Disappointed
6 m Class A · Group trip · We booked two campsites at a very high price, especially considering there were no toilets or showers available. Unfortunately, due to it being a very busy time of year, we didn’t have much choice.
Almost one hour before arrival, we were involved in a serious car accident. Both cars were towed away, and there were children in the car. It was already a very distressing and sad situation, and we had no option but to cancel and return home, effectively cancelling our holiday.
I called the host immediately to explain what had happened. While I understand it was a busy period and that others may have been turned away, the response we received felt very cold and purely business-focused. No empathy was shown, and no partial refund was offered, despite the exceptional circumstances.
We weren’t expecting special treatment, but a little understanding or compassion would have gone a long way in such a difficult situation. Given that Hipcamp often promotes ideas of nature, community, and human connection, this experience was disappointing. Sadly, it felt like everything was about money rather than people.
