Buxton Bush Retreat is a privately owned parcel of 17 acres located 7 kilometers (6 minute drive) from the quaint seaside village of Buxton.
The front 5 acres is 'home' to Kerrie and Brian, their two puppies (Jazz and Jaxi) and two cats (Bangers and Mash).
The remainder of the property (about 12 acres) comprises of flat, well grassed areas and natural bushland.
There are eight(8) well maintained, large, flat camping areas and each has its own fire pit. An initial supply of firewood will be provided.
There is no water or power throughout these camping areas, hence they are only suitable for "fully self contained" motor homes and caravans.
Apart from humans, dogs and cats, the property is inhabited by kangaroos and a variety of birdlife.
The small township of Buxton is home to a mixture of permanent residents and holiday homes. There is one general store which sells most consumables, including alcohol. They also serve up meals every Wednesday. Buxton has a great little boat ramp on the Isis River which provides easy access for river fishing or to the Coral Sea for ocean fishing.
So, if you're looking for a clean, comfortable QUIET and relaxing campsite with not too many people around then Buxton Bush Retreat many be just the place for you. No 'midges' or sand flies or dirt/sand camping sites .... all sites are flat and fully grassed and maintained.

For your convenience, our well-equipped camp kitchen includes a fridge, toaster, kettle, electric frypan, and microwave, along with all the necessary cutlery and crockery. Please remember to clean up after using the kitchen to keep it welcoming for everyone.
In the kitchen area you will also find a pool table and dart board and arcade game for your use.
If you choose to bring your horse you will find stabling or yards under Extras as begin your booking. The cost can be seen as you view the sites. The stables are rubber floored, meaning you use minimal sawdust therefore minimal dust. They are equipped with automatic waterers and feed bins. The yards are separated so that the horses can't reach each other from one yard to the other. Please ensure these areas are cleaned before you leave. There are rakes and wheelbarrows provided near the arena and at the end of the stables for your convenience.

Feel free to put on some music and have a few drinks by the campfire, but we want our farm to be a place where our animals and our guests feel safe and relaxed, so we do not accommodate noisy parties.

For the bigger vans we have sites up on top of the property
overlooking the Burnett with just a short walk down to the water.
There are NO Ammenities available so own toilet is a MUST!
Bring your fishing rods, kayaks and walking shoes.
There's some great fishing here including barramundi, perch, yellow belly mullet, gar - and plenty of catfish to keep the kids entertained!

We also have the most magnificent sunrises and sunsets here, with beautiful birdlife including hawks and water eagles. Great for bird watching and photography!
All campsites have access to the water unless we are advised per booking.

Such a fantastic spot. We were fortunate to have the place to ourselves, but to be fair, it’s so well set up that the more the merrier!
Pull the van up, roll out the awning, a private deck, fantastic birdlife, very very serene. We managed to spot 14 different species of bird, there were many more!
Andrew was a great host and genuinely appreciative of our stay. It’s becoming a very popular spot. An absolute recommendation.

Although it was brief for us, we absolutely loved camping at Buxton Bush Retreat. We arrived later than we hoped we would and Brian was more than accomodating, welcoming and didn’t make us feel like an inconvenience at all. Beautiful cozy spot not far off the HWY and very spacious camp sites. We wished we could have stayed longer!

Brilliant. Andrew and Fiona are so welcoming and friendly. The farm itself has an orchard of macadamias and a beautiful view around the little dams. Woodgate is 15 mins away and Childers is about the same. Fantastic location! We will be back.

We had a fantastic stay at Buxton Bush Retreat. It was the perfect place to relax, with spacious campsites, beautiful bush surrounds and a peaceful atmosphere.
The property is well maintained, the hosts are welcoming, and it was the ideal base for us while picking up our new truck. It made this milestone even more special.

Great spot to hide away from almost everything. Half way between Childers and Woodgate. We had the place to ourselves so it was very quiet. There are four timber decks timber decks suitable for caravans and each one has a pretty good view of the Lilly pond (lake).

Loved camping here, so private and quiet. Flat grassy and well maintained sites, exactly as described on Hipcamp . Feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere. Brian supplied us with a very generous amount of kindling & great firewood. Had lots of visits from Jaxi. Even our pooch was super relaxed. Thanks Brian. See you again soon.

Buxton Bush Retreat is a magnificent place to stay. Beautifully maintained, with loads of space between the sites. Large stretches of grass, with thoughtful stands of trees for privacy. We loved the peace and surroundings so much! Thank you, Brian.

Friendly and helpful owner...not crowded...a dam and little creek to explore with kayaks provided. Firewood for sale.

2 nights at Wide Bay Getaway
Great spot! Caretakers are very friendly and made us feel right at home. Loved all the decorative touches around the campground and the bar is a wonderful touch! There is a nice walk connected to the site that was good for the dogs, plus a fenced off-leash area.
