John’s property is an awesome getaway and you are secluded plenty from other campers that may be visiting at the same time. Spent 3 nights and would definitely go back.

Not just a beautiful spot on the river, but a great host as well. We are going again. A clean out house and beautiful spacious campsights to enjoy. Although remote, if you find you need anything, it's a short 10 minutes drive to a store/gas station. I recommend this campsite. A great river to enjoy.

Weekend Trip to Serenity on the Saluda

My friend and I had an amazing time catching up and spending time connecting with Mother Earth. The river was amazing, and the owner gave us a great recommendation for a float down the river, we sat with our feet on the rocks looking at the beautiful nature and sunset and went back to drive off by the fire. The lot was flat, shaded and comfortable and over all the experience was awesome. Definitely hope to visit again!

2 nights at Serenity on the Saluda

This was such an amazing few days. My sister and I took our two boys (4 and 5) for their first camping trip. The tent site and view of the river was gorgeous. The site was clean and really well set up for us to have a good tent set up and plenty of room for the kids to play. Being two lone women it can always be a little scary camping alone but John was super nice, dropped our firewood off promptly, and even gave our kids some cucumbers from his garden. He was even nice enough to jump our car battery when one of the boys inevitably left the car door open. We booked the spot without direct access to the river so we could relax too but the other site had a boat entrance where we could drop in our kayaks. We spent the two days fishing, kayaking, and swimming on the rocks. It’s rare I go somewhere and say I want to come back and have this exact same experience again but we’re already checking our calendars for when we can come back to this beautiful spot for part 2. 1000/10 recommend to anyone considering this. Thank you so much for having us John. We will be back.

I loved this spot. I felt completely private and relaxed. My dogs enjoyed walks around the property and the garden. The river was muddy from rain so bathing/swimming was not an option but I enjoyed every minute.

What a beautiful and amazing place! The campsite is peaceful, clean, and surrounded by nature — the perfect escape from the busy world. Everything was well-maintained, and the atmosphere was incredibly relaxing. The owner was super helpful and welcoming, providing clear directions and support whenever we needed it. You can really feel the care that goes into this place. We had a wonderful time and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, scenic, and well-organized camping experience. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

We had the entire area to ourselves making it super private and allowed us to let our dogs run free. Easy walk to the brewery where we had dinner and drinks. Very friendly staff who welcomed our dogs in the brewery. Live music later in the night. Electric hook up was available if needed Would stay again Thank you!

Jesse was welcoming, the nights were quiet and filled with deer. The site was well maintained, considering the tall grass surrounding the site there were no ticks, the lake was visible and just a short walk through the woods. Good combo of openness and sunshine with woods and shade.

John's land was a great spot. Wide view of the river with a wonderful view of the sunrise over the trees. I highly recommend kayaking from the dam to the campsite. The rapids are fun and it's a great way to spend the day. Having a composting toilet on site was a nice touch. Overall the experience was an absolute treat and I'll likely be going back at some point.

Spacious, clean site, fantastic river view, super quiet. John is an awesome host. And the river itself is great for novice kayakers. There's very little cell service down in that valley so be prepared to be blissfully without it. Google is indeed not as accurate as it could be so here's a link to the start of the gravel road. Very pretty spot to camp for the night. Lots of pretty stars. Road traffic is louder than expected, but still nice. I couldn’t find the little graveyard, but I’m sure it was right under my nose somewhere.

We had a very relaxing weekend, despite some rain. The property is very quiet, dock access was great, Scott even caught a few fish! And we were treated to some Fireworks by the neighbors. Kevin was a great host, the welcome gift was appreciated! Overall had a great weekend camping.

Nice spot for a tent. Power to the right. 25ft cord should be good. The fire ring/grill is not in the picture but is between the post and 8.

Weekend Trip to Big Creek RV Park of Saluda SC

The property was very well maintained with beautiful craftsmanship on the custom built bathroom and shower facilities. Nice and quiet at night without any kind of noise other than the soothing sound of owls and other nightlife and rustling leaves in the wind.

The 11,400-acre reservoir is the main draw of Lake Greenwood State Park, a placid waterfront retreat in the heart of South Carolina’s Piedmont region. Embark on thrilling boating adventures (two boat ramps provide access) to Lake Greenwood’s sparkling waters filled with largemouth bass, bream, black crappie, stripers, perch, channel catfish, and more. Or spend your days exploring the lovely trails, have lunch at one of the picnic shelters next to the lake, and then go camping under the starry skies. Many of the campsites (for both tents and RVs) actually sit right on the shore.

Notable campgrounds

Best for privacy: Diana’s Loop offers one RV site in a private, wooded area.
Best for paddlers: Big Creek RV Park has several sites with waterfront access.
Best for boaters: Eagles Landing has a private beach and boat ramp.

Tips for snagging a campsite

You can reserve the park's 125 campsites in advance via the South Carolina State Parks website. Reservations are available all year round.
Most campsite reservations require at least a 2-night stay, and some locations and dates may require longer stays.
Reservations open 13 months in advance. Reservations requested less than one day before check-in must be made directly through the park.
Campsites can book up as fast, especially on summer and holiday weekends. So book your campsite as early as possible to ensure availability.

When to go

Roaring River State Park welcomes visitors year-round. However, the optimal times to visit the region are during the warm spring weather and longer days (or September to October) or early fall due to mild temperatures and the stunning foliage (March to October). Fishing is enjoyable during all four seasons at Lake Greenwood State Park. Still, summer draws the most visitors as the swimming pool is open and colorful wildflowers adorn the riverbanks.

Know before you go

Lake Greenwood State Park has an admission fee for day-use visitors, while camping fees apply separately.
Park amenities include picnic shelters, playgrounds, and a swimming area for additional recreational opportunities.
Check-in time for camping is 2pm, and check out is at noon.
Between April 1 and August 31, campers can stay a maximum of 14 nights at Lake Greenwood. After the 14th night, they must vacate the park for seven consecutive nights before returning.
