocks. But it’s lovely and clean, great place to take a dip! Both hosts were very lovely and we loved our stay on their property! Thanks legends!

One of the best campsite we’ve ever been. Amazing spot near the river, our area is in Dovers run which I loved as it provides privacy from busy campers near the river., although it’s probably a 5mins walk from where we were. Damien the host was super welcoming and gave us the best day trip itinerary with his local knowledge! He also saved us by lending us his solar panel when our tent was deflating! The fresh bread we ordered from them was soooo good! Thank u so much for an amazing stay and for being the best host! We’ll definitely be back!

Camping at Watton Airfield was so perfect we extended twice and stayed 8 nights. It was so peaceful… the gorgeous river, grass mowed like a park, stars, horses, alpacas, platypus.
