Best in Oregon: Finalist
Named one of the best Hipcamps to visit in 2023.
8 campsites and 2 original Mongolian Gers. The season for the camp sites is from June 1st to October 15 and the Gers are all 12 months. Pets allowed, toilets on site, campfires permitted when burn ban is not in place. This being the 4th year, things have gotten a little out of hand. So let's regergitate some things and make sure everyone understands how it is. If you aren't capable of practicing the 5 P's, then you need to book somewhere else. Proper Preperation Prevents Poor Performance. If you can't get here and have your camp set up by 8:00PM, showing respect to the other Hipcampers that are already set up and enjoying the PEACE AND QUIET, then you need to book somewhere else or don't come until the following morning. No driving down to the campsites/the lake after 8::00PM. Period. Communicate with me. If you leave Portland at 5:00 PM with the intention of spending the night in Heaven then you need to alter your plans. No more than 4 adults at each campsite. I am almost to the point of saying no BIG DOGS. If you got big dogs, my suggestion is you go book someplace else. Talk to me. It is a given they willl need to be on a tethered throughout your time in Heaven. Take them for walks along the lake, not having them run thru everyone elses camp sites. No Yappers, no barking dogs, no yippers, no pain in the butts. Why would you drive by 46 grocery stores and forget to bring ice? No music. I have changed quiet time to 9:00 PM. You need to listen to music I suggest you start a band or become a DJ. What I want folks to get out of being here, whether they are camping or staying in the Gers is just to “take a break”. Relax, appreciate, assess and just listen. I hope what you hear is the sound of life and of course all the Angels that make up this special piece of Heaven. The chipmunks, the squirrels, all the different birds, the eagles, the osprey, the fish jumping, the deer roaming, the timber martins running thru the trees, the snowshoe rabbits and the occasional black bear. Then there is the silence. The best part of “Heaven”. So, while you are here, take a deep breath, close your eyes at the appropriate moment and ask yourself, am I on the right path? Is what I am doing fulfilling me? Am I showing my family and friends how much I love them? Do I really need all that crap I got? Where do I go from here? My intention was for each one you to not just go camping, or to stay in a Mongolian Ger but to have an “Experience” that just might lead you to a more fulfilling and happier life.

"The Osprey"
A Peaceful Santuary
This was my family’s first time staying in a Ger and it was the most wonderful experience! Cozy, comfortable, with all the amenities you need. The land is beyond beautiful and peaceful. The hosts were friendly and helpful. 100% recommend!

"The Osprey"
We really loved this site. Our friends visited earlier in the year and so we had an idea of what to expect. The ger is fully wired with plenty of outlets, a microwave, small fridge, lights, a coffee pot and tea kettle. It has a very clever gray water dishwashing system you can use, and enough dishes/silverware/cookware. The pull-out bed was comfortable enough, and there are two bunk beds if you need. Plenty of blankets, but bring your own sheets as there were none. For heating there was a large propane heater and a wood stove. I had a CO2 monitor, and when we used the propane, the CO2 was up in the 3000-4000 range (normal are is around 425). The host warned us not to use it overnight and he was right: at that level you wouldn't wake up, and it's pretty toxic. We never turned it on after the first night. There's also a coleman stove presumably for use inside, but it's got the same issue, so we only used it outside. When we come the next time, we might bring an electric heater. But the wood stove worked very well, and the host has a vast store of wood available for use. Outhouse only but it's clean enough. It's so so so quiet and beautiful, and in an exploded crater so you're surrounded by amazing volcanic geology. Few, if any, planes are ever overhead. Highly recommended for a lovely getaway. The chairs and couch were very comfortable, and there are extra chairs you can take outside on the porch to just sit in and watch the stars.

"The Genghis"
Restful Retreat and Amazing Scenery
This is a fabulous place. We stayed here for the 2023 annular eclipse. The yurt is well-equipped and comfortable- everything you need. We were plenty warm at night and got amazing views. It's great to be able to walk to the lake and be a stone's throw from the park trails.

Amazing location on the lake! We had the place to ourselves. The port-o-potty was clean and all the sites were setup well. Host was welcoming.
