A magical little mountain retreat
Before we even arrived at her home, Cathy was already the most gracious and helpful host I've ever met. She was available every time I messaged her and responded quickly to help in planning the perfect little getaway. She's full of knowledge on the area, suggestions for things to do, and so much kindness.
When I arrived at the property I noticed how much charm it has right away. As Cathy mentions in the listing, the driveway is an adventure on its own, but I found it easy to make it up with my Ford Escape. Cathy guided us into a parking spot right next to the house that gave us easy access to the little pathway leading to the cabin. She provided us with a wagon to carry our supplies down (and even offered her four-wheeler if we had anything big) so we loaded everything up and headed down to the cabin. It's a very short and easy walk, so no fear whatsoever, you don't need to put on hiking shoes to get there. Cathy walked us through all of the amenities, showed us where the different parts of the property were, talked to us a bit about the process of building the cabin and what she does with the rescue, and then left us to explore and get settled.
She went above and beyond in so many ways. From bringing us a dog run so that we didn't have to have our pup on a leash the entire time and a jug of water for him so we didn't have to use ours, to bringing us fresh eggs from her chickens, a hammock, a grill, extra covers when it got a bit chilly, you name it. Cathy provided the most wonderful experience for us and it's so clear how much love she has for her property and the area around her. My only regret is not being able to spend more time there, but fortunately for me, it's a close drive and I'm already planning a trip back.
The little town of Copperhill nearby is a gem as well. Before our arrival, we went fly fishing on the Toccoa River, and on our way out of town we stopped by the fly fishing shop (Toccoa River Outfitters) and Yellowbird Coffee Shop and everybody we encountered was full of southern charm and hospitality just like you'd expect in this part of the state. I think it would be hard to meet a stranger in this area.
Cathy, thank you so much for your hospitality, your knowledge, and for sharing your home with us. We had the best time and can't wait to come back. :)
