Nestled right up against the escarpment at an elevation of 450m, this high-end, off-grid 40 acre property effectively offers your own private slice of Macquarie Pass National Park - amazing views, giant cedar trees, fern forests, cascading waterfalls and palms surround. It feels remote but it's only 90 min from Sydney, 30 min to Kiama and just 15 min to the shops. The property also offers the only hiking path up to the top of the escarpment for some truly amazing views. As of September 2025, many of the trails on the property have been degraded by the rains and are now challenging for 2WD cars. If you're towing or it's wet we recommend AWD or 4WD vehicles. Since this is coastal rainforest and it has been very wet, expect leeches anywhere it is damp. These are easily kept at bay with deet and or trousers tucked into socks. We're not particularly price sensitive - until all those rate rises - but we are extremely value sensitive so we set out to make your stay extremely good value for your hard earned money. Second time camping at Wombat Hollow. Loved it even more. Went for an early evening stroll this time and saw so many wombats. The bird song was gorgeous evening and morning. Camped up at the Pecan Wood camp. The view from the top of the rise is wonderful and worth being a little further from the creek. Pecan gets sun all day so perfect for cooler months. If we visit in summer we'll stay at one of the shady creek-side camps.

We are definitely coming back here! The hosts were lovely no nonsense folk … our kinda people. Clean and beautifully maintained. Right on the banks of the Shoalhaven and not too far from Nowra for the essentials. What a gorgeous place … birdsong all day and fish in the river. Bliss! It was so good we stayed an extra night. But don’t tell anyone… it’ll be our secret. Shhh.

Very large site for cars, tents people and pets. View out to southern part of the escarpment. Very well protected, shaded and cool.

Loved this campsite. Even though it was only an hour from Sydney, it really feels like you’re away from it all. The facilities are awesome and the property is beautiful. We had the camping area to ourselves for most of the weekend but even with another group there it felt very private. Great access to Sea Cliff Bridge area. My dog also loved this place. I would love to come back!

Wonderful campsite in close proximity to Princes Highway and Wollongong area. A true campsite amongst the trees it truly felt secluded and away from it all. We stayed at site 2, a short drive on the property. No issues with overhanging trees or any obstructions and was easy to drive down and turn around. Plenty of privacy and secluded from all else, the running creek is a joy to be beside. Fit pit provided, BYO firewood. Small slope to the site but not major or inconvenient. Would easily return and would be suitable for small groups of 2 or 3 to make a enjoyable camping experience.

Loved Coolendel. Great location.. off the beaten track but not too off beaten. The lady at checking was friendly and informative. We camped mid November during the week and literally had the place to ourselves. They had two amenities with hot showers which was a bonus on the first morning. But the rest of the time the fresh water of the Shoal Haven river was perfect. About 90% of sites have fire pits so make sure you bring your own fire wood. No 4G or 5G network but you could buy wifi to access communications. During the three days of camp we managed to see wallabies, kangaroos, wombats, peacocks and abundance of birds life. The stars at night were on full display. One thing I would recommend if you’re camping during the school holidays is to bring your own portable toilet or off grid shower as the amenities would be at premium use Most sites have taps you access fresh water.

We loved our weekend at Wombat Hollow. We were spoilt having the whole place to ourselves which was ideal as we were looking for quiet downtime. After checking out the whole place we realised that even if all the other camps were full, each camp is in its own secluded spot with lots of space around it and between camps so other campers would not have been a bother at all and we still would have had acres and acres to ourselves. The whole place is well maintained and signposted. Lots of helpful instructions when booking so we knew exactly what to bring and if our vehicle amd camper would be suitable. Vallance is a superb host. The camp sites are perfectly simple. Great fire pit. Sturdy benches, level ground, shade and gorgeous lanscape and wildlife all around. Stunning night skies.
