A Fantastic Stay After Hiking

The experience was more satisfying what I expected: a nice host, a super clean shared toilet, a well equipped kitchen, a comfy firepit warming your feet, and a starry night! I saw a meteor in the wonderful moment. Ilama is so adorable! 🥰 Thank Jacqui.

Farm Camping at Shepherds Rest

Shepherds Rest campsite was an excellent place to stay. The views were absolutely stunning, making it a relaxing and memorable experience. The amenities were clean, well-maintained, and very functional. It was also great fun to pat the friendly goats and even a llama during our stay. Jacqui, the host, was fantastic, who provided clear, helpful information and ensuring everything ran smoothly. I would highly recommend staying here.

Shepherds Rest Hipcamp in Tarago is a great, no-fuss spot to switch off for a weekend. The setting is beautiful—rolling hills, big skies, and complete privacy with no other campers around. The animals are a highlight, especially the friendly goats and the llama, which add a lot of character to the stay. It’s simple camping, but that’s the appeal. Quiet, peaceful, and an easy getaway from Canberra.

Farm accommodation and camping

My service dog and I had such a great time. Jacqui made us feel welcome and we were able to stroll around the farm looking at the animals. A peaceful place to stay and beautiful views. We stayed in the barn accommodation and looking forward to returning and camping at one of the campsites. I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys being out of the hustle and bustle of the city but close enough if you wanted to visit towns nearby.

I had a wonderful time at Shepherds Rest. The camping site was just what I needed and the kitchen and bathroom facilities are amazing. Meeting the goats and llama was a treat and Jacquie is kind and generous.

Jacqui accommodated all of our needs, inclusive of offering us free of charge a room to shelter from the elements after the heavy rain and high winds we encountered last week. The animals are friendly and approachable and her dogs are lovely. Highly recommended!

My partner and I enjoyed our stay at this site. Jacqui was friendly and helpful. Her animals were the sweetest, her llama, goats and dogs all loved pets! The site was spacious with a beautiful view. The amenities were plentiful, which included a kitchen, flush toilets and even hot showers.

My friend and I both stayed at Jackie’s farm called the Shepherd. We stayed in what’s called the barn and I have everything to say other than a complaint. This was one of my most memorable experiences and Jackie was a blessed human and that was what stuck out to us. We had amazing sleeps, the mornings were unforgettable, and the sunset with the friendly llama and goats was memory in itself. Everything was super clear and easy directions, not too far from Canberra either. everything was super aesthetic, clean, and well maintained, especially the wooden hut as a bathroom. We will be back Jacqui!!!!

Jacqui was a fantastic host, polite and accommodating. We had a wonderful stay and reconnected with the land from kisses from the Lama, meeting some cute goats to star gazing throughout the night, getting lost in the millions of stars.

We loved the view from the campsite and the vicinity to Bungendore and Braidwood. The facilities (kitchen and toilet) are very well kept and there is also a shower 😊 Jacqui was lovely and introduced us to her animals, we had a great stay overall!

Doggie Heaven

I spent New Year’s Eve in the Barn Room with my dog to escape the fireworks and chaos in my beachside town. It was perfect! The massive paddock was well fenced and mowed and my dog loved running around with Jacqui’s two dogs. Such peace of mind knowing my dog could amuse herself and run free. Jacqui was incredibly helpful and hospitable. The facilities were great and I loved the rustic wooden bathhouse. Great to have wifi access and Telstra signal isn’t great, especially during peak holiday time. The sunset was spectacular and it was incredibly quiet. A beautiful peaceful place.

The Shipping Container

Jacqui is super lovely and helpful. She offered us firewood and gave us an introduction to the farm animals. The llama is super friendly and the goats are wonderful too. Beautiful for sunsets. Lots of bugs during the day and moths at night so I would recommend winter visits if you’re scared of bugs. Shopping container wasn’t super luxurious but comfy enough for a couple nights and the shared amenities were well decorated and cosy.

It was a beautifully spacious place for our two pups to run around freely, as the property was fenced (if not the individual camping areas). The vibe was quiet and calm - exactly what we wanted for our first time ever camping as a family. Jacqui was very responsive to any queries, and replied quickly over the app.

We loved our stay at in both the barn room and shipping containers. Clean and well equipped kitchen and shared bathroom. Scenic with great views and surrounds. Even with a group of campers in tents sharing the facilities it worked out well. Family friendly.

A lovely escape

The Shipping Container

Lovely spot on a beautiful landscape; just the quiet escaped that we needed. The grass was nicely mown on arrival and enjoyed all the additional blankets to keep warm.
