Our present project is building a luxury bathhouse ( still being framed now ) right now guests have access to the Bathroom & Kitchen of the old farm house ( built in 1903 ) We are close to Columbia ( 30 minutes ) for a nice trip to the zoo or a float down the Saluda River with Adventure Carolina or a visit to Soda City Market which is Columbia’s weekly Main Street event inspired by traditional European street markets open every Saturday morning 9 a.m. –1 p.m., year-round, rain or shine! Too Many Oaks is a perfect mix of nice and quiet but still close to town. Also just in Synchronous fireflies, which are fireflies that gather and flash their lights at the same time as part of a mating ritual, are expected to light up the Congaree National Park in May. Check with the park for details.

Great camping at Too Many Oaks. I stayed there as a stop off for one night on the way to my final destination and it was perfect. Michael is an excellent host who has wonderful tree filled property with nice sites. Table, chairs, fire pit and firewood at the ready, with flat spots and plenty of space to enjoy. There is also a nice old cabin that has running water and a few amenities that help make camping life a little easier, it’s a nice touch to a cool site.

I absolutely had a wonderful time camping at Debra’s place. She was so kind and welcoming. You really don’t meet people that nice anymore. I am bikepacking the Palmetto Trail and her place was the perfect stop along my route. It’s also a short walk to a bar and grill, bonus! Would recommend to anyone looking to primitive camp. Very private too! She also runs a shuttle service for anyone interested!

There are picnic tables under the shelter with bistro lights along the river as well as a grill for cooking and water for cleanup. Fire pit at the river. James was very responsive with our questions. We only spent one night coming through to visit Congaree National Park. We loved the spot Michael picked out for us. There was wood all set up for us in the fire pit ready to light when we drove in. Also it was great to be able to use the little cabins facilities for the bathroom! Thanks for a great stay a bit chilly but still was an adventure. Would definitely stay there again if in this area.

This was a great spot to stop for a night when i was looking for a safe and quiet place. The trees are beautiful and the lights are a nice touch. Michael was not on site but was very communicative and helpful and very generous with how he shared his space.

7 nights at Black Pearl Farms

With several RV sites, and more to come, a Yurt and soon to be 3 insulated geodesic dome cabins, you'll think you're in a high end camping resort at Black Pearl Farms. While really you're in the middle of a working berry farm. I stayed for a week in the winter so I didn't get to experience the farm in working order. But I can imagine looking out my window at rows and rows of blueberries and lavender. And just a mile or so down the country road is the upper Edisto River, ripe for kayaking and exploring. I can't say enough about the hosts here. They welcomed me on the road coming in, they checked on me during my stay. And they're building the place on their own. I appreciate hard work especially when it creates a place that's going to be a gem to visit, not that it isn't already! So, if your heading north or south, or even east or west, look for Black Pearl Farms in South Carolina. You'll be glad you did.

Blacks Fish Camp is a great secluded area with a beautiful cypress swamp! Nice gazebo and sitting area with space to grill. Would definitely stay again!

We had a nice paddle down the river with Carolina Outdoor Adventures. The guides were very helpful getting in and out of your kayak and were very knowledgable about the area. We truly enjoyed it.

Congaree!

Had low expectations and boy was I wrong…what an amazing National Park! Had no idea about the number of Champion Trees. Great walk through the beautiful park. Saw many Pileated Woodpeckers, 2 Barred Owls and many, many other birds and small animals. This was our 25th National Park and Congaree doesn’t disappoint.

A park worth long leisurely hikes to explore the varying ecosystems. In addition to the many massive trees (the cypress knees!!!), we saw a raccoon climbing a tree and hunting insects, lizards, and a bard owl, even at the end of November. A really lovely place with a mysterious vibe.

Worth a visit!

I hiked 25 miles in the park over 2 days, and then did a kayak float in the rain the third day. Enjoyed seeing the unique landscape. Water was very low though and very little wildlife.

Long Leaf Campground

I stayed in IS01. Quick walk in, as are all the sites really. Sites are very close together with a couple trees separating them. There is a pit toilet in the parking lot.

Unique park with miles of boardwalks

I visited Congaree Nat’l Park in October 2021 to walk the boardwalks and explore this unique park. In all honesty, I would not go too far out of your way to visit, but if you’re passing by definitely make the stop and spend an hour exploring.

My visit was shortly after the lightning bug event, so I decided to go in the evening in hopes I would catch some activity. Success! Saw raccoons, otters, owls, squirrels, snakes, blue herons, baby frogs, slugs, snails, dragonflies… and a few fireflies around dusk. I started my hike around 5pm and did a 7.5 mile loop, finishing just as the sun was setting. Boardwalk > Simms > Weston Lake > Oakridge > Simms > Boardwalk. I completed clockwise per the direction of a ranger to prevent getting off trail after a water crossing. I felt the trails were well marked, blazes frequently spaced, which helped me get back on track in a couple spots that were unclear. The mosquitoes were pretty annoying, but as long as I kept moving I was able to escape them. Recommend bringing a map, for use as a fan to keep the mosquitoes at bay, not really needed for navigation.
