Cowboy Room at FlipJack Ranch B&B
in FlipJack Ranch, CaliforniaThe most amazing breakfasts!
The breakfast trays every morning are so so wonderful. Everything is plated so beautifully, and it is all so delicious. I love how farm fresh the ingredients are. The room is so unique, bed is comfortable, shower head feels luxurious. Such a delight staying in the Cowboy room. And upon request, we had a lovely campfire and marshmallows + skewers waiting for us when we got back to Flipjack in the evening. Would definitely come back.
V&V Cottage
in V&V Cottage, CaliforniaCute, clean, cozy little cottage
We stayed on at V&V for two nights over Labor Day weekend. The cottage was so lovely! There is a nice table to eat breakfast at right outside the cottage and two lounging chairs perfect for reading as the sun is setting. I loved the ambiance of the place--there are strung lights that turn on at night, and a fire pit available (although we couldnât figure out how to get it together light).
The cozy little cottage includes a flushing toilet and a hot shower. The cottage was very clean. Air conditioner was very efficient, which was great, because it was around 110F when we were there. Thereâs a little kitchen area with a microwave and small fridge (including a freezer!), so you can definitely bring your own food, as long as it only requires heating up. There is a small coffee maker, and the hosts provide coffee (and tea bags and hot chocolate) along with sugar and creamer. It was really nice to have coffee in the morning.
Lake Tulloch is very close by, but even though it looks really close on a map, the south shore of the lake where you can rent boats and fish is about a forty minute drive away.
The hosts were very responsive when I messaged them with questions. Directions were very clear.
Dora-Rozi Retreat
in Dora-Rozi Retreat, CaliforniaThe Flying Pig BnB
in Windsor Family Farm, CaliforniaWonderful host; cozy space
Kim was absolutely lovely. She was attentive and friendly and asked multiple times how she could make our stay better. I had told her that the trip was for my belated birthday celebration, and she left some chocolates and flowers and a balloon for me in the cabin as a welcome. Sheâs so sweet and letâs you decide when you want her to serve you breakfast. There are so many animals and you can try feeding and petting all of them! The space is super cozy. Highly recommend!
Site 24 - Bullfrog Pond Campground
in Austin Creek State Recreation Area, CaliforniaThis campground was completely different this year from my experience last year! I went in June 2017, and the campground was wonderful. There was a lovely pond filled with bullfrogs next to our campsite, and we heard bullfrogs all night. This year, the pond was completely filled in. No bullfrogs. Perhaps that's why there was an overwhelming number of yellow jackets hovering around us the entire time we were there (August 18-19, 2018). The yellow jackets only increased in number any time we brought any food out. The bear box at site 24 was broken, and they put a quick fix with a twisted piece of metal that makes it incredibly inconvenient to lock and unlock it. We were sorely disappointed this year. It was such a shocking difference compared to last year- last year we declared it our favorite campground, but this year, my boyfriend called it "the worst camping experience." :(
Eagle's Nest Treehouse Farmstay
in Salmon Creek Ranch, CaliforniaIt's pricey to stay here, but it's an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience. This treehouse is ridiculously gorgeous and suffused with light from the windows all around. Waking up to a sunlit view of the forest is indescribable. We were so sad to leave. The bed is super comfortable- I think it's a spring with a pillowtop or maybe foam. The house creaks at night, more so if it's windy. There's a grill and campfire ring on the ground adjacent to the treehouse and a mercantile where you can buy grass fed meat, Texas style beef hot links, and duck eggs (takes cash or card).
Cowgirl Room at FlipJack Ranch B&B
in FlipJack Ranch, CaliforniaThis place was ridiculously wonderful. I almost don't want to review it because I don't want it to become too hard to book- because we're definitely coming back! The room is beautiful and super clean. The property is huge, and we didn't even have time to explore it all. The wake up tray (brought to your room at the time you request) is the perfect touch every morning, right before the most amazingly delicious breakfast you will ever have. It's crazy that there's a place like this so close to the Bay Area. A perfect place to relax and recharge!
