Amazing views
Hipcampers say this spot has amazing views.
Big rig-friendly
Spacious, level camping well-suited for travel trailers over 40 ft long.
Best RV/van spots: Finalist
Named one of the best Hipcamps to visit in 2023.
I have owed this property for over 20 years. In the past, before I listed this property for camping, travelers would stop and ask to camp on my land. There are not many options for camping on this stretch of Hwy so I decided to offer up my place. So far guest have either loved it or hated it.

1301 4th St Sheffield TX 79781. This is not a typical RV park, RV site or camping site.  This is a 1/2-acre lot located on the edge of a small town.  A primitive site.  Please read the full description and look at the pictures to get a good idea of what this site is.  This camping site is more for folks traveling I-10 that need a cheap place to camp for the night.  ALSO, GOOGLE & APPLE MAPS ARE NOT ACCURATE IN THIS AREA! (Smith Ave WILL NOT get you to the campsite) The best route is: Take I-10 exit# 325 Take Hwy 290 South 5 miles into the town of Sheffield Turn South (right hand turn) onto Hwy 349 Two blocks down turn East (Left hand turn) onto 2nd Street Go to the end of 2nd Street then turn South (right hand turn) onto Arizona Ave Take Arizona Ave to 4th Street and turn West (right hand turn) and the campsite will be in the middle of that block (There is a sign) This site is NOT a pull through.  There is no RV pad or tent pad to setup on, you just park in the designated area, just to the right of the trees. You can setup your RV there or pitch a tent out under the trees.  (Please do not block the Electrical site located to the left of the solar panels). Do not drive in the grass areas.  This site borders two large ranches on the South and East.  It has amazing views of the mountains and some of the best dark sky in West Texas!  Very little light pollution!  Because this is a dark sky friendly site there are no lights on the signs or in the camping area so if you plan to arrive after dark be sure to view the layout of the area beforehand or have a flashlight ready.  There is a small grove of trees for shade and water on the property.    There is a public park with restrooms located by the county swimming pool on the corner of Hwy 348 & Pine St.  Contact me for anything else needed.   There are no stores or gas stations in this town.  The street around my site is a public street so expect to see the local folks out enjoying a slow evening drive.  If that worries you then this place is not for you. No need to check in or check out.  If you are interested in any local attractions contact me.  There is an art studio a mile away.  There is a historic fort a few miles away.  A shooting range about a mile away.  And there are a few GeoCache in the area. Park your vehicle or camper to the right of the trees by the Sheffield Camping sign.  You are welcome to setup a tent under the trees. The 30amp RV plug is a separate site so please do not block access to that site. (Just to the left of the solar panels).   If heavy rains are expected you may want to contact me to avoid parking in a low/flood area.

Sheffield Camping offers a simple yet peaceful retreat for travelers, with its quiet surroundings and easy access off the highway. Many guests appreciate the flat terrain and spacious layout, making it an ideal stopover for those on the road. While the campsite itself is basic, the scenic drive and potential for deer sightings add a touch of charm. A few visitors noted the lack of nearby amenities, so it's a good idea to bring what you need ahead of time.

Totally decent, would stop again. Economical, felt very safe for a solo traveler, and the number of birds in the area was beautiful to wake up to. Close to the highway.

Sheffield Camping is further off I-10 than I thought. That was my mistake. That being said, I was coming from the east on I-10. I took exit 343. The drive is 20-30 min and it is a beautiful drive down into the valley. There is a nice picnic area just before you start down. It is much closer to Sheffield if you take exit 425, just not quite as scenic. The camping spot is a dirt lot on the edge of town. The view one direction is the town, but the other is beautiful desert mountains. I was very quiet and relaxing. There is electric and water.

Perfect stop off heading from Big Bend to central Texas. Cheap and nothing fancy. Just a great, flat and safe area, to park you rig.
