Peaceful, private and serene land right by the river at the edge of a little quaint town called La Madera (145 people)- just 6 miles to the healing mineral Hot Springs of Ojo Caliente, a place of emergence or rebirth as known to the local Natives.
At the moment we have three options 1) Cosy & nestled Vintage Camper that can be heated, with kitchen, electricity and plenty of outdoor furniture with a fire pit and serene mountain views. 2) As well as a Gazebo Tree shaded campsite for tents only, with fire pit, outdoor seating and the tranquil sounds of the gently flowing river in the background. 3) If you would like to bring your own camper/or tent we have a willow brush enclosed meadow with stunning views. Some campsites have access to a guest bathroom inside the main house, others have private outhouses.
*** Right by the river, held by a BLM ridge (makes for amazing sunset hikes), we have a tent campsite for several people that will be available once our bridge is finished- est. end of April '26. As well as a Gypsy Wagon with electric, water and kitchen.
My partner (senior therapist at Ojo Hot Springs) offers private massages that you'll find in the Extras.
As of April '26 we have been adopted by two sweet dogs- mom and her pup. For now, until we find homes for them, we cannot accept your pets. So sorry.
+++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. The land is naturally and beautifully wild with lots of bird sounds. It is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars.
With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great.
Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away.
*No cell service in the greater area. Wifi available around the house for calling and texting.

This glamp zone occupies only 1.25 acres. Part of our mission in creating this space is to bring folks together. We encourage campers to mingle. Maybe organize a group float down the Chama. The float from just above Bodes to our very own shore is wonderful. It takes about two hours. There is one challenging spot, but beside that, the float is calm and tranquil.
Please be aware, we have cats, chickens, goats, donkeys, horses and dogs that live on the property. Your pets are welcome only if they are guaranteed to not pester or hurt our posse of pets. Also, we will not tolerate excessive barking or inappropriate running around or bothering ourselves or other guests. You must pick up all your and your pets waste and take it with you when you leave.

Base Camp Family Campground is owned and operated by the Baker Family. Josh Baker first lived in Southern Colorado in the early 90's as a child, but his family moved away after a short time. His desire to move back here as an adult prompted him to start bringing his own family to Colorado for vacations. They purchased land in the valley in 2014 and moved to Colorado in 2020. They are using all they've learned from years of RV adventures, to continue the park's mission of providing a clean, affordable, spacious, well-run camping facility, and to be a centrally located "base camp" and hub of information for everything this unique area has to offer.
You'll be camping in the shadows of 14,000 ft. mountain peaks, in the largest high-desert alpine valley in the world, that is sprinkled with free-flowing artesian wells, hot springs and wet lands. Daily summer temperatures average 65 degrees, and it will get down into the 50's at night. That's perfect camping weather!
For native American tribes, including the Utes, Apache, Navajos, and others, this valley is considered the source of life, a place where humans and spirit enter and leave this world. The valley was considered so sacred, that no war would be waged here.

This is a special remote neighborhood that sprang from a '70's compound, which was centered around the Tibetan Buddhist stupa, south from where this camp is located. The skies are some of the darkest in the United States. The milky way is visible from the parking lot of this camp, at 8000 feet elevation, northern high alpine desert transitional zone.

This is is a campsite, please come prepared to camp, and you will enjoy this experience. The sites have been made flat, there is river water available for washing, but must be boiled before drinking to prevent giardia. Firewood available, Please always ask before starting a campfire, in case of fire bans or other factors.
Quiet, amazing view of the Sangres, hiking and national monuments nearby, ski valleys, grocery store, Village of Questa is 8 miles, Village of Red River is about 20 miles. Great Sand Dunes is about 2 hours north in Colorado.
Wild and Scenic Rivers Park, Rio Grande del Norte river about 10 miles. We ask that you arrive before dark for ease of setting up your tent and finding the outhouse and outdoor shower area. Hosts are on or near the property (or within a mile). It is easy to get lost: DO NOT rely on GPS. Use the written directions in the listing to save you from getting lost.
It is a goal to produce as little waste as possible on this property. Please avoid excessive plastic bottles. Pack in, pack out your trash and recycling. We will provide drinking water, and all other water is available at the campground. Please put up all food since we are in guests up here in bear, mountain lion and coyote country. No poisonous snakes or mosquitos (usually) up here at 8100 feet. There is all kinds of wildlife can be seen up here from time to time, and many varieties of birds, and also bats.
If you're into camping by car, tent or tipi, this camp is for you. We offer two 30 amp sites for small travel trailers.
Our position on a mountain slope at 8100 elevation means this camp is very dry, and cold at night.

Coyote Cabin sits on 10 acres just north of Taos, on a property shared with the main house. You have access to miles of walkable dirt roads right from the door, and there are trails to BLM land nearby. 10 minute drive from access to the Rio Grande Gorge, and an easy 25 minute drive into Taos Ski Valley for snow fun and hiking. 15 min north of downtown Taos.
The cabin is divided into two sides. One side is a bedroom/bathroom suite with a comfortable queen size bed and a bathroom (with an awesome standing shower).
On the other side, separated by an exterior door, you'll find a cozy space for dining and relaxing, a couch (with a small fold-out mattress), and a kitchenette.
This means you move from the living room/kitchenette to the bedroom/bathroom by walking outside under the covered patio. While it's a bit unusual, we really enjoy it, and so do 99% of our guests. If you like being outdoors, and enjoy having separate areas for sleeping vs hanging out and cooking, you'll enjoy it too.
The kitchenette includes a mini fridge, a large double sink, an electric cooktop, varied coffee supplies, and all the essential cooking amenities. No need to run to the store just for basics like salt, pepper, or oil. Plus some less basic items, like a variety of Trader Joes spices + emergency snacks. The Blackstone outdoor griddle is a versatile cooking amenity, where you can make a full breakfast spread, delicious fajitas, and really anything in between.
This is a somewhat remote high desert area, with all that entails. There are birds, bugs, and lots of other wildlife around. You may hear coyotes singing late at night or early in the morning.
The last 1.5 miles of the drive are on a maintained dirt road. You don't need 4WD or a lifted vehicle to get here, although you may need it for other areas of Taos.
The guest cabin shares the 10 acres with the main house, where we live. If we're out of town, other guests may be staying in the main house. The cabin and house are well separated by both a large garage and latilla privacy fences.
The cabin is dog friendly, as we have two of our own and know the challenges of traveling with dogs.

Some campsites have access to a guest bathroom inside the main house, others have private outhouses.
*** Right by the river, held by a BLM ridge (makes for amazing sunset hikes), we have a tent campsite for several people that will be available once our bridge is finished- est. end of April '26. As well as a Gypsy Wagon with electric, water and kitchen.

+++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. The land is naturally and beautifully wild with lots of bird sounds. It is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars.
With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great.
Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away.

This glamp zone occupies only 1.25 acres. Part of our mission in creating this space is to bring folks together. We encourage campers to mingle. Maybe organize a group float down the Chama. The float from just above Bodes to our very own shore is wonderful. It takes about two hours. There is one challenging spot, but beside that, the float is calm and tranquil.
Please be aware, we have cats, chickens, goats, donkeys, horses and dogs that live on the property. Your pets are welcome only if they are guaranteed to not pester or hurt our posse of pets. Also, we will not tolerate excessive barking or inappropriate running around or bothering ourselves or other guests. You must pick up all your and your pets waste and take it with you when you leave.

Base Camp Family Campground is owned and operated by the Baker Family. Josh Baker first lived in Southern Colorado in the early 90's as a child, but his family moved away after a short time. His desire to move back here as an adult prompted him to start bringing his own family to Colorado for vacations. They purchased land in the valley in 2014 and moved to Colorado in 2020. For native American tribes, including the Utes, Apache, Navajos, and others, this valley is considered the source of life, a place where humans and spirit enter and leave this world. The valley was considered so sacred, that no war would be waged here.

Wild and Scenic Rivers Park, Rio Grande del Norte river about 10 miles. We ask that you arrive before dark for ease of setting up your tent and finding the outhouse and outdoor shower area. Hosts are on or near the property (or within a mile). It is easy to get lost: DO NOT rely on GPS. Use the written directions in the listing to save you from getting lost.
It is a goal to produce as little waste as possible on this property. Please avoid excessive plastic bottles. Pack in, pack out your trash and recycling. We will provide drinking water, and all other water is available at the campground. Please put up all food since we are in guests up here in bear, mountain lion and coyote country. No poisonous snakes or mosquitos (usually) up here at 8100 feet. There is all kinds of wildlife can be seen up here from time to time, and many varieties of birds, and also bats.
If you're into camping by car, tent or tipi, this camp is for you. We offer two 30 amp sites for small travel trailers.
Our position on a mountain slope at 8100 elevation means this camp is very dry, and cold at night.

Everyone's most loved feature is the expansive covered patio, with wide-open westward views over the Rio Grande Gorge.
Perfect for outdoor lovers who need a comfy adventure base. Close to skiing, hiking, rafting, mountain biking, hot air balloons, and more.

Coyote Cabin sits on 10 acres just north of Taos, on a property shared with the main house. You have access to miles of walkable dirt roads right from the door, and there are trails to BLM land nearby. 10 minute drive from access to the Rio Grande Gorge, and an easy 25 minute drive into Taos Ski Valley for snow fun and hiking. 15 min north of downtown Taos.
The cabin is divided into two sides. One side is a bedroom/bathroom suite with a comfortable queen size bed and a bathroom (with an awesome standing shower).
On the other side, separated by an exterior door, you'll find a cozy space for dining and relaxing, a couch (with a small fold-out mattress), and a kitchenette.
This means you move from the living room/kitchenette to the bedroom/bathroom by walking outside under the covered patio. While it's a bit unusual, we really enjoy it, and so do 99% of our guests. If you like being outdoors, and enjoy having separate areas for sleeping vs hanging out and cooking, you'll enjoy it too.
The kitchenette includes a mini fridge, a large double sink, an electric cooktop, varied coffee supplies, and all the essential cooking amenities. No need to run to the store just for basics like salt, pepper, or oil. Plus some less basic items, like a variety of Trader Joes spices + emergency snacks. The Blackstone outdoor griddle is a versatile cooking amenity, where you can make a full breakfast spread, delicious fajitas, and really anything in between.
This is a somewhat remote high desert area, with all that entails. There are birds, bugs, and lots of other wildlife around. You may hear coyotes singing late at night or early in the morning.
The last 1.5 miles of the drive are on a maintained dirt road. You don't need 4WD or a lifted vehicle to get here, although you may need it for other areas of Taos.
The guest cabin shares the 10 acres with the main house, where we live. If we're out of town, other guests may be staying in the main house. The cabin and house are well separated by both a large garage and latilla privacy fences.
The cabin is dog friendly, as we have two of our own and know the challenges of traveling with dogs.

This is a very peaceful place where sunset hits the site perfectly. Everything you could possibly need is provided. It has a gentle, home-like feel. The bed is very comfortable as well which was a big plus after 18 hours of driving.

There are 4 beds and they are all really comfy.
The bedding is very comfy and very cozy.
Bring a double burner and a few pots if you plan to make a bigger meal.
Otherwise tea and coffee supplies are provided and very easy to use.
Kate was super helpful and responsive.

The yurt was absolutely beautiful! The inside was super cozy and clean. Kate was an excellent host and was super kind and friendly. There was a nice outhouse right outside and also a little heater which helped keep us warm all night. Very scenic views surrounding the location with lots of great hiking and outdoor activities surrounding the area. I would definitely recommend this spot.

A super cute place. The cabins were super clean and the wood stove got so hot! I got to pet some kitties and i saw chickens and there are laundry facilities which come in handy for travelers. Cheves's Yurt was about 30 mins north of Taos, make sure you make it down there for some tacos and art. Cheves has done a nice job of setting up this off-grid yurt. The outhouse is nice, he's got electricity (for charging and lights - but not for big electronics) and heat to keep you warm at night. Bring extra layers if coming in winter, but we loved our stay (obviously, this is off grid camping folks with a nice mattress), it was beautiful and affordable and comfortable. FYI there are free roaming dogs in the area - I would like to come back in the summer and use the outdoor shower! Cool place. There is a burner for coffee, but you do need to bring anything you want to cook. Thanks Cheves.
