The Ranch on Clarence – Horse Lovers' Camp & Riverside Escape Escape to a truly unique Australian ranch experience on the banks of the magnificent Clarence River. Nestled on 113 acres with over 1.3 kilometres of private Clarence River frontage, The Ranch on Clarence is home to more than 35 beautiful horses, including Andalusians, Warlanders, Friesians, Stock Horses and other much-loved breeds, all living as naturally as possible across the property. Unlike traditional campgrounds, we've intentionally designed each campsite to feel exclusive, private and immersed in nature. Rather than camping alongside dozens of other people, every campsite has been carefully positioned to provide its own sense of space, privacy and tranquillity. We want every guest to feel as though they've discovered their own secluded corner of the Australian bush. Whether you're perched high above the river on a spectacular cliff, camped beside peaceful rapids, tucked beneath towering trees or overlooking wide sandy beaches, each campsite offers its own unique outlook and connection with nature. Wake to birdsong, watch horses grazing nearby, enjoy campfires beneath star-filled skies and reconnect with a slower pace of life. Spend your days swimming in crystal-clear freshwater, kayaking, fishing, exploring walking and mountain biking trails, spotting platypus, or simply relaxing beside one of Australia's most beautiful rivers. Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation or simply a place to reconnect with nature, we look forward to welcoming you. Guest Information Welcome to The Ranch on Clarence. This is our family home, a working Australian ranch and the home of our much-loved horses and farm animals. One of the most special parts of staying here is sharing the landscape with our free-roaming horses and experiencing authentic ranch life. We kindly ask that all guests help us create a peaceful, respectful and safe environment for everyone. During Your Stay Please arrive during your nominated check-in time. If you expect to arrive late, we'd appreciate a quick message. Please respect the privacy of other campers by keeping noise to a minimum, particularly during the early morning and evening. Leave your campsite clean and tidy, taking all rubbish with you or placing it in the designated bins. Campfires are permitted only in designated fire pits and only when local fire restrictions allow. Never leave a fire unattended. Our Horses & Animals Our horses are treasured members of our ranch family. Please help us care for them by following these simple guidelines: DO NOT feed the horses or any other animals. Our horses are on carefully managed diets and unsuitable food can make them seriously unwell. For your safety, never feed horses while they are together as a herd. Even the quietest horses can become excited around food and may crowd people or compete with one another, creating a potentially dangerous situation. If you would like to meet or interact with the horses, please speak with us first. We are always happy to introduce you when it is safe and appropriate. Allow our horses to approach you in their own time and always respect their personal space. Please do not run, scream, chase, throw objects at or deliberately startle any horses or other animals. Leave gates exactly as you found them and do not enter paddocks or restricted areas unless invited by a member of The Ranch team. Please respect our fences, gardens, equipment, wildlife and fellow guests. Children Children are very welcome at The Ranch and remain the responsibility of their parent or legal guardian at all times. Please ensure children are supervised throughout their stay and do not: Run or play around horses or livestock. Chase, frighten or attempt to ride any animals. Climb fences or enter paddocks without permission. Open gates. Feed any animals. Photography From time to time, photographs or videos may be taken around the property for promotional purposes. Banner's Hill Campsite: Under the Sacred Iron Bark Nestled beneath a grand Iron Bark tree at the northern end of our property, Banner's Hill campsite offers sweeping open views and stunning starry night skies. This secluded and exclusive campsite is set approximately 200 meters back from the river, providing a peaceful retreat immersed in nature. The campsite is named after Banner, our gentle Clydesdale, who loves to relax under the Iron Bark’s shade. While the site is entirely yours, you share it with Banner and the rest of the herd, who like to spend their days and nights there to graze and hang out—Banner especially holds this spot dearest of all and spends much of his time there communing with the sacred Scar Tree. It is said that it took 4 Aboriginal men to cut the bark off for a canoe. Please be respectful of this sacred site. The campsite requires 4WD access and is available in dry weather only. Amenities Flush toilet: Located near the main Homestead. This unlevelled, rustic site offers a serene and unique camping experience by the Clarence River. With only the horses as your neighbors, it’s the perfect escape for those seeking exclusivity and a deep connection to nature.

Riverside 4WD Camp (Dry Weather Only) Tucked right down by the river, this is our closest and most enchanted campsite—perfect for those wanting a more immersive, off-grid nature experience. This site is 4WD access only and best suited to tents, swags, or off-road camper trailers. The track in adds to the adventure, rewarding you with a peaceful spot right by the water. There are perfectly level areas to set up, along with beautiful shady spots, and you’ll fall asleep to the sound of the nearby rapids. Please note this site is strictly weather dependent. It is only available during dry conditions, as the area can be impacted by rising water levels and potential flash flooding. For your safety, we do not allow bookings here if there is any rain forecast. If wet weather is expected, you’re very welcome to stay at one of our alternative sites on higher ground. If you’re chasing a quiet riverside escape and don’t mind a bit of 4WD adventure to get there, this is a truly special spot. This is our third weekend back at Shanti’s for the ranch weekend! As always, Shanti opened her home and her heart to us, and we were blessed with her gorgeous mother staying for the weekend too! Love all the horses, and love watching Shanti do her magic with them.. swimming the horses in the river was a highlight.. just so much fun! We will keep coming back that’s for sure!

The Bunkhouse: It’s spacious and cleanThe kids absolutely loved the indoor hammock—it was the favorite "chill spot" after a long day of exploring. The Horse Experience: This was the highlight of our trip. The horses are beautiful and well-cared for. Our kids had the best time getting up close to them at the fence and going on a guided ride. The Shanti and Gav were fantastic—super patient and nice, making sure everyone felt safe and comfortable in the saddle. strongly recommending the horse riding and troopy safari

Paradise point is an amazing spot next to the Clarence river with the most beautiful views of the land, it’s the best place to watch the sunset with crazy colours over the mountains. You have the best of both worlds at the ranch a spot with a view and a place to cool off down the road at the crossing can’t wait to come back again. Shanti and crew are easy going people and are very welcoming make sure you say hello 😊

One of the most welcoming, warm and peaceful spots we have been to. Shanti is such an amazing host who instantly made us feel part of the family but also allowed us our space and time to enjoy her stunning property. Having the horses come to the campsite and literally under the caravan awning was an amazing experience and they made themselves at home around the campfire. They are so well looked after and extremely friendly. We will be back as soon as we can.

What a fantastic camp! We absolutely loved Shanti’s property. A beautifully prepared campsite with canoe’s and SUPs there ready to explore the Clarence River just a short stroll down the hill. And don’t even get me started on watching the sunsets from the outdoor bathtubs 🥰 Shanti is the perfect host, nothing is too much trouble and her property is an animal lovers paradise with gentle horses quietly passing through grazing on the grass and the odd visit from one or two of Shanti’s dogs. No barking, no aggression, just there for a pat and a scratch then off they go. Absolutely can not recommend this Hipcamp enough. We will most definitely be back!!!

We had a great time with our doggo at Swan Lake. The camp area itself is lovely and flat, and although it’s a steep walk back up the hill about 100m to use the amenities there is a lovely outdoor hot&cold shower and a flushing loo to use, both with privacy screens. We can highly recommend the baths for a cool-off on a hot day, and a trip to nearby Yates Crossing for a picnic and a quick dip. Note reception was patchy in the area for us (both Telstra carriers) but we were offered use of wifi up at the homestead if we needed it. Shanti was very friendly and helpful. Would love to go back in the colder months to get use of the fire!

The most stunning views at Romeo and Juliet, a perfect little outcropping overlooking the river. You really feel like you have the whole place to yourself, this is not a hipcamp where you’re shoulder to shoulder with other campers - isolated bliss!

Wow, words can not do justice the amazing time we had at the Ranch! The river views, the hospitality, the tranquility & the fire baths were just magical. Shanti has truly created a slice of heaven out there. For the icing on the cake, make sure to book the horse trek + swim.. i’ve done many treks in my life and this was the best. Plenty of trotting and cantering through stunning scenery, finished by a swim with the horses. Shanti’s way with horses is so special to witness, you can tell they love her as much as she loves them. We will be back, with friends in tow.

Swan Lake is literally heaven! it’s one of my favourite places on earth. surrounded by Stunning views of the river, fire baths at your toes, immersed in bird song and nature! A short wander for that morning or arvo swim - you literally can’t go wrong. And if you love horses - you’re in for a treat! This is a very special place. Shhhhhh don’t tell anyone 😂

we loved staying at The Ranch on Clarence…. it was phenomenal- we stayed for my birthday and had the best time riding and enjoying the beautiful property. Shanti is the best host ever! Bunch house was cosy and clean and brimming with retro charm - the perfect escape.

We had a lovely, relaxing three night stay at The Ranch. The Swan Lake campground was nice and private down the bottom of the hill near the river. The fire baths were great and a perfect way to spend the late afternoon and watching the sunset. Definitely bring or arrange to purchase enough firewood to keep you going. The kids also enjoyed hunting for fireflies near the river in the evening. It was a bit of a hike to get to the toilet but it was nice to have this amenity. We booked the 2 hour horse ride including swimming the horses and Shanti and Phoenix did a really good job of leading the group and involving the kids as much as possible. Highly recommend including this optional extra as part of your stay. The midday checkout made for a more relaxing last morning too.

Wonderful and unique

Shanti’s property is on a beautiful stretch of the wide and deep Clarence river. We swam in the river (which is clean and moves) and loved the outdoor baths at Swan Lake campsite, but staying anywhere on this expansive property would be delightful. The Troopie tour to round up the horses was fun and a great way to see more of the land. Shanti loves her land, livestock and dogs and this imbued the welcome in a positive way. It’s the perfect place to chill or be more active.

Amazing weekend spent at the ranch. The only problem was that we had to leave. We worried that photos of the bath tubs with a view would be a bit of instagram vs reality, but it was honestly better in person. Watching the sunset over the mountains, and seeing the sky filling with stars, all whilst relaxing in a bath that gets warmer the longer you are in was unbelievable! There is a reason Shanti is a star host, because she is the best. Made us feel so welcome and added so much to our time there. The troopy safari is a must. We were going to give it a miss but so glad we didn’t. Bouncing around in the troopy as Shanti calls for the horses was amazing to see, and we had smiles on our faces the whole time. And is a great way to get in horsey mood before going out for a ride. Shanti takes you on an amazing horseback tour of the grounds, and is great with all skill levels (we were 1 novice and 1 experienced) giving you tips along the way. Thank you Shanti for an amazing weekend! Can’t wait to see you again. Dickie and Katie

The Bunkhouse - Sleeps 9
I loved staying in the bunkhouse at The Ranch on Clarence. It's an amazing property with plenty of animals, breathtaking views, and plenty of places to walk on the property. Add to it that you are really close to Yates Crossings where you can 4wd, go for a swim, or even just go for a nice walk around. I would very highly recommend staying here.
