Our property contains the first road in and out of Colo - the original road is supported by hand built dry rock walls some of which are over 3 m high. Often referred to as convict built, but more likely built by freemen who were former convicts. The property housed the load master's residence who controlled the cargo boats that docked to collect the valley’s produce. This was then transported back down the Colo River which flows into the Hawkesbury river and leads to Broken Bay following the coastline down to Old Sydney Town. The beach diagonally across the river was landed upon by members of the First Fleet’s exploratory scouting party on the lookout for quality farm land - some of which is still in production today. Our property is on the uppermost reach of freshwater but with tidal influence. This deep water allows swimming and canoeing all year round. Our property is adjacent to the only council built canoe launching facilities on the Colo River.

There are many amazing local bush walks and plenty of fascinating history and things to do. Space for one car, tent, caravan or trailer 10m x 4m wide clear flat area with easy access next to outdoor seating. For larger vehicles book site 2. 2 minute drive to cafes and shops and town centre, bus stop is 100m, train station 800m. We are conveniently close to town. Lithgow tourism centre has plenty of information and activities to do. There are scenic lookouts, climbing, canyoning, bike trails or simply relax with great eateries and historical sites. Cooking fires are permitted when there are no RFS bans in place. Note: there is no water on the property so you will need to allow enough to ensure you have completely extinguished your fire before you depart. You may collect water from the creek. It is ok to collect fallen kindling, no chain sawing of trees. Wood is provided free of charge for small fires only. If you use the kindling please play if forward and collect for the next person. If you need more wood simply message me. There is a camping toilet with toilet paper and hand sanitizer supplied. Well behaved pets are welcome and we encourage you to keep your dog on a lead if they are likely to adventure too far from your site and disturb the local wildlife or other campers. No cats as there are many native birds. Please take all your belongings and rubbish with you when you leave. Many stories and dreamings have come from this place which guarantees to inspire your imagination as an artist, writer, poet or musician. You have access to 100 acres of bushland or enjoy a walk along Killongbutta Road which winds its way through spectacular Wiradjuri country where ancient stone quarries, corroboree sites and a warrior’s grave have been found. Platypus, water dragons and river rats all live in the river. Be prepared to share the site with wombats who have burrowed their homes into the banks. Road access to site is suitable for 2WD in dry weather. It is a short, steep drop with two tight corners not suitable for large caravans and RVs. The site has a newly constructed long drop toilet, pets are allowed and bring your own firewood to ensure you have enough as it's becoming scarce around the site. Please take all rubbish with you. Please note: Kids under 12 are free to support young families wanting to experience the bush. Please still add them to the booking as they will not be charged. What is not allowed: shooters and trappers, illegal fishing, motor bikes, quad bikes and other noisy machines! Killongbutta Road runs off Freemantle Road and is 36 kms from Bathurst. It is 40 kilometres from Orange through Gowan Road that joins Lower Lewis Ponds Road. For your information, On the Stone is a podcast and publishing studio that produces a quarterly magazine for the Freemantle Road community. We have local history to share and can always provide information about our services. A beautiful river shack for your use exclusively, including fire pit with direct access to the Hawkesbury river. Destroyed in the March and July 2022 floods, we have now re-built and are loving welcoming back our guests. Bring your caravans, tent or swag - all are welcome! Unfortunately, boats are not. Relax and enjoy the serenity whilst being only 1 hour from Sydney. We offer the site to one group only, a maximum of 20 guests. However note, we are not a place for rowdy groups and parties. Groups are welcome here to enjoy the time with their family and friends, play a little music and relax by the river. The river can get busy (which is great after the floods as it has been dead for so long) and so can the road across the river but if you are enjoying your family and friends you won't even notice! We have one basic toilet, and one river water shower available too! Please bring your own drinking water. Fires are only permitted when allowed, in the designated areas only.

Welcome to this remote piece of paradise! Rhapsody is located in Gingkin,, which is not far from Oberon NSW, about 3 hours west of Sydney. Campsites are hidden in a remote valley direct frontage to the pristine Hollanders River, adjoining the Kanangra-Boyd National Park. There are two private campsites on grassy river flats surrounded by eucalyptus forest. The sites are very secluded so you will see lots of wildlife and you're guaranteed not to see any other people! Only one group can stay at each campsite and campsites are on different parts of the river so privacy is guaranteed. In dry conditions 2WD is fine for Wallaby flat but in wet weather, 4WD is required. Platypus flat is 4wd only. You can always park at the top of the hill and walk down first if you're not sure. Dog friendly. Campfires permitted in a designated area when restrictions aren't in place. Gather your own wood from fallen timber on the way in or BYO wood. Not much firewood available on site. Both campsites can get quite cool as they are low in the valley. This is a wild and remote area. Guided remote bushwalks also available for those who are fit and adventurous. Both campsites have a pit toilets, cold shower, spring water on tap, picnic tables.. Water is sourced from a distant spring in the mountain and is gravity fed to the site by above ground pipe which heats the water during the day. There is a small area where you can get Telstra mobile reception at the cattle grid on the way into the property, but very limited mobile reception in this area. If you are on Optus or other networks you won't get any reception. There is no mobile reception at camp - perfect for disconnecting and reconnecting with nature!

We are part of the Sofala gold rush history (from the 1850s), sit back and imagine gold miners and their families camped along the banks. There are two campsites, Camp Crudine Kitchen and Camp Crudine Riverside. When you make your booking whether for 2 people or a group of family and friends the chosen campsite is all yours for the length of your stay. If you need supplies Sofala is just 8 km away, drop in and explore the town. Hill End is 28 km which is another Historic town to explore. Camp Crudine is great for kids and adults alike to have a go at panning for gold or try out the metal detector. All findings must be returned to the host, lol. Campfires must comply with the local fire restrictions and guideline and must be contained in the fire pits provided. Bonfires are not permitted at any time. We recommend campers bring their own firewood as campers are requested to source only small amounts of firewood along the riverbank. Under no circumstances are trees to be cut down. Firewood is available at the Sofala General Store. Campers are required to bring everything they need and take all rubbish when leaving. Dogs are welcome but they must be supervised and under control at all times. The owner has livestock on the property which must be respected at all times.

This is a beautiful spot! Loved exploring the river, seeing a wombat at dusk, and the morning visit from the cows. The campsite was very private and peaceful. We will definately be back.

Myself and husband loved our stay here!! We spent a day wondering the town of Lithgow and the ruins and stayed an extra night to visit the glow worm caves! Super lucky to have had the campsite to ourselves for our time there but what a beautiful place 💛 zero issues at all and we met Sally’s father who was friendly and made us feel very welcome 🥰 thank you Sally! We have already recommended you to friends and family 💛

2 nights at Watton Airstrip

I have camped several times now on Damien and Tammie's land and, as long as they will have me, I will keep coming back. What I look for, and always find at Watton Airstrip, is peace, quiet, space, connection with nature...a beautiful campsite, and very welcoming hosts to boot! Even a short stay does wonders to my soul. Thank you once more, Damien and Tammie. I hope to see you soon again.

Wonderful spot by the river. Dogs had a blast. Composting toilet means one less thing to carry. Made it in and out in a fully loaded Outback. Just need to choose the lines best suited to the lower ground clearance.

Weekend Trip to Down by the Hawkesbury - Exclusive

We just had the best weekend of camping at Down by the Hawkesbury. The site is so beautiful, and the facilities (particularly the undercover area) are excellent. The pizza oven had to change nationality for our curry night, so it could produce K & T’s amazing naan bread. Our group all had a wonderful time and we are so looking forward to our next stay at the end of the year. Thank you so much Megan and Trevor, you both made our stay so easy to arrange, and it was great when Trevor brought the dogs down to say hello. We would certainly recommend Down by the Hawkesbury to others, but please don’t book it when we want to visit!! Thanks again From our whole group.

Quiet,Clean, well maintained A wonderful relaxing space to enjoy. .Damien and Tammie are a pleasure to interact with and a response turnaround time within a hour (It has been immediate including answering questions I have) . Hi all it's a GREAT campaign experience the host is very welcoming kick back by the side of the river as the kids swim the day away then light up the camp fire 🔥 listening to the native birds there's lot's of spots to set up your camp flushing toilets cow's munching away and the farm dog is very friendly and loves to say hi highly recommend

Weekend Trip to "DeView" Colo River Valley Camping

We had a great time at this site. The highlight was wading upstream and swimming in the river - clean water and a lovely way to spend the day. The toilets were clean and well maintained. Yara was friendly and welcoming and checked in on us to see we had everything we needed, including bringing us a grate for the fire drum so we could cook over the flames. Thanks for a great weekend!

Plenty of space to pick a site without being crowded. We camped over a weekend. Flushing toilets a real treat. Kayaks on site was perfect for the kids. River was incredible for the kids, especially since most is only knee deep. They provide decent sticks for the fire pit, but if you can bring bigger pieces would recommend.

Absolutely stunning campground hidden in the middle of the suburbs So close to such a beautiful river. Lovely escape from the busy city life. With only the basics, plenty of grass and trees and the river to keep cool amazing little gem for all ages and to top it off its pet friendly for our furry friends

2 nights at Watton Airstrip

I booked The Beach site by the river but Damien talked me out of taking my VW camper van down the track as it has low clearance. I stayed at Hillside site instead with spectacular views. Thankfully the weather was great but I wouldn’t want to be there with a strong westerly blowing. I walked the 1km down to the river which was worth it. Spent 3 hrs there to myself, swimming, and chatting to the friendly horses. The highlight was watching a platypus from Deep Spot site for at least half an hour bobbing up and down feeding along the opposite bank. Damien was a lovely host 😊 Would recommend with a high clearance 4WD only.
