Past trip
in Experience Heaven, OregonA gem nestled inside a monument
When we pulled down to the lake and parked David made his way down and gave us the lay of the land. There were many open sites on our regrettably too short overnight and we got to choose our site. One of the tent sites reaching out to the south. There is a bit of flexibility of setting up between the two sides of each site: the nestled into the hill flatish pad, and lake front area under a few trees right across the road. Fitting your car, tent, hammock and camp was doable as we negotiated views vs shelter.
Please note, as you're camping in a caldera the ground is mostly pumice with a bit of worn obsidian. You may want to bring a sturdier than usual ground cloth if you want to protect you tent from the rougher than usual ground.
The lake is really amazing and was fun to paddle around, there was a gentle breeze which was surprisingly good at pushing our canoe off course at times, like in most mountain lakes. The many paddle boarders didn't seem to have the same issue as our lightly loaded canoe.
In camp, trees provided great afternoon shade and the evening and morning were SO peaceful. I can't wait to return for a longer stay.
Past trip
in Dragons Gate Gardens & Wilds, WashingtonKathleen and Moz's property is such a magical and peaceful place to spend a weekend! They were kind and gracious hosts who made us feel so welcome and at ease. Kathleen especially prides herself on creating a safe and inviting nature experience for women and solo campers, and I appreciated the level of care and consideration she showed. The surrounding pines and wildflower meadows made for a beautiful environment. We enjoyed walking on the mowed trails around the property, seeing the horses in the neighboring farm, and meandering a bit through the woods nearby. Be sure to pack some bug spray as the biting flies and mosquitoes were active later in the day (Kathleen & Moz sell a very nice essential oil Bug-Off in the gift shop at the entrance, as well). We would gladly stay again!
Past trip
Magical Amphitheater Camping
in Magical Amphitheater Camping, WashingtonThe campgrounds were charming, clean and quiet. The lighting around amphitheatre was a nice touch. We'd consider coming again along with friends to take advantage of several sites next time.

Mischa hasn't gone on any trips yet.
Hipcamp Hosts can leave an optional review of their Hipcampers after the trip is completed. This is where those reviews from Hipcamp Hosts will appear.
