We, as a family, had a wonderful time stargazing and watching our daughter have an absolute blast fishing. She
caught 8 small bass and 2 little sunfish. Made our day! We saw a handsome 8-point buck (or better) and a beautiful Blue Herron too! So grateful for our Hipcamp experiences!! Thanks Juan. Oh yeah! Apple Maps was pinpoint accurate for us and Waze app ended/was off a bit with the actual GPS location. ;)
Past trip
The Horseshoe on the Colorado
in Butterfly Colorado River Valley, TexasThe Hipcamp site is a wonderful spot and the owners are gracious, responsive hosts.
The major cause of concern are the neighbors adjacent to the property. The shared fence needs repairs.
The neighbors own at least 6 dogs; the black, unneutered Great Dane is aggressive and territorial and crosses the fence multiple times, into the campsite on the Hipcamp owner's property.
The neighbor was at work and couldn't be reached. The host, called animal control, they set up a trap but, did not capture the dog. The neighbor eventually comes home apologizes to us and even witnesses his Great Dane trespass and bark at us. The neighbor puts the dog up for a couple of hours in his house and then lets him back out. The rest of the evening is okay, no more issues other than the neighbors are being a little loud but, we continue our fun. Then right before midnight I hear a tractor and he has moved a spotlight that illuminates his field pointed directly across from our tent. We are too tired at this point and it too late; we go to sleep. We wake up the next morning and right at 7am Hank Williams Jr. music is blaring from an outdoor audio system. The neighbor starts up the John Deer tractor and proceeds to begin mowing the field next to us. Then specifically targets the fence line where our tent is close to and two other young guys are riding their dirt bikes circling the property. Then the fence line. We were packed and gone by 8am.
Past trip
in 3 Dry Wells Ranch, TexasResponsive and gracious host. The main campsite is one of the best and ideal layouts we have experienced. The spring fed creek is beautiful and crystal clear. We will have to come back to explore the other side of the creek/hilltop view of Wimberley. William provides a very detailed map of his property - another bonus!
Past trip
in River Grove Campground, TexasPerfect local spot to get some R&R from the big city life. Responsive and gracious host. Our trip will always be remembered and we hope to return soon. We spotted our first Kingfisher diving multiple times into the river. It was awesome! Wildlife is abundant, coyotes galore and owls. Fishing was great and all the firewood one would need. Super grateful!

This is the first time our family has ever returned to any Hipcamp sites we have camped at thus far - It has everything we love. Primitive, private, river frontage, wildlife, and not to far from home. We all kept talking about how much fun we had and how much we all wanted to come back again. We are so appreciative of Hipcamp and the generosity from hosts sharing such magical places with us/others!!

âI go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order." - John Burroughs
Our family had a wonderful two nights stay amongst the East Texas Pines. The hosts were warm and welcomed us upon arrival. They even thoughtfully provided a pile of firewood and lighter fluid to get us started. It was the perfect reset button we needed from city life and to get back into the slower, rhythmic groove of nature. The meditative, babbling creek was an added bonus to this site. Highly recommend giving this place a try.

Oxbow Paradise was exactly what our family was looking for and hoping to experience. Private, primitive, and fun! My daughter practically spent all day in the river being groomed by the minnows and loved it. It was a little challenging accessing the river with the clay mud squishing through your toes and loosing your sandal. Be prepared, but well worth it. The evening time was also my favorite as the cicadas retired and the crickets and frogs made a smooth transition with their overwhelmingly loud performance. Our puppy wanted to retreat to the tent or van because it was so loud! It was very reminiscent of my childhood and enjoyed hearing it settle into a beautiful, harmonic serenade that lullued us to sleep. Highly recommend this place!
Past trip
in Rio Bravo Ranch, TexasEverything a camper needs and the soul desires in this breathtaking camping destination. You can explore 1200 acres of enchanting desert landscape and rest enjoying the 360 degree views of mountains that nestle this campsite with the most stunning, cotton candy colored skies and orange sunsets. We were able to observe a few lizards, a jackrabbit, a mule deer, a road runner, other native birds and greeted in the mornings with coyotes howling in the far background while preparing breakfast. We elected to ommit campfires in the evening time due to high gusts of wind and did need to anchor our tents with a few rocks.
Gracious hosts, thougthful ammentities, and wonderfully laid out. Would definitely return!
Past trip
in Seco Ridge Campgrounds, TexasIf you are seeking seclusion and a quiet getaway in nature then look no further. Site #5 is a primitive site that is private and tucked away from the more communal style camping sites that is offered on this property. There is an outhouse, picnic table, tire swing, and a clear covered utility trailer with a charming twin bed for star gazing. There is a fire ring for cooking with a grill and a clever, tall metal cover with holes (seen in the pictures) for your actual campfire. There is no need to bring any firewood, Woody has plenty. Woody makes you feel welcomed and reassures you if you need anything to just give him a holler. Wonderful experience, we plan on returning!
Mindy hasn't gone on any trips yet.
Hipcamp Hosts can leave an optional review of their Hipcampers after the trip is completed. This is where those reviews from Hipcamp Hosts will appear.

Hilleetla
in Hilleetla, TexasAlissa and her husband let us stay on their gorgeous property while they were away for Thanksgiving Holiday. This campsite exceeded our expectations! Their house sits in the center of the property, leaving the entire east side of the land to pick a campsite. (Front to back) All the animals are in a fenced in area behind the house that stretches out to the West and around to front Westside that accomadates another lake in the front. We selected our site by an acre sized lake (towards the back) to appreciate the water and the surrounding trees. Their three dogs were super friendly and Bobbi ended up keeping us the most company in our camp. He kept vigilant watch over us through the night and reminded us of our older dog. So sweet. If you are looking for a great place to escape from city life and reconnect with Mother Nature in peaceful setting, this hits all the notes! Alissa left us firewood and with more to spare up by the house. We would definitely come back and recommend to others. Hope this was helpful to all and happy camping! Thank you again Alissa! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
