Welcome to Our Cane & Cattle Farm on the Clarence River Step onto our four‑generation working cane and cattle farm, where the smell of fresh‑cut cane, the hum of farm life, and the shimmer of the Clarence River set the tone for your stay. Your adventure begins at the entrance, marked by “Rusty,” our old sugarcane harvester — a true piece of local history and a favourite photo stop. The winding driveway leads you through the paddocks, past different cane varieties and grazing horses and cattle. The front horse paddock will soon become our upgraded camp kitchen and guest area, and we’re excited to keep improving the space while staying true to the farm’s heritage. Life on the Farm Days here follow the rhythm of the land and the river. Wander through the cane, taste sweet juice straight from the stalk, and see how sugarcane is grown and harvested. Enjoy bike riding, walking trails, quiet fishing spots, and kayaking or canoeing straight from the property. The Ashby Creek swimming hole offers a calm, sheltered place for a refreshing dip. Life on the River This part of the Clarence is famous for water skiing, boating, and long, glassy stretches perfect for exploring. The fishing here is excellent, with calm water and plenty of great spots right from the property. We often boat across to Maclean for supplies, giving guests a real taste of river life. The sunsets here are something else — short, stunning bursts of colour that light up the whole river and paddocks. As the sun drops, the sky turns gold, pink, and deep orange, and the Clarence reflects it all like glass. It’s a quiet, peaceful moment where everything slows down and the whole farm glows. Exploring the Clarence Valley There’s plenty to do nearby — enjoy a meal at the Harwood Hotel, stop for morning tea on Chatsworth Island, or join in local favourites like the Maclean Cane Harvest Festival, Maclean Highland Gathering, Yamba, Iluka and Brooms head famous beaches and the Grafton Races. The Clarence Valley is full of character, history, and country charm. This is a place for people who love the outdoors, appreciate real farm life, and want a mix of adventure and tranquillity. Whether you’re here to fish, explore, learn, or simply breathe out, the farm gives you a genuine Northern Rivers experience.

This peaceful riverfront campsite sits at the very end of an island in the Clarence Valley, on a 123‑acre working sugar cane and cattle farm. With wide‑open views, abundant wildlife, and plenty of space between sites, it’s an ideal place to unwind and enjoy the quiet of the river. Please keep in mind this is a working farm, so you may see day‑to‑day activity around the property. The campsite is best suited to off‑grid setups, and a courtesy rustic amenities block is available for guests while a new one is being built. It includes a bush‑style porta‑loo and a gas‑heated camp shower, with water collected from the tap at the campsite. Guests have generous space at each riverside site and easy access to activities. Complimentary kayaks (Life jackets are to be worn), fishing rods,. You’re welcome to explore the property, wander through nature, and even take a fresh stalk of sugar cane to try. The herb garden and seasonal orchard are also available for guests to enjoy respectfully. Dolphins, ducks, stingrays, fish, crabs, and birdlife are seen regularly, and the sunrises and sunsets are a highlight. The river is perfect for boating, waterskiing, fishing, or simply relaxing by the water. Well‑behaved dogs (maximum two per site) are welcome, but must be friendly with other campers and the free‑range chooks. Each campsite includes a fire pit and allows one vehicle and one form of accommodation, with extra parking available nearby on the property. Located just 20–25 minutes from Yamba, Maclean, and Iluka, and around an hour from Coffs Harbour, Grafton, and Ballina, the property offers both seclusion and convenience. Check‑in is from 12 pm and check‑out is 11 am due to insurance requirements. Extensions can be booked online before 10:30 am if availability allows. (Please note we are upgrading amenities and including more sites in the coming months)

It’s one of our family favourites, and once you arrive, you’ll see why. The lagoon offers an easy kayak launch point, perfect for paddling out into the Clarence for fishing, exploring, or simply drifting along the calm water. With plenty of open space, this site is ideal for families, friends, and small groups wanting a private, relaxed getaway. 🌊 What Makes This Spot Special • Surrounded by water with a private lagoon/creek • Direct access to the Clarence River for kayaking and fishing • Spacious, private, and perfect for groups • A peaceful island‑style setting with beautiful natural views 🚙 Access & Camping Setup • 4WD access only – you’ll need to cross the flood wall to reach the site • Suitable for 4x4 campers, tents, rooftop tents, swags, and high‑clearance 4x4 caravans • Off‑grid camping only – please bring everything you need and take everything with you • Well‑behaved dogs welcome A rustic toilet and shower are available at the main camp area if needed. 🌾 Things to Know Across the river is the main road into Ashby, so you may hear the occasional vehicle or voice drifting over the water. One‑of‑a‑Kind PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A RELATIVELY NEW SITE - IT IS CURRENTLY NOT GRASSED OVER. It's our family favourite site but we have opened it to public. Set on a quiet island where Ashby Creek/Channel meets the Clarence River, this campsite has a calm, easygoing energy that makes people instantly slow down. The creek feels more like a gentle river — wide, glassy, and perfect for kayaking at sunrise, casting a line, or just drifting the afternoon away. Camped between the water and cane fields you’ll see the sugar cane fields, glowing gold in the late light and rustling softly when the breeze comes through. It adds this beautiful, classic Northern Rivers feel — a mix of water, cane, and open sky that’s hard to beat. You may hear the occasional car or voice from the Ashby road on the far bank, but it’s distant and softened by the water. Most guests say it just reminds them they’re tucked away on their own little island, with the world happening somewhere else. This spot is ideal for a larger camping group, with space for up to two campers to spread out comfortably. A great campsite and a great host, very tidy campsite with friendly host, dogs and chooks, a great location for our activities in Maclean and close to Yamba for other activities then return to the peaceful campsite to watch the sunset and light the camp fire, we would definitely return

Awesome spot right on the river with easy access to boat ramps and surrounding towns. The Sharstle is the perfect set up for a fishing camp or for a family group to enjoy the local area.. Also Squiggles is a friendly host who's readily available if you need anything. We had a great time, thanks!

Great few days away at this easy to find, private camping spot right on the water. The fishing was good, even though it was mostly catfish and a few decent bream. We left the flathead for someone else to catch! 😁 There’s a kayak on site to use, plus a fire pit. Just message Squiggles and he’ll even deliver the firewood. Great spot, great setup and we’ll definitely be back again! 👍

Peaceful, friendly place and grassed area was good. Plenty of space for everyone not too cramped at all for a long weekend. Would highly recommend. Only 25mins into Yamba. Seen Dolphins right out the front of camp.

Great location to unwind. Great facilities, kayak, fishing and very clean toilet and shower. Will definitely go back. Lots of campers with dogs and with that comes dog mess, perhaps a note that they clean up after their dogs, aside from that awesome

Great location, easy stop over not far off the main highway and only 25min into the main streets of Yamba. Steve is a character, has some good yarns and more than happy to help/accommodate. Beautiful spot, will stay again👌 Dolphins jumping right in front of our camp.🥰

We had a lovely stay here! It’s a beautiful camp spot, overlooking the river and cane fields, the perfect place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The family were super welcoming and friendly, making us feel right at home, their visiting grandkids and our kids fished together and enjoyed the swing. Only away a night but feels like we’ve had a proper holiday! Highly recommend!

We really enjoyed a couple of nights next to the river. Steve was a very friendly host and has a beautiful place. We even saw dolphins in the river. It didn’t bother us, but there is a little traffic noise and light from the road across the river.

This was a great stay. Relatively flat block close to the farmhouse. Right up against the river on a high bank. Gets cold and windy for an hour or two in the afternoon but it settles down pretty quickly. Having the portaloo was amazing for certain occasions and there was a tap there for water. The fishing was terrible but it might be user error lol. Squiggles was a great bloke who was super helpful and dropped off more than enough chopped wood for me. His dogs were lovely and friendly and would come around when he was home. But they were really well behaved and sweet. I apologized for my dogs being off lead - they get tangled up constantly and knock all the things over, and they are super well behaved and stay basically up my butt constantly so he didn’t mind. They really enjoyed the little walks and the space to catch a ball. They also enjoyed seeing a chicken for the first time. The stars of a night time were really beautiful. I sent a couple of messages before hand which didn’t get a response but it seems squiggles is a very busy man, tending to his beautiful farm, and honestly it was super easy to find just using my maps. Great roads in too for my 2wd campervan. Mozzies were pretty brutal the first night when I failed to put the screen up- user error again. I would absolutely go back to this Hipcamp. Thanks for having us.

Little Lagoon Camp Site 1
We stayed for 1 night on our way through Brisbane to Sydney and boy did we wish it could have been longer. From the time we arrived we first met Squiggles who was working in one of the cane fields and wasn’t it lucky we did as he not only showed us to the place we should park our caravan but in fact jumped in the car to demonstrate his reverse super skills to place us in the ultimate position. From there we had the most relaxing evening sitting on the river, even throwing a line in. But come the morning we found ourselves in a bit more mischief when we took a wrong turn into a field (completely our fault for not following the simplest of instructions) but once again Squiggles to the rescue. Jumped in and reversed us out and comments “Barely a Challenge”. Overall a fantastic stay and would definitely recommend and will be back. Hats off to Squiggles for all your help, hospitality and stories of the property.. Steve and Marlinda.

Squiggles was a fantastic host. Very friendly and welcoming. The shower was clean and accessible, the toilet was spotless. Steven offered his experiences and shared stories about his family history and farming life. He allows you to access fresh drinking water from his tap! He has beautiful animals who come and hang during the stay. I went kayaking with the kayaks supplied (i wont quit my day job, im not very skilled in kayaking i found out 😂). I would totally recommend this camp-site to anyone who loves water, scenic views and an open field. If you want to fish there are endless areas to throw a line in! Dont bother buying fire wood on your way here. You can get it from steven, much cheaper, more and better quality! Will definitely come back again! Thank you for hosting us on your beautiful property and allowing me to hang with your animals! Ruby, Blue and Harriet are perfect!

You could not want for a better host than Squiggles. He has thought of, and provided, everything you might want during your stay. He is more than happy to help you settle in, give you tips about fishing off the bank, and even the best way to start a fire in the case of some fellow campers when we were there. We stayed at the River Views site camping right on the bank. The fishing was pretty good, the aspect was great, the atmosphere was great, the space between camp sites was ample...we will definitely be going back. Larry, Brendan and family.

Ashy island is a beautiful place and I had a great time the only downside is you do see and hear traffic from across the channel ( from my site there are other sites that would be better) every site comes with a fire pit a crab pot and a kayak which made for an enjoyable time

We stayed at Steven’s Campground for one night, but after arriving and experiencing how peaceful and beautiful the place was, we knew we had to stay another night! The campground is right by the river, with beautiful scenery and plenty of space. Each campsite has its own fire pit, and the toilets and shower facilities were clean and really well maintained, with both hot and cold showers available. The complimentary kayaks were an added bonus and we had so much fun getting out on the water. Overall, it was such a relaxing and enjoyable stay. We’ll definitely be back! Highly recommend Steven’s Campground if you’re looking for a peaceful spot to switch off and enjoy nature. 🌿🔥🛶
