I donât understand why some reviewers feel so unsafe.
Yes, Terminal 4 is in an old industrial area, with lots of weird abandoned buildings. Itâs the home of the last whaling station in North America (closed in 1971). Down the road is an shuttered Navy fueling depot. Near that are some 100-year old houses that havenât been lived in for years.
So what! Where else can you set up camp on the edge of the San Francisco Bay?
Thereâs nothing unsafe about Terminal 4. No ghosts and no haunted houses. Youâre campsite is inside a locked gate, for crying out loud!
This was my second time camping at Terminal 4. Since our first visit a month ago, I can see theyâve been making improvements. While we were there this time, a contractor was going around installing signs to help people get the lay of the land. Youâll have no trouble finding your site or hiking the loop trail.
While we were at Terminal 4 enjoying temps in the 60s, our home in the south bay was roasting in 100+ degree weather. I plan to make Terminal 4 my weekend getaway whenever the weather gets crazy.
I feat this place is about to blow up on Hipcamp, so book now while you still can.

in Arber-Moore's Ranch, CaliforniaWhat a lovely place to camp. We spent 4 nights there, enjoying the easy access to both Ojai and Ventura. This Hipcamp is so close to the Ojai Valley Bike Trail, which is a great way to get around if you ride bikes.
This is now our go-to place when we visit Ventura County.

in Wine Country Camping Excursion., CaliforniaWe spent an awesome three-day weekend at this location. We loved looking out at the rolling green hills while drinking coffee in the morning. We were gone most of the daylight hours exploring Paso, but each evening we looked forward to coming back to the peace and quiet of Claire's place.
This is the first time we've Hipcamped in Paso, and Claire will be our go-to host when we come back in the future.

Noah has a bunch of great spots on Summit Road. Even though there were several other groups camping nearby, we felt like we had the whole mountain to ourselves.
While itâs easy to get up to Noahâs place in a car, a word of warning to RVers: Summit Road can be tricky for large trailers. Ours is pretty heavy, and I needed 4WD to keep moving forward on the steep gravelly sections. There are also some tight spots on the road that require careful negotiation of the turns. The road is definitely safe for an RV, but you need to be confident in your driving skills to avoid scraping your rig on a tree trunk.
That said, we will definitely come back again. Noah and his wife left a welcome note for us, along with bug spray, sunscreen, and playing cards. Noah even fetched his chainsaw so he could cut down 2 branches that were going to scrape the top of my RV as I was backing into the site.
Ye Old Saloon
in Ye Old Saloon, CaliforniaOur stay was too short
We loved staying at Ye Olde Saloon! We arrived on a pleasantly warm evening and enjoyed relaxing at the outdoor table before dinner. It was extremely quiet, and we got a great night of sleep.
The next morning we had a peaceful breakfast shaded by the trees, and before you know it, it was time to go.
Unfortunately, the site was only available for one night, so we were forced to move on. We canât wait to go back.
