Ludington State Park
Explore the quiet shorelines of a Great Lake from this Michigan gem.
This popular state park sits on the shores of Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake. The park offers 18 miles of hiking trails across 5,300 acres of land. The Big Sable River provides miles of calm waterway for canoeing, kayaking, and tubing.
Hamlin Lake is particularly popular among fishermen. Here you'll find solid populations of pike, perch, bass, and bluegill. The park provides a boat launch that lets you fish from your own craft. Alternatively, you can head to the Sable River Boardwalk. This area sees a lot of fishing action during the salmon run in the fall.
If you're looking for a good nature hike, try the Island Trail. This path goes up the shoreline of Hamlin Lake. It's a good area for checking out the area's wildlife. Otters, bald eagles, turtles, and muskrats all make their homes around here.
