Property owner of Otter Space, Peter!
Short little hike along the Klamath.
Look closely - what do you see? Peter likes to imagine a profile view of a Native American chief. I agree. I also think it looks like a reverse Blackhawks logo.
The river is usually dried out in the summer so you can totally hike down it!
A dried out river becomes a long stretch of rocky beach.

Exploring and camping in and around the numerous state parks and reserves that surround Eureka is the perfect way to experience the redwood forests that dominate the landscape of Humboldt County. Starting south of town, backpackers can spend a few days hiking the Lost Coast Trail, a designated National Recreation Trail. Also south of Eureka is Humboldt Redwoods State Park, home to the largest expanse of ancient redwoods in the world. There are 250 campsites spread over three different campgrounds in the park, so there’s no shortage of spots to set up camp. Heading north, you’ll find Redwoods National and State Park, where there are four developed campgrounds, or pick up a permit and do some backcountry hiking and camping. Those interested in camping near the ocean should check out Patricks Point State Park and it’s world-class tide pools, only 30 miles north of Eureka. And those looking for something off the beaten path can explore the variety of private options available, including tipis, yurts and family farms, which offer a cozy and unique camping experience. No matter where you go, the redwoods are sure to make memorable company on your camping trip to Eureka.

Johan and Liza's place is super close to Applegate Lake, so we took one of many turnouts along the road to dip our toes in. It was refreshing on a hot day.
