Once a much larger property, we purchased our 120-acre (50-hectare) in 1984 as a means to live sustainably and raise a family. Living in our shed whilst we prepared the garden, installed watering infrastructure, and built our house, which we finally moved into when our daughter was 6 months old in 1990. Over the ensuing years, we have continued to increase biodiversity on the property and set it up so we can live sustainably, harvesting our own water, electricity, and food. If you're lucky, you could get a hamper of our product when there is sufficient in season. With the increased biodiversity, you will find that in the mornings and evenings, kangaroos and wallabies will visit with the occasional echidna, rabbi,t and hare; and to forget the large array of bird life - that may wake you early in the morning with the songs. This campsite is set on lovely grassy open areas interspersed with gum trees. The sunrise looks spectacular near the dam, when the trees give off a lovely glow. The main paddock has a Geodome, a shared space for relaxing in. With all that space, you can park and set up camp anywhere in the paddock. There is access to drinking water, toilets, and a hot shower. Around the dome is a fire pit, drinking water, and a camp kitchen. The fire pit features an Argentinian BBQ and a plate for cooking. The kitchen has plates, cups, cutlery, and other bits and pieces for you to use. We also allow your pets to stay on-site; this includes horses. With over 600 acres of Australian bush, our property is ideal for campers that want their own space. We are completely off-grid (no wifi to distract you) and we run off tank water (for this reason showers are only available for two hours in the evening). There are multiple camp sites on the property - some are close to hot showers and toilets, others are within a short walking distance. Some sites are perfect for our self sufficient campers who might want a nice private location and don't need access to amenities. There are two shared camp kitchen areas (with pizza ovens and bbqs). We have two amenities blocks with toilets and hot showers and two further compost toilets located at other sites. Campfires are permitted in designated areas (check with us when booking) and firewood can be added to your booking - we do require at least 24 hours notice if you want wood. There are lots of old-style games for the kids such as cricket, tennis, playground, bikes available, a swim in the dam and general country running around fun! Unfortunately we no longer have our flying fox, but there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy. We have some great bush walking areas where you might be lucky enough to see our resident wombats or our breeding pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles. The property dates back to the early 1900s and there are numerous historic buildings on the property. The earliest is a wooden slab hut that was built around the beginning of the 19th century - the Goulburn Penny Post newspaper, dated 3 December 1904 lines the walls of the hut. It also has a two shearing stand wooden shed built by Marcus Dawe in 1922. Bush camping on 100 acres in the Tinderry Range at about 1400 metres altitude. Seclusion and adventure all within an hour of Canberra and twenty minutes from Michelago and the Monaro highway. Big skies and dark nights for star-gazing are likely; or perhaps you'll be nestled in cloud; or hidden by falling snow. There are numerous tracks with spectacular views around the property for bush walking or mountain bike riding. The tracks are surrounded by sub-alpine flora and fauna (such as wallaby's, wombats, lyrebirds) and nearby in the Tinderry Nature Reserve. Tinderry Range is a rugged range east of the Monaro highway accessed mostly through Michelago or an hour and a half from Braidwood (when dirt roads are reasonable). The range is only around 70km away from the coast, thus enabling a sea mist to often roll over us in the late afternoon. Summer temperatures are a pleasant 6 degrees or so cooler than nearby Canberra. You may choose between a number of options for camping depending on your camping desires and set up. There are numerous tracks around our property or nearby Tinderry Nature Reserve. You may go exploring to find the springs or choose to stick to easy walking tracks that follow the contours. We will provide a map. Tracks are also great for mountain bike riding and exploring the unusual mix of sub-alpine, montane and coastal flora and fauna. There is numerous species of bird life and regular calls from lyre birds. This area has fascinating history with the largest eucalyptus distillery in Australia until the late 1950's and very popular with a number of bushrangers such as the Clarke Brothers who had numerous hideouts. No amenities. BYO camping toilet and leave no trace. Campfires (except on fire ban days or when we advise otherwise) are okay--usually recommended. Normally dry firewood is easy to find, or purchase some from us if you prefer. The exception is the bell tent glamping option,' Tin Can Ridge Glamping' which has a toilet included as well as firewood and shortly its own wood stove! Some campsites are best accessed by 4WD, or on foot. or gain access to the glamping tent with us escorting you. Camp lightly. No hunting. Do nothing illegal. Take all waste with you. Respect the land, the wildlife and people. Keep the peace. Enjoy.

Stay on our 2 acre block on the edge of a small village in the southern tablelands of NSW. We are conveniently close to the Hume Highway, with a level grassed site with scattered gum trees providing shade. Travellers between Melbourne and Sydney can easily pull in off the highway for a quick set up for the night, then be back on the road the next morning. Alternatively, our site is an excellent base to stay for a few days while you explore Canberra and surrounds, as it is an hour to the Nation’s capital. Sure, we can hear the highway and occasional trains as they go past on the main line but there are also plenty of bird calls and some neighbouring wallabies. There is a small creek on the boundary of the camping block that attracts birds but is not suitable for swimming. We have town water available for campers and toilet facilities are a short 400m walk to the middle of the village. The nearest dump point is 15 minutes away in the town of Yass. Winters are excellent for small fires for cooking and then putting another log on to enjoy the rest of the evening under the stars. We have dedicated fire pits or you can use your own. As an added bonus, there are metal sculptures dotted around the block created by the host. Each site is spacious enough for up to 4 vans if you are travelling in a group. It is easy to navigate through the trees and use it as a drive through.

There is also Eagle Hawke pub, which is very popular. There are numerous wineries nearby including Gundog at Gundaroo and all of the many Murrumbateman wineries. Water refill and waste disposal is available at Queanbeyan showground. The Mulligans Flat Reserve, about 10 minutes away, is a real first in Australia, given that a very large area has been set aside near Canberra to foster wildlife. A walk through the reserve is well worth while. Check it out. None of the above should be missed if you visit our area. Situated on a farm, our property has flat terrain in most areas. Unfortunately we no longer have our flying fox, but there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy. We have some great bush walking areas where you might be lucky enough to see our resident wombats or our breeding pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles. The property dates back to the early 1900s and there are numerous historic buildings on the property. The earliest is a wooden slab hut that was built around the beginning of the 19th century - the Goulburn Penny Post newspaper, dated 3 December 1904 lines the walls of the hut. It also has a two shearing stand wooden shed built by Marcus Dawe in 1922. Big skies and dark nights for star-gazing are likely; or perhaps you'll be nestled in cloud; or hidden by falling snow. There are numerous tracks with spectacular views around the property for bush walking or mountain bike riding. The tracks are surrounded by sub-alpine flora and fauna (such as wallaby's, wombats, lyrebirds) and nearby in the Tinderry Nature Reserve. Tinderry Range is a rugged range east of the Monaro highway accessed mostly through Michelago or an hour and a half from Braidwood (when dirt roads are reasonable). The range is only around 70km away from the coast, thus enabling a sea mist to often roll over us in the late afternoon. Summer temperatures are a pleasant 6 degrees or so cooler than nearby Canberra. You may choose between a number of options for camping depending on your camping desires and set up. There are numerous tracks around our property or nearby Tinderry Nature Reserve. You may go exploring to find the springs or choose to stick to easy walking tracks that follow the contours. We will provide a map. Tracks are also great for mountain bike riding and exploring the unusual mix of sub-alpine, montane and coastal flora and fauna. There is numerous species of bird life and regular calls from lyre birds. This area has fascinating history with the largest eucalyptus distillery in Australia until the late 1950's and very popular with a number of bushrangers such as the Clarke Brothers who had numerous hideouts. No amenities. BYO camping toilet and leave no trace. Campfires (except on fire ban days or when we advise otherwise) are okay--usually recommended. Normally dry firewood is easy to find, or purchase some from us if you prefer. The exception is the bell tent glamping option,' Tin Can Ridge Glamping' which has a toilet included as well as firewood and shortly its own wood stove! Some campsites are best accessed by 4WD, or on foot. or gain access to the glamping tent with us escorting you. Camp lightly. No hunting. Do nothing illegal. Take all waste with you. Alternatively, our site is an excellent base to stay for a few days while you explore Canberra and surrounds, as it is an hour to the Nation’s capital. Sure, we can hear the highway and occasional trains as they go past on the main line but there are also plenty of bird calls and some neighbouring wallabies. There is a small creek on the boundary of the camping block that attracts birds but is not suitable for swimming. We have town water available for campers and toilet facilities are a short 400m walk to the middle of the village. The nearest dump point is 15 minutes away in the town of Yass. Winters are excellent for small fires for cooking and then putting another log on to enjoy the rest of the evening under the stars. We have dedicated fire pits or you can use your own. As an added bonus, there are metal sculptures dotted around the block created by the host. Each site is spacious enough for up to 4 vans if you are travelling in a group. It is easy to navigate through the trees and use it as a drive through.

Bush camping on 100 acres in the Tinderry Range at about 1400 metres altitude. Seclusion and adventure all within an hour of Canberra and twenty minutes from Michelago and the Monaro highway. Big skies and dark nights for star-gazing are likely; or perhaps you'll be nestled in cloud; or hidden by falling snow. There are numerous tracks with spectacular views around the property for bush walking or mountain bike riding. The tracks are surrounded by sub-alpine flora and fauna (such as wallaby's, wombats, lyrebirds) and nearby in the Tinderry Nature Reserve. Tinderry Range is a rugged range east of the Monaro highway accessed mostly through Michelago or an hour and a half from Braidwood (when dirt roads are reasonable). The range is only around 70km away from the coast, thus enabling a sea mist to often roll over us in the late afternoon. Summer temperatures are a pleasant 6 degrees or so cooler than nearby Canberra. You may choose between a number of options for camping depending on your camping desires and set up. There are numerous tracks around our property or nearby Tinderry Nature Reserve. You may go exploring to find the springs or choose to stick to easy walking tracks that follow the contours. We will provide a map. Tracks are also great for mountain bike riding and exploring the unusual mix of sub-alpine, montane and coastal flora and fauna. There is numerous species of bird life and regular calls from lyre birds. This area has fascinating history with the largest eucalyptus distillery in Australia until the late 1950's and very popular with a number of bushrangers such as the Clarke Brothers who had numerous hideouts. No amenities. BYO camping toilet and leave no trace. Campfires (except on fire ban days or when we advise otherwise) are okay--usually recommended. Normally dry firewood is easy to find, or purchase some from us if you prefer. The exception is the bell tent glamping option,' Tin Can Ridge Glamping' which has a toilet included as well as firewood and shortly its own wood stove! Some campsites are best accessed by 4WD, or on foot. or gain access to the glamping tent with us escorting you. Camp lightly. No hunting. Do nothing illegal. Take all waste with you. Respect the land, the wildlife and people. Keep the peace. Enjoy.

Our property is located in Tumut Plains at a nursery that specialises in African Violets. Stay on our 2 acre block on the edge of a small village in the southern tablelands of NSW. We are conveniently close to the Hume Highway, with a level grassed site with scattered gum trees providing shade. Travellers between Melbourne and Sydney can easily pull in off the highway for a quick set up for the night, then be back on the road the next morning. Alternatively, our site is an excellent base to stay for a few days while you explore Canberra and surrounds, as it is an hour to the Nation’s capital. Sure, we can hear the highway and occasional trains as they go past on the main line but there are also plenty of bird calls and some neighbouring wallabies. There is a small creek on the boundary of the camping block that attracts birds but is not suitable for swimming. We have town water available for campers and toilet facilities are a short 400m walk to the middle of the village. The nearest dump point is 15 minutes away in the town of Yass. Winters are excellent for small fires for cooking and then putting another log on to enjoy the rest of the evening under the stars. We have dedicated fire pits or you can use your own. As an added bonus, there are metal sculptures dotted around the block created by the host. Each site is spacious enough for up to 4 vans if you are travelling in a group. It is easy to navigate through the trees and use it as a drive through.

Sutton village (5 kms away) has a toilet block and shower amenities available. A beautiful quiet location to stay. Close to a lot of amenities, such as Bakery, Wineries, Gundaroo, Mulligan's Flat Reserve and Gunghalin shops. Sutton has a world class bakery, we recommend chicken and leek or pepper steak pies. Gundaroo has an old world pub with local wines and food. The old police station at Gundaroo has been converted to a gourmet pizza restaurant, there is also an excellent restaurant named Grazing. There is also Eagle Hawke pub, which is very popular. There are numerous wineries nearby including Gundog at Gundaroo and all of the many Murrumbateman wineries. Water refill and waste disposal is available at Queanbeyan showground. The Mulligans Flat Reserve, about 10 minutes away, is a real first in Australia, given that a very large area has been set aside near Canberra to foster wildlife. This is a working farm approx 70% cleared remainder bush. Sub Alpine so the temperature can change quickly and snow, the area has quite a verity of bird and animals. There are currently 5 paddocks available no set campsites you pick your own site near mountain stream or in the bush also available is a self-contained cottage (view our separate listing for Calabash Manager's Cottage). This has 4 bedrooms bathroom, 3 rooms have queen size and 1 has a single, kitchen, heating when required is a slow combustion wood stove very relaxing. There are no amenities for campers, please BYO and leave no trace. There is plenty of branches and wood on the ground for a fire but please no fires when fire bans in place. Dogs are OK but as we are a sheep property they must be well controlled and on a leash and not left to roam. We prefer smaller dogs. Campfires permitted when restrictions aren't in place. Plenty of firewood around to gather your own. If you want it cut it for you then buy some as an extra and add it to your order. Please check with the host on arrival regarding local fire conditions. Beautiful spot right by the dam. Flat sites everywhere to choose from. The road into the property was sealed and Dans directions spot on. The gate was a little tight for our 19 foot van but easy if you swing wide as you curve around toward the gateway. We spent 3 nights and loved the wildlife and listening to the frogs at night.

This was our third stay here in 3 years and it still is our favourite camping spot. Wayne as always was a great host. It's so tranquil with the great grassy camp sites combined with the river the bird life the cattle the views of the surrounding area and maybe a trout or two make it just so relaxing. The new toilets were a added bonus. It's only a 10 minute drive Into town for supplies and entertainment. We will be back again next year. Rob

The lake view and the peaceful ambiance at this site are a calming tonic to blow away the city stresses. Lots of space, fairly level sites, relaxing vibe, quiet spot away from any traffic. And plenty of Roos to entertain you. As with most Hipcamps, it's a bit pricey considering there is no power or drinking water, but keep in mind it is not far to Canberra and surrounds, so there is convenience to consider.
