Once a much larger property, we purchased our 120-acre (50-hectare) in 1984 as a means to live sustainably and raise a family. Living in our shed whilst we prepared the garden, installed watering infrastructure, and built our house, which we finally moved into when our daughter was 6 months old in 1990. Over the ensuing years, we have continued to increase biodiversity on the property and set it up so we can live sustainably, harvesting our own water, electricity, and food. If you're lucky, you could get a hamper of our product when there is sufficient in season. With the increased biodiversity, you will find that in the mornings and evenings, kangaroos and wallabies will visit with the occasional echidna, rabbi,t and hare; and to forget the large array of bird life - that may wake you early in the morning with the songs. This campsite is set on lovely grassy open areas interspersed with gum trees. The sunrise looks spectacular near the dam, when the trees give off a lovely glow. The main paddock has a Geodome, a shared space for relaxing in. With all that space, you can park and set up camp anywhere in the paddock. There is access to drinking water, toilets, and a hot shower. Around the dome is a fire pit, drinking water, and a camp kitchen. The fire pit features an Argentinian BBQ and a plate for cooking. The kitchen has plates, cups, cutlery, and other bits and pieces for you to use. We also allow your pets to stay on-site; this includes horses. This campsite is set on lovely grassy open areas interspersed with gum trees. The sunrise looks spectacular near the dam, when the trees give off a lovely glow. Pitch your tent or park your camper in one of four paddocks. The Paddocks are relatively flat and easy to traverse as well as divided to make your event more manageable. Once a much larger property, we purchased our 120 acre (50 hectare) in 1984 as a means to live sustainably and raise a family.    Over the ensuing years, we have continued to repair and increase the biodiversity on the property and set it up so we can live sustainably, harvesting our water, electricity, and food.   With the increased biodiversity you will find that in the mornings and evenings kangaroos and wallabies will visit with the occasional echidna, rabbit, and hare; and not to forget the large array of bird life - that may wake you early in the morning with the songs.  We also have some friendly magpies whom we rescued who will chat away to you. The main paddock has a Geodome, a shared space for relaxing in.  Drinking water is provided via a 33000 litres distributed in two tanks and feeding multiple taps located in the paddocks.   We will have our purpose-installed Ablutions block with 3 Composting toilets and a hot shower. We run on the leave-no-trace principles so our preference is that you take home what you bring but we can arrange for collection at an additional cost (council charges us to use the Dump). Around the dome is a firepit, and a camp kitchen with a two 6-burner BBQ and sink (remember to be eco-friendly washing liquid). The kitchen has plates, cups, cutlery, and other bits and pieces for you to use. The firepit features an Argentinian BBQ and a plate for cooking as well.  NOTE: fire pits cannot be used during fire bans without a permit. If you don't have a tent, you can hire one of two onsite campers (refer to Peaceful and Spacious Campervan) each with a very comfortable queen size bed including linen.  The area is interesting geologically with quartz, slate, granite, and more. The Gundaroo area has several great places to eat and drink, with live music at some on the weekends. Gundaroo Pub, Cork Street Pizzas, Grazing, and Gundog Cellars are great places within Gundaroo and its surroundings. Pets are allowed however please check so we can control the numbers. Your pet must be on a leash/under control at all times due to the wildlife that frequents the paddock. Please message us to discuss your pet before booking. If you want exclusive use of the paddocks please book via  Group Bush Retreat - Exclusive use.

Exclusive use means no other campers can book. Please read the rules before booking. Exclusive use also provides you with access to the two vans onsite, and the Dome, as well as the general camping and BBQs. Pitch your tent in one of four paddocks off the central main paddock, where you can organise your event. The Paddocks are relatively flat and easy to traverse as well as divided to make your event more manageable. Once a much larger property, we purchased our 120-acre (50-hectare) in 1984 as a means to live sustainably and raise a family. Over the ensuing years, we have continued to repair and increase the biodiversity on the property and set it up so we can live sustainably, harvesting our own water, electricity, and food. With the increased biodiversity, you will find that in the mornings and evenings kangaroos and wallabies will visit with the occasional echidna, rabbit, and hare; and not to forget the large array of bird life - that may wake you early in the morning with the songs. With all that space, you can park and set up camp anywhere in several paddocks. Drinking water is available via multiple taps located in the paddocks. We now have sufficient composting toilet facilities to support up to 50 people for a few days. We run on the "leave no trace" principles, so our preference is that you take home what you brin,g but we can arrange for collection at an additional cost (council charges us to use the Dump). Cooking facilities are provided by BBQs. Other facilities such as kitchenet can be booked to make your stay more comfortable. NOTE: Fire pits cannot be used during fire bans without a permit. And must be booked at other times. For those booking the entire paddock, you have an option to use the 2 x onside camper, which has a very comfy queen-size bed. NOTE: NO AMPLIFIED MUSIC AFTER 10 PM ON WEEKDAYS AND 12 AM ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS.

We were caravaning and had the place to ourselves. There is quite a lot of space and paddocks are mown with a number of options as to where to camp. If we hadn't already setup we would have moved to a spot nearer the BBQ and toilet block. Lovely country feel. Enjoyed it.

Excellent place for first camp. If you don’t have any equipment just book the campervan and pack some food. Margot literally has everything available at the place.

Great place and warm customer servi

The place is stunning! Very spacious, toilets and showers were in absolutely good conditions. Margot and her husband Mike welcomed us very warmly. They were checking on us for our arrival and even offered extra blankets for the cold night. I would recommend this place very much. Clear indications and feel welcomed is all we need to have lovely experience.

Peaceful and Spacious Campervan
It was a wonderful experience staying two nights in the van. It protected us from a cold rainy winter night. It was supposed to be feels like minus 1 degree night but we felt warm enough with extra blankets provided by Margot. My two kids made an unforgettable memory of sleeping in a van, cooking on campfire and running down the hill all day in peaceful surroundings. Loved it.

Group Bush Retreat - Exclusive use
Margot's site is absolutely incredible. I booked full use of the site for my 30th birthday celebrations and we were so stoked with how great the site was! The natural setting is lovely, and the campsite features make for such an easy and comfortable stay. The undercover cooking area with two huge bbqs and gas burner made cooking for 25 a breeze. We appreciated the well labeled and readily available drinking water, and cookware and utensils also. The cosy dome with all its lovely blankets and soft furnishings was a wonderful reprieve from the brisk country weather. The two toilets were clean and in a handy spot. While we didn't end up using the shearer's shed (the weather outside was a natural fridge), that area was also incredibly well set up and both functional and stylish. We opted for the firepit, firewood and gazebo and these were all set up by the lovely host Margot. We had two dogs also join our trip who had a great time! Organising a multi-day celebration for a group of 25 meant I had a lot of questions but Margot was an excellent host who was patient and prompt with my many questions in the lead up to the event. We had a wonderful stay, despite chilly and drizzly weather, and I would highly recommend!

Lovely little spot. Margot was kind enough to meet us after dark and let us have the fenced paddock so our doggo could have a safe off-leash run. Only spent the night, but the place looked great in the morning sun. Toilet/shower block were really good as well.

Group Bush Retreat - Exclusive use
Margot was an incredible host and the site exceeded expectations. Having access to the dome and the two additional bbq's under cover with sink and drinking water supply was fabulous! The wood supply and fire pit was perfect and she was accommodating at all times. Nothing was a problem! Margot ensured the two toilets and hot water shower were clean each day and was considerate when coming to see us at the camp site. There was so much space and we would not hesitate to recommend her property for a small or large group. It is so well maintained and the additional seating and tables made it so much easier for us to set up. Thanks Margot for a great Easter weekend. See you next time!

Maddara Farm was a peaceful and well appointed place to camp. Abundant bird life, good facilities (camp kitchen, toilet, shower) and lots of space to be well away from others. Convenient location not too far from Canberra. Great views from some spots.

Margot is very welcoming and cool! Great communication The property is a lovely example of remote NSW/ACT country, only 45min drive from Canberra. Beautiful views from the hill, especially during sunrise/sunset. The roads are all in good condition. Saw lots of wildlife, friendly birds, and a squirrel glider!! Best composting toilet I’ve ever used. The night lights throughout the property made it easy to find amenities. Awesome gas burner and stoves, as well as a deep dishwashing sink! The lights above these facilities are awesome 10/10 The dome is a cool place to hang out Instructions were clear and easy to follow Drinking water was easily accessible throughout the property! Struggled with the shower We’ll definitely be back !

Margot was super friendly and accommodating of my dog and I, giving us the dog paddock to camp in so the dog could roam around freely. Lovely location, important points faintly illuminated with lovely little lanterns, access to very clean and well looked after amenities - toilets and a hot shower, and potable water at multiple locations. Thank you so much for having us and we will gladly be back for a longer stay!

Camping at Maddara was a pleasant experience. Margot was inviting and informative when you first arrive at the gate. She provided a detailed outline of the layout and activities within her farm. The land itself was huge with various areas to camp and amenities provided such as grills, showers, toilets and running water. We particularly enjoyed hanging out with Harry the magpie and had a pleasant experience walking around as it provided a true outback feeling.

Great little spot for a safe and happy camp, it's a shared but large site. Option to book the whole site out if there's a group of you. Lots of birds to see and a dusk visit from some kangaroos. Shower and toilets clean. Lovely view from the top of the hill. Margot was great to communicate with.

Such a beautiful and peaceful property to set up camp and relax for the night. Margot was lovely and very helpful. Very clean and fresh amenities. We enjoyed hanging out in the dome and watching the Roos while we had our morning coffee. Nice, safe and welcoming spot for the doggos to have a sniff and run around too.

Nice big farm to camp under the trees and stars. Great facilities and Margot was great to communicate with, meeting us when we arrived and showing us around. Good spot to stop along the way on a big drive. There is some gravel road just before the property. Would recommend, was a relaxing camp site.
