Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area
Gorgeous mountain scenery and hot summer days make Silverwood Lake a perfect weekend getaway.
Silverwood Lake is a popular oasis for residents of Los Angeles and San Bernardino. That's both a blessing and a curse. The throngs know that the swim beaches, picnic spots, camping and boating opportunities are fantastic. It also means the lake could get a bit crowded from April to October.
Please note that state officials will inspect your boat for standing water and quagga mussels.
The crowds are well worth it. There's plenty of room at this large reservoir to dip your toes or your line in. Hiking trails take you to the surrounding forest land and mountains. You can take a short day hike or start a backpacking adventure here. The best picnic spots are accessible only by boat, bring your own or hire an outfitter and go water skiing or wakeboarding. Bring a bicycle to check out the dynamic mountain biking trails.
