I am going to be in early this year because of the lack of snow. I am going in March 22nd. I have taken the block off of the Gers and the camp sites. 8 campsites and 2 original Mongolian Gers. The season for the camp sites is from June 1st to end of Sept and the Gers for 2025/2026 winter are blocked out from Nov 15/25 to May 15/26. Pets allowed, toilets on site, campfires permitted when burn ban is not in place. Now up until this year I have provided Free Firewood. I have quit doing that for a variety of reasons, the least being the cost and the work for me. I am encouraging everyone to purchase a Propane Fire Pit if you don't have one by now. I am not to the point yet of saying no big dogs. Talk to me if you think your "big dog" might not fit in. I don't like them running thru other campers sites, so just be respectful. Take them for walks along the lake.. No Yappers, no barking dogs, no pain in the butts. Why would you drive by 46 grocery stores and forget to bring ice? No loud music. I have changed quiet time to 9:00 PM. If you need to listen to the chaos/stressful music I suggest you start a band or become a DJ. What I want folks to get out of being here, whether they are camping or staying in the Gers is just to “take a break”. Relax, appreciate, assess and just listen. I hope what you hear is the sound of life and of course all the Angels that make up this special piece of Heaven. Then there is the silence. The best part of “Heaven”.

Still the same beautiful place. One thing that has not changed for sure: NO BARKING DOGS. I don't care if you bring 100 dogs, one of them barking is not going to work and I have ZERO TOLERANCE for a barking dog. You will be refunded and asked to leave, no discussion. I try to create a combination of tents, vans, CVT's, Tear Drops and small pop up campers, Class B's and for sure Camper Vans.. This is not an enviornment large Travel Trailers/Class A's. Now if you book the entire site you can pretty much configure it anyway you want and there are several bookings which will make it the th Hipcamp summer, where there are lots of RV's lined up. We like to message and discuss the circumstances surrounding your situation, how many adults, how many kids, how many dogs, where are you coming from, what time do you anticipate your arrival. The booking tells me how long you are staying. The more I know, then when I review the messages a couple of days before your arrival, the better I know where to place you. It doesn't make any difference what site you book, they are all number "6". There are fire pits at each camping site. Firewood is provided. I am asking for donations on the firewood this summer, it just costs a lot of money. There is a donation box on a tree next to the firewood pile. Fires will be allowed only in the fire pits until a fire ban is placed on the area. There are water craft available, canoe, paddle boards and kayaks. I leave it up to all of you to work out the usage. We meet and greet, I place you in the best site for your circumstances. If you need it, forgot it, ask, because I probably have it. The fishing can be excellent until it warms up. As ever year, there could end up being a fire ban on camp fires, I adhere to the Forest Service rules/fire ban if in fact it is implemented. There was no fireban last year. Late arrivals, after 9:00 are hard on me. I understand circumstances are dictated by work and a host of issues. Just try to leave sooner than later to arrive sooner than later. I am a big one for practicing the 5 P's, "Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance". Quiet time is at 9:00PM. We gave had a few instances where folks stayed up until midnight talking and watching moviesand it makes it hard on everyone else. So please help out on this. All sites are right on the beach and individually placed with trees separating most sites.. It is quite, private and a no non sense environment. Limited alcohol consumption. No smoking. No loud music. No bickering or arguing. No screaming children, screaming and playing are entirely two different things. Please don't drive in and out any more than necessary. Please unload, set up and then take your vehicle up above and back it in/park it. For the vans, CVTs, ect I realize it is not possible to take your rig up and park it. There are no warnings. You comply, act like adults, use common sense or you will be asked to leave. If you show up rowdy, under the influence you will be asked to leave immediately. When I decided to “share” this property that I happen to be fortunate enough to be one of the owners of, I had no idea the “Hipcamp” experience was going to transcend into what it has become. 8 campsites and 2 original Mongolian Gers. The season for the camp sites is from June 1st to October 15 and the Gers are all 12 months. My intention was to create an atmosphere of more than just “going camping”. I did not want to create a “glamping” type situation, not my style. I wanted to have people realize, feel, appreciate and experience what I get out of being here. To be able to live on this piece of “Heaven” has a whole host of special meanings to me. When I lived up here in a 26 ft tipi for 2 ½ years, thru 2 winters I realized that there was more meaning to life than all the wanting, thinking that more money was the answer, the constant need for more stuff, more things. I realize now that there is more to life than all of those “things”. This thinking and a huge life style change is where the book "101 Ways to Tell the World to Kiss Your Ass" came from. Now, what is most important and paramount. in my life…”is me”. That is not me being conceited, or selfish, or missing the mark. After all, what matters most is how we treat ourselves. What I want folks to get out of being here, whether they are camping or staying in the Gers is just to “take a break”. Relax, appreciate, assess and just listen. I hope what you hear is the sound of life and of course all the Angels that make up this special piece of Heaven. The chipmunks, the squirrels, all the different birds, the eagles, the osprey, the fish jumping, the deer roaming, the timber martins running thru the trees, the snowshoe rabbits and the occasional black bear. Then there is the silence. The best part of “Heaven”. So, while you are here, take a deep breath, close your eyes at the appropriate moment and ask yourself, am I on the right path? Is what I am doing fulfilling me? Am I showing my family and friends how much I love them? Do I really need all that crap I got? Where do I go from here? My intention was for each one you to not just go camping, or to stay in a Mongolian Ger but to have an “Experience” that just might lead you to a more fulfilling and happier life. If you haven’t figured it out yet, and if you are not over 40, or there abouts, life goes by in the blink of an eye. Before you know it, if you are lucky enough to live that long, you are going to be turning years old. What are you going to do with your life between today and then?

Looking forward to summer 202.  I have made some changes.  I will list them: There are only 8 sites to book for camping.  With feed back and observation, now there will be a vacant camp site pretty much between each and every one of the 8 sites.  Now, communicate via messaging when there is the need to utilize an extra site for family/friends/etc.  We can make anything with in reason and common sense work.  By taking the 10 campsites down to 8 campsites, it worked verywell so that will remain the same for the forseeable future. 80% plus of the bookings for summer 2023 will be Hipcampers returning for the 2nd/3rd/4th time.  If you look at the calendar you will see July and August are booking up fast.  June not so much and of course I don't know why September is not used more, for the weather can be very nice that month.  There were very few cancellations this past season.  I don't think there was one instance where we kept somebodys booking fee.  If there was, let me know.  I refuse to keep somebody's money for any reason. What I want folks to get out of being here, whether they are camping or staying in the Gers is just to “take a break”.  Relax, appreciate, assess and just listen.  I hope what you hear is the sound of life and of course all the Angels that make up this special piece of Heaven.  The chipmunks, the squirrels, all the different birds, the eagles, the osprey, the fish jumping, the deer roaming, the timber martins running thru the trees, the snowshoe rabbits and the occasional black bear. Looking forward to summer 2023.  I have made some changes.  I will list them: There are only 8 sites to book for camping.  With feed back and observation, now there will be a vacant camp site pretty much between each and every one of the 8 sites.  Now, communicate via messaging when there is the need to utilize an extra site for family/friends/etc.  We can make anything with in reason and common sense work.  By taking the 10 campsites down to 8 campsites, it worked verywell so that will remain the same for the forseeable future. 80% plus of the bookings for summer 2023 will be Hipcampers returning for the 2nd/3rd/4th time.  If you look at the calendar you will see July and August are booking up fast.  June not so much and of course I don't know why September is not used more, for the weather can be very nice that month.  There were very few cancellations this past season.  I don't think there was one instance where we kept somebodys booking fee.  If there was, let me know.  I refuse to keep somebody's money for any reason. One thing that has not changed: NO BARKING DOGS.  I don't care if you bring 100 dogs, one of them barking is not going to work and I have ZERO TOLERANCE for a barking dog.  You will be refunded and asked to leave, no discussion. I try to create a combination of tents, vans, CVT's, Tear Drops and small pop up campers. This is not an enviornment for Class C's/Travel Trailers/Class A's.  Now if you book the entire site you can pretty much configure it anyway you want and have several bookings which will make it the 4th Hipcamp summer, where there are lots of RV's lined up.  We like to message and discuss the circumstances surrounding your situation, how many adults, how many kids, how many dogs, where are you coming from, what time do you anticipate your arrival.  The booking tells me how long you are staying.  The more I know, then when I review the messages a couple of days before your arrival, the better I know where to place you.  It doesn't make any difference what site you book, they are all number "6". There were very few cancellations this past season.  I appreciate that and thank everyone.  If you did cancel and you didn't get a refund either thru Hipcamp or from me, please let me know. Here are some ground rules and absolutes: No barking dogs.  You can bring 100 dogs and I don't care, BUT NO BARKING DOGS. No older dogs that are overly protective.  I have been bit twice and it was both times older/protective dogs. No over the rediculous alcohol consumtion. NO SMOKING AND THAT INCLUDES NO SMOKING DOPE IN THE GERS.  I absolutely do not allow smoking anywhere on the property in the summer and if you are still a smoker than you need to buy and read my book "101 Ways to Tell the World to Kiss Your Ass" specifically Chapter 33. These are 2 Original Mongolian Gers, direct from Mongolia. They are 1st class and pristine.  I have created an enviornment below glamping and at the same time maintaining comfortablness and magic.  The listing on the Gers was voted #3 in the nation for Glamping, even though I don't consider the experience in the Gers "glamping".  They can accommodate up to 4 adults, it is best 2 adults/w or without kids.    Fall of 2021 I built decks on the front of both of them and put in windows on each side of the doors.  New carpet in The Osprey, reconfigured the furniture/kitchen area in both of them which gives much more room.   Wood stoves in each and lots of fire wood cut to size.  On the cooler mornings/evenings the Buddy Propane Heater works great. Each Ger has a single/twin bed bunk bed style.   There is a sleeper sofa/full size that can accommodate a couple easily.   No one has complained about the mattresses on the sleeper sofa, they are/were both new. There are single air mattresses available.   Reading material and lots of games of all kinds.   I am a big advocate on less is better.  So don't bring everything you own.  If you want, I can provide very nice/warm/comfortable sleeping bags/pillows.  However, you willl need to bring a queen sheet or large sleeping bag insert.    This is semi-primitive.  No running/drinking water.  There is a 5 gallon bucket of water in each Ger out of the lake with a foot pump for washing up and for washing dishes.  The cooking area includes a 2 burner propane stove top/small microwave/small counter top oven/coffee pot/tea pot/all cooking utensils and pots and pans, crockpot, waffle iron, paper plates and paper bowls, paper cups and coffee cups.  There is a BBQ available on the deck of each Ger.  Bring plenty of bottled water.  I always have plenty of bottle drinking water.   There is power to each Ger, lots of lighting.  Lots of daylight coming thru the windows on each side of the door. There is Wifi available and a land line phone in the cabin.    There is an outhouse with a lighted walk way.  No heat in the outhouse, but during the daylight hours, "What a View".   There are also always 3 Porta Pottys down at the lake a very short stroll. No shower facilities. I am a advocate of the "5 P's.  "Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance."  So think about what you are doing and plan for it. What I want folks to get out of being here, whether they are camping or staying in the Gers is just to “take a break”.  Relax, appreciate, assess and just listen.  I hope what you hear is the sound of life and of course all the Angels that make up this special piece of Heaven.  The chipmunks, the squirrels, all the different birds, the eagles, the osprey, the fish jumping, the deer roaming, the timber martins running thru the trees, the snowshoe rabbits and the occasional black bear. Then there is the silence.  The best part of “Heaven”.    So, while you are here, take a deep breath, close your eyes at the appropriate moment and ask yourself, am I on the right path?  Is what I am doing fulfilling me?  Am I showing my family and friends how much I love them?   Do I really need all that crap I got?  Where do I go from here? My intention was for each one you to not just go camping, or to stay in a Mongolian Ger, but to have an “Experience” that just might lead you to a more fulfilling and happier life. If you haven’t figured it out yet, and if you are not over 40, or there abouts, life goes by in the blink of an eye.  Before you know it, if you are lucky enough to live that long, you are going to be turning 76 years old. What are you going to do with your life between today and then?

There were very few cancellations this past season.  I appreciate that and thank everyone.  If you did cancel and you didn't get a refund either thru Hipcamp or from me, please let me know. Here are some ground rules and absolutes: No barking dogs.  You can bring 100 dogs and I don't care, BUT NO BARKING DOGS. No older dogs that are overly protective.  I have been bit twice and it was both times older/protective dogs. No over the rediculous alcohol consumtion. NO SMOKING AND THAT INCLUDES NO SMOKING DOPE IN THE GERS.  I absolutely do not allow smoking anywhere on the property in the summer and if you are still a smoker than you need to buy and read my book "101 Ways to Tell the World to Kiss Your Ass" specifically Chapter 33. These are 2 Original Mongolian Gers, direct from Mongolia. They are 1st class and pristine.  I have created an enviornment below glamping and at the same time maintaining comfortablness and magic.  The listing on the Gers was voted #3 in the nation for Glamping, even though I don't consider the experience in the Gers "glamping".  They can accommodate up to 4 adults, it is best 2 adults/w or without kids.    Fall of 2021 I built decks on the front of both of them and put in windows on each side of the doors.  New carpet in The Osprey, reconfigured the furniture/kitchen area in both of them which gives much more room.   Wood stoves in each and lots of fire wood cut to size.  On the cooler mornings/evenings the Buddy Propane Heater works great. Each Ger has a single/twin bed bunk bed style.   There is a sleeper sofa/full size that can accommodate a couple easily.   No one has complained about the mattresses on the sleeper sofa, they are/were both new. There are single air mattresses available.   Reading material and lots of games of all kinds.   I am a big advocate on less is better.  So don't bring everything you own.  If you want, I can provide very nice/warm/comfortable sleeping bags/pillows.  However, you willl need to bring a queen sheet or large sleeping bag insert.    This is semi-primitive.  No running/drinking water.  There is a 5 gallon bucket of water in each Ger out of the lake with a foot pump for washing up and for washing dishes.  The cooking area includes a 2 burner propane stove top/small microwave/small counter top oven/coffee pot/tea pot/all cooking utensils and pots and pans, crockpot, waffle iron, paper plates and paper bowls, paper cups and coffee cups.  There is a BBQ available on the deck of each Ger.  Bring plenty of bottled water.  I always have plenty of bottle drinking water.   There is power to each Ger, lots of lighting.  Lots of daylight coming thru the windows on each side of the door. There is Wifi available and a land line phone in the cabin.    There is an outhouse with a lighted walk way.  No heat in the outhouse, but during the daylight hours, "What a View".   There are also always 3 Porta Pottys down at the lake a very short stroll. No shower facilities. I am a advocate of the "5 P's.  "Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance."  So think about what you are doing and plan for it. I COVID spray after each cleaning thoroughly.   If you have any questions please message me. Also read the directions thoroughly, this is an easy place to get to. When I decided to “share” this property that I happen to be fortunate enough to be one of the owners of, I had no idea the “Hipcamp” experience was going to transcend into what it has become.  8 campsites and 2 original Mongolian Gers.  The season for the camp sites is from June 1st to October 15 and the Gers are all 12 months.    My intention was to create an atmosphere of more than just “going camping”.  I did not want to create a “glamping” type situation, not my style. I wanted to have people realize, feel, appreciate and experience what I get out of being here.  To be able to live on this piece of “Heaven” has a whole host of special meanings to me.  When I lived up here in a 26 ft tipi for 2 ½ years, thru 2 winters I realized that there was more meaning to life than all the wanting, thinking that more money was the answer, the constant need for more stuff, more things.  I realize now that there is more to life than all of those “things”.   The book I wrote "101 Ways to Tell the World to Kiss Your Ass" is an result of that thinking and life style change. We couldn’t have asked for a better camping experience. David has created such a peaceful, relaxing, and beautiful place to get away. The property was incredibly clean and well cared for, with plenty of clean porta potties conveniently located around the campground. We spent our days fishing, kayaking, exploring, and just relaxing by the water. The fishing was great, the lake was beautiful, and waking up at our campsite each morning was pretty special. David was a wonderful host, and you can tell how much care goes into making this a great experience for everyone who stays here. This place exceeded our expectations in every way. We will absolutely be back. Highly recommend!

David was such a gracious host, we had an amazing experience staying overnight in a Mongolian Ger overlooking the lake. David and his dog, Stormy, checked in on us and ensured our most comfortable stay possible! The view of the lake was breathtaking, David offered us kayaks and paddle boards to take out in the morning, which was a truly unforgettable experience. The unique Mongolian Ger provided us warmth and comfort, WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen, and a bunk bed through the windy and chilly night. Would definitely recommend!

Experience Heaven was exactly that! David was an incredible host- he checked on us asking if we needed shade or ice and then went on his way. What a great weekend sleeping right next to the water and our neighbors were not close to us at all. I would recommend this hip camp over the other campgrounds anytime! Incredibly beautiful and peaceful place. Our pup made friends with all the chipmunks and David’s dog Stormy. The yurt was rustic and comfortable and was a short walk to the lake where we fly fished in the evening. We enjoyed the gas fire in the mornings. For meals we warmed up stuff in the oven. Cooking with the propane stove and washing dishes - well we decided to avoid that. Don’t try to connect the propane to the stove inside the yurt - gas smell took a while to dissipate. Definitely would stay here again. We really lucked out finding this place after we had to cancel our HipCamp in Sisters due to the fires. This Newberry Crater area is a real gem.

I loved tent camping on davids land, it was so nice! The ground was soft and comfortable, and the water was super nice and clear. I was so happy that David had canoes and kayaks for us to use, and the land was also really close to hikes as well as a local diner! We had lots of fun, absolutely will be coming back.

The Osprey gert was a wonderful cozy place to cool our jets. The lake is right there. We paddled around in the provided canoe on the beach. Everything needed for a comfortable stay is there. Just bring food and bedding and it's relax time. David has this place dialed in. We will be back.

We absolutely loved our stay here! David was incredibly kind and welcoming - He came out to greet us with his sweet pups, which made us feel very welcome and excited to set up camp. We really appreciated the complimentary use of the boats—it made our anniversary trip even more special! The campsites are right off of the water, so we could unzip our tent each morning to the most beautiful view of the shimmering lake. We were also lucky enough to have visits from a sweet deer on two different evenings (no physical contact), which made the experience feel even more magical. Even when we were surprised by a hailstorm, David’s thoughtfulness and hospitality turned it into a memorable adventure - Grateful for his thoughtfulness in making our stay extra special! We’re already planning our next trip back and can hardly wait to return 💕

Absolutely incredible camp spot. If you are the kind of person who enjoys the peace and quiet of camping, and you appreciate nature, I’m not sure you could find a better one. Camp sites are spaced well, there are canoes, kayaks and little boats available to use—our kids had so much fun. We watched osprey hunt, a deer march through camp, and even found a little tree frog next to our tent. Butterflies were puddling all over the beach. It was “heaven” for any nature lover. Thank you David, for sharing it with us! Dog owner note: the beach is made largely of pumice and obsidian! If your dog is not used to rocky/rough terrain, or is old, it may be hard on them after a day!

Great experience … special location! Be sure to visit the Lava Lands visitor center to see just how unique your location is… essentially in the Newberry caldera! Free use of boats/ kayaks. Lots of obsidian littering beach which was quite unique.

11 out of 10 recommend this heavenly spot for tent camping. David is so kind and accommodating. So many cool spots to visit in a very close distance. A resort with a store a few miles down the road. Private little Bay of the large gorgeous Lake Paulina that gets incredible reflections & views. Everything you need is here. Kayaks, and other water craft available for use, fire pits, a cool TeePee, clean porta potties. Easy, emptied trash and recycling that is never out of reach. Firewood available onsite. This was the best camping experience I have had. Such a hidden gem.

Truly a unique and wonderful experience. Easily one of the best Hipcamps I’ve had the pleasure to stay at. Not only is the area beautiful, David is also a wonderful host. Magical snow in June

Came here three years ago, almost the same period. We are happy to be back and got crazy to deal with the weather. It was sunny during the day and cold at night from our last visit. This time is completely different. We experienced sun, snow, rain, fog, below zero celsius temperature and gusty winds. Snowing is to our surprise. Tried dipping in the lake which was absolutely cold. We set up our tent close to the porta potty which is clean and maintained. Host David and helper Nate has been really on top of everything and accommodating. We got too close to using their Tipi, since the wind is nonstop making the temperature even colder. Always love to be in this peaceful paradise. We hope to come back again with a better, clearer weather on a summer season, which is totally unpredictable nowadays. It’s still fun though.
