Named for its proximity to the Rock River and the place where pioneers once forded it (Rockford), Rock Cut State Park is a welcoming home to many birds, mammals and human visitors. On any given visit here, you may encounter deer, fox, muskrat, woodchuck, beaver opossum, raccoon and squirrel.

Pierce Lake (162 acres) is used mainly for fishing, ice fishing and ice skating. 50-acre Olson Lake has become a popular swimming spot. The trail system in the park is pretty extensive with plenty of room for hiking (40 miles), mountain biking (23 miles) and horseback riding (14 miles). There are magnificent displays of wildflowers (over 100 species) each spring and summer with some impressive hardwood tree foliage in autumn.
