T.J Wilson We have 3 remote sites and 3 dispersed sites and the property is six kilometers from Dalgety township which is situated on the “Snowy River” NSW. We are located 30 minutes drive south east of Jindabyne and 40 minutes drive south west of Cooma. There is a flush toilet and fresh drinking water is available at our dispersed sites. Caravans can easily be filled up via garden hose and if you are staying on one of the remote sites this can be done easily prior to settling in. We have a mowed loop track giving easy access from each site to stroll to the top of the hill, walk the dog or enjoy the 360 degree views. Take a picnic in the evening or just a glass of wine and watch the sunset from the top of the hill. After dark, relax and toast some marshmallows over the fire pit and discuss what you are going to do the next day. The land was originally once a part of "Marranumbla Homestead". I have called it home since 1995 and now share it with my partner Phillip, our son, Danish the Whippet, Murphy the Malshi, Myonie the Moodle and Finley the cat. The house yard only had 2 trees when I bought it and the house built originally in 1980 still needed completing on the inside. I have worked hard to create an extensive garden in a sometimes harsh environment. It's our peaceful part of the "Snowy Monaro", the property being 155 acres in total. A great place to wander and breath in the fresh air. In Dalgety township you can have a meal and catch up with a local at the "Buckley's Crossing Hotel" or take a walk around the show ground, town and along the river reserve where you can have a swim and relax on the riverbank and view the historic Dalgety Bridge circa 1888 across the Snowy River. Then come back in the evening to look for platypus when they come out to play. Visit the local 'Snowy Vineyard and Microbrewery' incorporating the 'Dalgety Brewing Company' situated approximately 10km north of the town on the Snowy River or have lunch at 'Tuscany in Dalgety' 2km to the west of town. Take a trip to Jindabyne which is half an hours drive to the west, walk round the lake, visit the 'Jindabyne Brewery', great food, beer, cider and wine or the many other restaurants and cafes in town. Spend some time at the 'Snowy Region Visitor Centre' and the 'Gaden Trout Hatchery' or catch your own trout in the lake or at the 'Eucumbene Trout Farm'. Travel beyond into the mountains and Kosciusko National Park to Thredbo, Perisher Valley and Charlottes Pass. Explore the many walks in the national park including the walk to the top of Mt Kosciusko. Visit the 'Wild Brumby Distillery' enjoy some European fare and locally crafted Schnapps, Gin, Vodka or Gluhwein. Take a day trip through Adaminaby to 'Yarrangobilly Caves and Thermal Pool' in the northern end of Kosciusko National Park, picnic, swim and tour the caves. Visit the "Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre and Café in Cooma and learn the history of the scheme. The Centre houses a comprehensive exhibition hall including an extensive photographic collection, models, hands-on exhibits and a one of a kind immersive theatre. You will find information about the Scheme such as engineering, the environment, the National Electricity Market, history, water management and power generation. Make it your base camp while enjoying all that the winter season has to offer and lets not forget the skiing and snow boarding of course. The annual Dalgety Show is held on the first Sunday in March every year and did you know that Dalgety was one of the sites considered for our country's capital. SETTING UP CAMP: Please be mindful of where you choose to set up your camp. While we endeavour to keep the sites as safe as possible, some hazards include; trees and limbs falling, snakes and thistles. TRACK CONDITION The track to the campsite is bumpy and needs to be driven slowly, we have had a 22ft caravan towed by a 100 series set up here with no troubles. FIREARMS: as per Hipcamps insurance policy, no firearms are to be used on the property. We understand that State Forest attracts hunting, which we are all for, however, we ask you to respect our wishes and keep all firearms legally stored while you are on our property. Do speak to us for some local knowledge about great hunting spots! WHAT'S AROUND? BENAMBRA is a small, remote farming community 15 minutes from the property. There you will find a post office and general store, a small playground, public toilets and a great pub open for beautiful meals and cold beers Tues-Sun nights! Bimbimbi is located at the free flowing, clear beginning of the Murray River, at Tintaldra. We have 5 separate sites. Each site is for a single group, so you know you will only have yourselves in close proximity. Each site has access to the river, although The Fishing Hole, River Red Gums and The Big Bend have better access than The Willows and The Old Pump Hole. Swimming, fishing for Murray Cod, hiking along the river bank (we have 3km of frontage), bird watching, relaxing are typical things to do here. Or, if you are more adventurous, borrow our canoes and do a down river trip, or go for a longer hike up Pine Mountain in the Pine Mountain National Park. Or, bring your mountain or road bikes and do some cycling on the picturesque roads and trails. The campsites are well spaced out, with a minimum of 200 metres between the nearest two locations. In fact, it either impossible or very difficult to see anyone else at the other camp sites from your own camp site. Each camp site is accessible via its own track, so you won't have other vehicles driving past your camp site. We have a Leave No Trace policy, please take all rubbish with you. (This also means not throwing bottles, cans, bottle tops, aluminium foil and other non-biodegradable items into the camp fire.) Dogs are allowed, but please keep them under control, particularly if near cattle. Campfires are allowed only in braziers provided, when fire bans are not in place. You can gather your own firewood or purchase firewood from us (see "Extras"). Please arrive before dark if you haven't been here before. It is difficult to understand a new camp site in the dark. We provide a toilet at each location, for your convenience and the cleanliness of the camp site in general. Nothing but your human deposit and toilet paper in the toilet please. Our stay at the Bend along the Murry was great. Hosts where helpful and nice, the campground was excellent, toilet, fire pits (cooking pit and little fire for sitting around) provided where also great. You won't regret staying here.

Bimbimbi river bend is a wonderfully secluded spot on the river. Camping amongst the popler trees gave us a wonderful place to have picnics with the kids. The river flows deep enough for an adult to float with a beer down stream. While the sheltered shallows are great for kids to play in the mud with an abundance of skipping rocks Ian and his family are very welcoming with free access to and from the farm with town close by and markets on the weekends with lots of family fun. Cant wait to stay again and bring some friends as well

We loved our stay at Aroona Park at Creek Ford campsite. One of the resident Platypus greeted us each morning and late afternoon and we met a very friendly Wallaby. All in all a beautiful spot to relax by the creek, maybe catch a trout or two and enjoy the warmth of a campfire at night (with firewood delivered by the host at very reasonable price) Only recommendation would be to provide a Toilet to service all of the campsites.

We really enjoyed our stay at Aroona Park recently at the Shady Shallow campsite. Not only is it stunningly beautiful, the trickling creek and birdlife coupled with the peacefulness instantly relaxes you. We enjoyed meeting Ash and her hubby Stu and they were very helpful with local tips and directions. We were very fortunate to see platypi swimming freely in the creek - such a rare experience . There is mobile reception, albeit 2 bars on Telstra, but we were able to log on and do some emails etc. There is also some minimal TV reception for channel 2 on a normal aerial. We will be back

Ian’s camping spots The Big Bend is very large, right on the river side, the grass's area was cut and green with plenty of trees for shade, with a toilet supplied, very nice fire pit and fire wood can be supplied at a cost. We had an amazing and relaxing time Ian was attentive and was always available when we needed him Can’t wait till next time to go back with all the family Thanks Ian

We had such an amazing stay. Ian was such a great host and made us feel very welcome. The property is immaculate and equipped with everything you need including an abundance of fish to catch. Highly recommend adding some of the fresh meat on offer too. Looking forward to coming back.

I actually want to give Ian a bad review, as this place needs to be kept secret. But how could I, the site was immaculate, his welcome so relaxed, and he even helped cut some wood for the fire pit with me. We loved this place, what an amazing weekend, we will be coming back, often!!! A perfect place to relax in nature as nature meant us to be :)

Phillip and Nerridah were great hosts; we had a lovely and relaxing three night stay at Duck Downs. The views are spectacular and we loved the location. We were supplied with a fire pit and the cost of firewood was very reasonable.

Weekend Trip to Aroona Park

This was a great site for my family - 3 boys and our Belgian malinois. We had the Creek site all to ourselves, the water was clear and shallow for the kids to play in, we saw platypus, wombat holes, kangaroos, heaps of birds. We went in early September, long trek from Wagga but worth it. Reception was ok but patchy. Kids loved spot lighting at night and building with old sticks and rocks during the day. It was quiet and peaceful and the sound of the tricking creek beside our large caravan was music to our ears. If you are looking for a secluded, private and relaxing site for your family and dog, this is for you.

Where to go

Thredbo-Perisher area

This area has three mountain resorts: Thredbo, Perisher, and Charlotte Pass. Skiing, snowshoeing, and ice climbing take over in winter, and alpine hikes, mountain biking, and historic sightseeing reign supreme in spring, summer, and fall. Stay in a luxurious lodge featuring an indoor fireplace, TVs, a fully equipped kitchen, fresh bed linens, and views of Lake Jindabyne. Or opt for a charming cottage with full bathrooms, outdoor furniture to lounge on, and AC to keep cool on hot days. Tent campers and caravanners can also find multiple campgrounds offering toilets, picnic tables, and BBQ facilities.

Yarrangobilly area

The biggest highlight of this area is Yarrangobilly Caves—six lofty limestone caverns that make an unforgettable experience, whether viewed on a guided tour or explored solo. Come back above ground and warm up with a dip in the natural thermal pool. Anglers can easily drop in a line when staying in riverside campgrounds with picnic tables, BBQs, and toilets. They welcome swags, tents, camper trailers, and caravans. Or rent a guest room in a heritage home with electricity, a kitchen, full bathroom, and a lengthy porch for sipping coffee.

Lower Snowy River area

Get wet and wild on a whitewater-rafting adventure, conquer a cross-country mountain-bike tour, or head to scenic lookouts with valley views when visiting the Snowy River area. Several campgrounds are on-site and have pitches for swags, tents, and camper trailers, but bigger motorhomes need to find accommodation elsewhere. Standard amenities like picnic tables, BBQ areas, and toilets are common, but more remote campgrounds have rugged settings. Keep an eye out for wallabies, ‘roos, and emus that wander around throughout the day.

When to go

July and August have the best snowpack in Thredbo. When spring arrives in November, colourful wildflowers and fresh foliage transform the snowy landscape. Combined with slightly cooler temperatures, it’s a great season for hiking, biking, and sightseeing. The hotter summer weather makes that a prime time for getting soaked from head to toe on a whitewater-rafting tour or lounging on a lilo in the Snowy River. As autumn approaches and the temperatures cool off again, anglers can cast rods for the last time before the cold sets in.
