Beachside camping spots, surfing, and dolphin-watching within an hour of Sydney.
If youâre taking a road trip along the Grand Pacific Drive, the seaside town of Coledale makes a great spot to stop along New South Wales South Coast. Follow the coastal Lawrence Hargrave Drive across the magnificent Sea Cliff Bridge to reach the golden sands and rocky headlands of Coledale Beach, about an hour south of Sydney. There are two beaches to choose from in town, with consistent surf, coastal fishing, patrolled swimming areas, and the chance to see dolphins and migrating humpback whales. Check in to the beachfront camping reserve operated by the Coledale Surf Life Saving Club, where thereâs a choice of powered and unpowered sites, and facilities including hot showers, electric BBQs, and drinking water. Youâll also find motorhome and caravan parks, Hipcamps, and private camping areas in and around neighbouring Wollongongâ, Lake Illawarraâ, and the nearby Dharawal and Royal National Parks.
