in Hawthorn Farm, WashingtonThis is a working, active farm community. Several people, including the host, live on site, and there is a CSA with people picking up from time to time. This is definitely our cup of tea.
Alexia and Daniel were very welcoming, and despite being very hard workers, never hesitate dto to stop and share a kind word. Previous reviews are stunningly accurate. This was a wonderful experience for my daughter's "going away campaway" before college.
The site is conveniently divided by a through-road between farm (farm!) and forest. Our site was the big one on a hill in the forest, easily adjacent to the small creek that runs through. There is an outhouse in the forest area, and several smaller sites suitable for two-person tents. By night , we were serenaded by fledgling barred owls and their parents, and during the day we got to watch titmice, black capped chickadees and at least three different species of woodpecker. Hot air balloon tours floated overhead every day.
On the farm side, you're welcome to meet and greet the animals and explore. There is another outhouse and a comfortable outside shower on the farm, as well as a kitchenette (camp stoves, pizza oven, ample sink, nice picnic table).
If you're into sustainability, whole foods and ridiculously idyllic bucolic settings, this is for you. Traditional camping activities on site would be limited to hiking and birdwatching, but this site is an easy drive to much more.
