A good place to stop on the edge of Gila National Forest. Andy, the host, is welcoming and knew a lot about the area. There's a natural creek behind the site -- when we were there it was dry, so we could walk up the creek bed and we saw so many butterflies and found lots of cool rocks.

This is an a great spot in the west Texas wilderness. Very remote, down dirt roads and rugged camping. If you like open space, you'll love this. We saw tons of wild life: deer, javelinas (wild pigs), jack rabbits, road runners. Easy check-in, you pull off the road and camp.

in Rancho Escapado, CaliforniaThis was our first hipcamp experience -- and it was better than anything I could have hoped! There was hot water and a beautiful cedar outdoor shower, the kitchen was better stocked than most apartment kitchens, the tent was super sturdy, and it came with linens. On top of all of that, Ashley was so easy going and hospitable! The site was gorgeous, filled with wild pink amaranth and -- best of all -- you can do you-pick flowers and vegetables and use fresh eggs (for a totally reasonable p. item price). We will definitely be back!
