Intro: Hi! I'm currently living in Philadelphia but lived in NYC for ten years. Before that, I lived abroad in Tokyo, Japan and Stockholm, Sweden. I have traveled extensively but in the last five years have discovered the great outdoors and love it!
I had an amazing time here. Thanks, Arvo! It is remote and rustic and very unique. Arvo has built this magical place and it is just right for a real retreat. The views are unbelievable and the memories are unforgettable. If you are into sustainable building methods and off grid living, this is the place for you. I came here solo and there was just the right mix of privacy and availability—you just have to ask, and if they’re not around, look around! It’s a big place with many buildings. I’m definitely planning to come back and wish I could have stayed longer.
The nearest town for groceries, etc is Chama, 30 min away. Bring your food and drink before you arrive and pack out your trash. It’s like camping but in a beautiful comfortable efficiency with a luxurious view. The temps were warm inside due to his building method—the thick walls were warm to the touch and emitting a lot of heat stored from the day. Bring a cook stove and fuel for cooking.
As for the directions which say take a right after the second house on the right to go up a hill— the road does not look like it’s going up a hill at that point but yes, that’s the correct turn.
Beautiful sunsets and wonderful hosts! They were super welcoming and kind. I loved the camper and it was super cozy and comfy. If you go, please give Mowgli the cat some love for me. She’s the sweetest. Lizzie the dog is also a cutie. There are also goats, sheep and cows roaming free. I am a female solo traveler and it felt safe and secure. It was my first hipcamp experience and I loved it! Thank you, Abe and Morgan!
