Shark Creek Retreat is an ongoing conservation project, where I call myself the caretaker of these beautiful wetlands. I have dedicated 77 acres of it as a wildlife sanctuary, it is a member of the Wildlife Land Trust and has joined the Land for Wildlife environmental community. HISTORY
This land is Gumbaynggirr land. Please be particularly mindful of our First Nation's long presence on this land.
In the 1800's, white men came
seeking Red Cedar, closely followed by settlers having a go at dairying; though logging
has remained this area's mainstay. This special property, despite last being selectively logged about 50 years ago, hosts many huge old-growth trees
remaining steadfast for your discovery and wonder. And many more are continuing to
grow out too.
About 35 years ago
about nine of this property's eastern-most 104 acres became part of a far larger nashi pear orchard which filled much of the flats of
this top end of the valley that you see today.
Ultimately they failed to set good commercial fruit, and the rootstocks took over.
You can see remnant rows of these trees just south of the property, from along the road. (Beware though -
they have spikes that could
puncture Caterpillar tracks!)
MORE RECENTLY extensive lantana control efforts have been undertaken as we now move into revegetating with native species and implementing a permaculture plan.
Today the property is registered with Land For Wildlife and hosts a very wide mix of native vegetation communities.

If staying longer you can go for a white water kayak in the Nymboida River only 15 min away or head the other way to discover endless National Parks that stretch from the property to Dorrigo.We welcome self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower and water. You must have your own amenities.Well behaved dogs are most welcome to join you. Although we are pet friendly, please be aware and courteous to other campers. If your pet needs to be tied up please do so.We recommend 4WDs to access the campsite. Some places can be accessed by 2WD and walk to campsite. Caravan drivers need to be competent for hilly terrain and tight access, some roads are cut into steep ground and have very little give. However Site 1 is easy access for caravans. Shark Creek Retreat is an ongoing conservation project, where I call myself the caretaker of these beautiful wetlands. I have dedicated 77 acres of it as a wildlife sanctuary, it is a member of the Wildlife Land Trust and has joined the Land for Wildlife environmental community. They must be controlled as sheep are nearby and we have an abundance of wildlife.

HISTORY
This land is Gumbaynggirr land. Please be particularly mindful of our First Nation's long presence on this land.
In the 1800's, white men came
seeking Red Cedar, closely followed by settlers having a go at dairying; though logging
has remained this area's mainstay. This special property, despite last being selectively logged about 50 years ago, hosts many huge old-growth trees
remaining steadfast for your discovery and wonder. And many more are continuing to
grow out too.
About 35 years ago
about nine of this property's eastern-most 104 acres became part of a far larger nashi pear orchard which filled much of the flats of
this top end of the valley that you see today.
Ultimately they failed to set good commercial fruit, and the rootstocks took over.
You can see remnant rows of these trees just south of the property, from along the road. (Beware though -
they have spikes that could
puncture Caterpillar tracks!)
MORE RECENTLY extensive lantana control efforts have been undertaken as we now move into revegetating with native species and implementing a permaculture plan.
Today the property is registered with Land For Wildlife and hosts a very wide mix of native vegetation communities.

We operate as a cottage industry, processing alpaca fleece & manufacturing products from it. We regularly conduct tours & maintain a small farm shop.

This camping area is elevated.Our third site is not so private but is the most central and conveniently located for exploring the creek and gaining access with big campervans. If staying longer you can go for a white water kayak in the Nymboida River only 15 min away or head the other way to discover endless National Parks that stretch from the property to Dorrigo.We welcome self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower and water. You must have your own amenities.Well behaved dogs are most welcome to join you. Although we are pet friendly, please be aware and courteous to other campers. If your pet needs to be tied up please do so.We recommend 4WDs to access the campsite. Some places can be accessed by 2WD and walk to campsite. Caravan drivers need to be competent for hilly terrain and tight access, some roads are cut into steep ground and have very little give. However Site 1 is easy access for caravans. My girlfriend and I had such a beautiful weekend away at this Hipcamp. It truly felt like our own private sanctuary. The highlight was the secluded waterfall and champagne pool; absolutely stunning and such a special place to swim, relax, and take in the surroundings. Having something so magical just a short walk from camp made the stay unforgettable.
The campsite itself was well maintained, spacious, and thoughtfully cared for, offering the perfect balance between comfort and immersion in nature.
Rob was a fantastic host, welcoming, helpful, and generous with firewood. He also provided a clear map to the waterfall, which made exploring easy and enjoyable.
The peace and quiet were exactly what we needed. Falling asleep to birdsong, insects, and the gentle sound of the breeze flowing through the trees was the perfect soundtrack to unwind.
We left feeling refreshed and grateful. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a peaceful, nature-filled escape.

Instructions were clear. Site was well kept. As we were the only ones there it was spacious although if others had come into the other 3 spots it would be different. Owner greeted us and then let us be, which is exactly what we like. It was a convenient 10 min drive into town.

What an absolutely special spot. Not only are you close to a Lovely beach and small town but the camping area is just beautiful. Adam advised us where to park, spot on as the weather was starting to get very wet! We went for a short around the area, amazing lake covered in lily pads. Loads of kangaroos! We could only do one night but will definitely stop here on our way back south later in the year! And with Hipcamp’s prices going through the roof, it was reassuring to find somewhere that hadn’t doubled in price over the last 2 years.

Amazing campgrounds , well maintained. So beautiful having a beach on a river it’s very nice. Some of the negatives tho not owners fault there are Bull Ants near bush area, I camped and had quiet a few walking around and I got stung on the hand which was not pleasant, so my advice find a more central spot in the grounds away from the bush. Also I took a tinnie boat with me it was a bad idea I managed to get the boat into the river but getting it back onto trailer was extremely difficult because it is very steep and sandy so it’s not advised , stick to a kayak. But I definitely would return just without a boat and find more central spot away from bush get away from the painful Bulldog ants

Scott's mum is an absolute delight ,thanks for the cuppa Pat , my dog is also recommending this place as Pat spoilt her rotten ❤️

I really enjoyed my stay with Mick! What a character - we had a good yarn before I settled in to my camp. It is a very quiet spot and the stars are beautiful through the tree tops. Money made from your stay goes towards Mick's conservation project around the area which I loved. It terms of amenities, it really is just a drop toilet and a potable water tank! Really all you need :):)

Great spot. We pulled in late at night for a stop over whilst heading home. Tidy toilets and easy sites to drive in and stay hitched overnight.

Beautiful spot on the river, well maintained. When I stayed there was only one other camper at the time which allowed for us to be spaced out. Set up is similar to caravan park in style which is fine when not many people there however I can imagine it could get quite busy.. lovely shaded trees, lovely views.
Toilets were well maintained and hosts were friendly! I stayed with only my dog and felt the entire time.
