this site was very quiet. There are homes scattered about, but you won't notice if you are by the patch of Gambel oaks. You get a few minutes of that Sangre effect on the mountains at sunset. I really liked the drive in through the ranch lands, too.

Past trip
in Beautiful Views Tipi, Coloradogreat hiking and biking just down the road. I've always wanted to stay in a huge outfitter tent on my own mountaintop

my kind of place. I felt like I was camping in old cowboy movie. I would really like to go back.

Past trip
in Ute Lodge - At the End of the Road, ColoradoJeff L.recommends this listing.

geez, this area was really beautiful and remote. There was a really good Forest Service trail 50 yards from my tent. Moose, elk, deer, horses and hummingbirds.

Bear Mountain DGC & Forest Preserve
in Bear Mountain DGC, ColoradoJeff L.recommends this listing.

This is a great site even if you don't play disc golf. btw if you do play you pretty much have to camp here. This is a huge property. Dan has a great variety of spots to set up a tent. Lost Creek Wilderness is 10 minutes away.

I would follow the Google directions carefully and keep an eye on your mileage. Most of the roads in this area are unmarked. There are RV/ATV/off-the-grid people around. Nothing sketchy. It's a very easy drive to Eleven Mile State Park, Spinney Mountain State Park, and Tarryall from here. I love places like this. It's way different than being surrounded by forest and other campers all the time.

Rapture on the Rio

This area is rugged and wide-open. I loved it!

Loma Base Camp
in Loma Base Camp, Coloradojust 5 minutes off of I-70. Camping spots in Grand Junction, like everywhere else, can be scarce. I was perfectly happy sleeping next to Toby's horse pasture rather than bothering with some of the campgrounds in the area. Or running around trying to get a BLM spot. Loma is right down the road from 3 of coolest places ever (CO Monument, Devil's Canyon and Rabbit Valley). And such a nice family, btw.

Site 9 - Arkansas Riverbank Camp
in Arkansas Riverbank Camp, ColoradoThis is a great base camp for all of the rafting, hiking, etc that is close by. Brown National Monument is minutes away. National park hiking (my thing) is 10 minutes away. The site is really easy to get to from 285. It's set up like an RV park, but I was perfectly happy in my tent. If you do have some sort of trailer or RV these spaces are huge (I'm no expert in this area). I will go here again, I hope.

Site 3
in Hay Zee Mountain Ranch, ColoradoA nice, peaceful site. I stayed for one night, so I didn't really need to leave the camp. The property is big enough that you can stroll (not hike) around for an hour or two. Thanks for sharing your family's special camping spot.
