Wildflower Wanderlust

2 sites · Tents20 acres · Sturgeon Bay, WI
After purchasing the 'Feest Farm' 18 years ago I dedicated time to create an oasis of gardens and meadows that has become my personal sanctuary. My hopes are that visitors enjoy all aspects of my property as much as I do. Learn more about this land: You can choose to set up camp in the meadow or near the gardens. In the meadow you will find paths that you can stroll through throughout the property where you can you bird watch and observe Wisconsin's natural prairie and vegetation. The open field area provides more room whether it's to throw a frisbee, bask in the sun or play some competitive yard games with your family and friends. Regardless of where you set up camp, you can enjoy your morning coffee in the secret flower garden or a nightcap next to the fire under the grape covered arbor while watching the night stars. Feeling adventurous? The Ahnapee trail is an old railroad trail that is now a hiking and biking path that extends from Sturgeon Bay to Kewaunee. The Ahnapee Trail is 1.5 miles down the road. Also located within miles is the Ahnapee River, which is ideal for canoeing and kayaking.

Truly a sweet little spot where the quiet is only interrupted by the hooting of the Barred Owl, the call of the Whippoorwill, and the howls of the wolves. (And the occasional ATVs) For those caravanning with family or friends, my add-on site can be made available for the same price per night, but please contact me regarding rig size if interested. Learn more about this land: Located in the Upper Peninsula's Hiawatha Forest. Dark skies and quiet nights. Private area which is gated, gravel pad, picnic table with umbrella, pitcher pump for water, and fire pit, where you can safely leave your rig for day trips. No electric or water hook-ups. Firewood is available. Plenty of blowdown kindling laying around, help yourselves.   You are staying in the woods where bugs can be persistent at times depending on the weather. Please be prepared for this; it’s something I have no control over. Many activities here in the UP! Check out exploringthenorth.com to see all the possibilities! This is a quiet spot to get away from it all. No shooting and absolutely no fireworks allowed within the Hiawatha Forest!

The best camping near Newport State Park guide

Overview

About

Hang by the windy waters of Newport State Park. While there’s no official boat launch, nothing but your own perseverance is stopping you from taking out the canoe or kayak. It can get windy on the water, so I would leave the floppy hats at home! Explore the 30 miles of foot and bike trails, fish for a bit, and end the day with a picnic before you reluctantly head back to the real world. Winter brings trails for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and skate skiing, so don’t think you won’t be back once the weather takes a turn... for the better?

When to go

The best time to visit Newport State Park is during the warmer months, from late spring to early fall, when the trails are accessible and the night skies are clear for stargazing. Winter can be harsh, with limited access and activities due to snow and ice.

Know before you go

  • Ensure your vehicle has a valid admission sticker before entering the park.
  • Check the property notices for any updates on closures or conditions.
  • Prepare for limited amenities; pack essentials and leave no trash behind.
  • Respect the park's hours, open from 6am to 11pm year-round.
  • For stargazing, plan your visit around the new moon for the darkest skies.
