Treat yourself to a quiet getaway for one at this cozy, clean and comfortable cabin on our rural farm, between two rivers, on Sherman Island. Located in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area at the confluence of the San Joaquin River, Sacramento River, and the eastern terminus of San Francisco Bay, Sherman Island is known for its wildlife, sunrises, and sunsets, and its dark sky for stargazing opportunities.

This time of year, please consider this COLD CAMPING. Our tent has 4 extra blankets but you should be prepared to keep yourself warm and prepared for winter weather. The river near the tent is rushing so if you enjoy the sound of rain on the tent roof or a rushing river, please come see our tent.
In February, you can enjoy outdoor activities like hiking in Henry Cowell Redwoods, walking along West Cliff Drive, and visiting Natural Bridges State Beach. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is open year-round, offering a chance to experience it with fewer crowds and more deals. You can also visit local attractions like the Mystery Spot, the Santa Cruz Wharf, and the Seymour Marine Discovery Center.
Any FIFA World Cup Soccer Fans!!! Games at Levi's Stadium on Jun 13, 16, 19, 22, 25 and July 1. Levi's Stadium in 35 minute drive from tent.

One mile away is Harvey Bear County Park, with trails for bikes, horses or walking. We are 5 minutes from the Gilroy Outlets, yet a world away from the hustle and bustle! Come, relax and enjoy nature! Enjoy Gilroy Gardens (seasonally) or go hiking at a nearby State or County Park. Or just relax at the Farm.

This is an animal farm. If you love new animal experiences, this is the place for you! If you are scared of or allergic to cats or dogs, this might not be the place for you! If you can't handle new smells and sounds, this might not be the place for you. You will feed and enjoy the animals; please respect their space, no chasing and no going into their enclosures.
There is dirt, dust and various country critters. We love Country Life!!

Another option (as an add-on): you can pitch a tent for $45.
"The Flying Pig" has a queen bed, bunk beds twin size, and a loft with a twin mattress, all bedding included.
You are not just paying for a place to sleep; you are paying for an experience and the enjoyment of our property :-).
We serve a continental breakfast (free) or hot breakfast ($35/cabin) between 8-9am.
(we can accommodate vegetarian and dairy free diets; let us know before you come).
We provide bedding and towels. There is A/C and a plug-in heater in The Flying Pig. Please do not bring additional things to plug in except for chargers for phone/electronic devices.
We are approximately 1 1/2 hours south of San Francisco,
30 min south of San Jose (without traffic).
Gilroy Gardens is 15 min away; Harvey Bear County park is 1 mile away; Monterey and Santa Cruz and the Pinnacles National Park are approximately 1 hour away.
We recommend bringing dinner or eating before arrival to maximize your evening.

Our goats roam the land all day and may visit you for pets and nuzzles. They are gentle, but please do not feed or let them inside the tent.
Recharge from the day with a hot shower. Grab your fresh towels from your tent and go to your outdoor allocated bathhouses, where you’ll find an indoor shower and well-appointed restrooms. They are nicely lit and stocked with bath products.
A sink area is available for dish clean-up, and a bbq/picnic area.

Treat yourself to a quiet getaway for one at this cozy, clean and comfortable cabin on our rural farm, between two rivers, on Sherman Island. Located in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area at the confluence of the San Joaquin River, Sacramento River, and the eastern terminus of San Francisco Bay, Sherman Island is known for its wildlife, sunrises, and sunsets, and its dark sky for stargazing opportunities.
The property is surrounded by alfalfa fields, grazing cattle, sheep, and a wildland habitat populated with migratory and native birds, animals, and plants.
The one-room cabin has a bed and clawfoot bathtub with hot water offering a peaceful escape on our 5-acre tree-lined farm. Here you can listen to birdsong instead of the sounds of the city. This is an ideal cabin for birdwatchers, writers, plein air painters, nature photographers, stargazing, windsurfers/kiteboarders, meditation, or some stress-free, peaceful reset time.
The private cottage has a refrigerator, microwave, compostable dinnerware, drinking water, and a coffeemaker with coffee. It is air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter.
Pets are welcome and free to enjoy being off-leash in the cabin's fenced yard. The hosts raise free-range chickens and bees on their farm and also conduct a nonprofit rescue and hospice for senior pets.
The property is in the Pacific Migratory Flyway, surrounded by a 1000-acre
State habitat/preserve populated by wildlife and seasonal birds.
Downtown San Francisco and Sacramento are each about 50 miles away in opposite directions. Mount Diablo, viewed from the property, is about 15 miles south and offers hiking trails with stunning views and abundant wildlife.

In February, you can enjoy outdoor activities like hiking in Henry Cowell Redwoods, walking along West Cliff Drive, and visiting Natural Bridges State Beach. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is open year-round, offering a chance to experience it with fewer crowds and more deals. You can also visit local attractions like the Mystery Spot, the Santa Cruz Wharf, and the Seymour Marine Discovery Center.

"The Flying Pig" has a queen bed, bunk beds twin size, and a loft with a twin mattress, all bedding included.

We serve a continental breakfast (free) or hot breakfast ($35/cabin) between 8-9am.
(we can accommodate vegetarian and dairy free diets; let us know before you come).
We provide bedding and towels. There is A/C and a plug-in heater in The Flying Pig. Please do not bring additional things to plug in except for chargers for phone/electronic devices.
We are approximately 1 1/2 hours south of San Francisco,
30 min south of San Jose (without traffic).
Gilroy Gardens is 15 min away; Harvey Bear County park is 1 mile away; Monterey and Santa Cruz and the Pinnacles National Park are approximately 1 hour away.

My second visit here in this quiet oasis. Just 3 weeks between and I loved the improvements (like a cool sink in the very lovely and clean outhouse).
It was off and on deluge of rain, and was so nice to fall asleep to that sound on the tent. I would highly recommend rain boots if you know there is rain in the forecast as it can get muddy between the tent and the outhouse. Simply part of the adventure...

Fantastic stay. It feels completely tucked away in the redwoods, yet it’s only about 30 minutes from SFO and Silicon Valley. Tent 01 was very private, comfortable, and beautifully set up. The bed was cozy, the wood stove kept everything warm, and the deck overlooking the forest was the perfect place for morning coffee.
Loved all the thoughtful touches like fresh eggs, coffee, and firewood. The bathhouse was clean and close, and the whole property has a peaceful, special feel. Seeing the goats wandering around was a fun bonus.
If you’re looking for a quiet escape in nature without going far, this is an amazing spot. Would definitely come back.

The space was wide open and flat with perfect ground for tent camping. It was a bit hard to find a spot in the dark so highly suggest planning to set up before dusk, but there were a few light posts present. Check in and check out was simple, fast, and requires no human interaction. Area seems very safe - even more so with the fancy high tech gate system into the ranch - and the nearby downtown area is fancy. The restroom/shower room was clean but can be a bit of a walk from the camp sites, so plan accordingly. Morning dew made it so that your socks are likely to get wet making it to the restroom!

Overview
About
Surrounding 5-mile-long Lake Del Valle are 4,395 acres of oak covered hills, plus many trails to hike, bike, or explore on horseback. Windsurfing and kayaking are popular water sports, while boat rentals are available and you can launch your own craft for a small fee. Anglers can do some shore fishing to fish for trout, or try using powerbait in the narrows, between the launch ramp and Heron Bay. Lakeside RV and tent camping is available year-round at the Del Valle Family Campground, and group and equestrian sites are scattered throughout the park.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for families: The Family Campground has 150 sites, including two that are wheelchair accessible.
- Best for large groups: Eagles View group camp can accommodate 11 people or more.
- Best for equestrians: The Little Chaparral horse camp area contains four small paddocks.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Sites fill up fast on weekends and during summer, so be sure to reserve early—up to 12 weeks in advance.
- Drive-in family campsites are available by reservation year-round for tent camping and motorhomes. Some sites have hookups for water, sewage, and 50-amp electrical power.
- The campground has restrooms, hot showers, picnic tables, open areas, and connections to park trails.
- Organized group camping is permitted by reservation only, made at least five business days in advance.
- Equestrian groups should reserve the Caballo Loco equestrian group camp.
- All campers with watercraft must go to boat inspection prior to checking into the campground.
When to go
The lake is stocked with trout in fall through late spring. Stocked catfish can be caught in the summer months, but keep in mind the lake gets rowdy after Memorial Day. Del Valle Regional Park is quieter in winter and spring. For the ruggedly inclined, this is a perfect time to backpack into the Ohlone Wilderness, a 28-mile backcountry that borders the park. The weather can be changeable any time of year, so layered clothing is recommended.
Know before you go
- Fees apply for vehicle entry, boat inspections, dogs, fishing permits, boat rentals, boat launches, windsurfing, camping, and reservable group picnics.
- Any size boat is allowed, but personal watercraft are not permitted.
- Mandatory boat inspections protect the lake against zebra and quagga mussel infestation.
- Visitors can schedule a natural and cultural history boat tour with interpretive staff.
- Campers should bring their own pre-cut firewood, first aid kit, and drinking water. Fires should only be built in provided firepits.
- Hammocks and swings are not allowed to be attached or tied to trees.

You will need any watercraft to be dry as a whistle or you risk invasive species that could close the lake. Make sure your paddles are taken apart to get dry and you will get inspected first thing before you head to the campground.

Dog friendly! The space is open and lots of hiking groups go through the camp grounds so you'll see lots of other people throughout the day, it's not a secluded campsite. The lake nearby is great for paddle boarding and a cold swim.

Really lovely spot for an easy getaway. I'm a pretty experienced backpacker, but needed a place close to San Francisco to break a friend into car camping. This was the perfect spot for it. It was active and I think fully booked, but not as crazy as I expected. Lots of kids around, so get earplugs if you sleep light. The sites are large and spacious, so even if you max out with 8 folks to a site you should be fine. Really great facilities, the fire pits are top notch. The reservoir was a little lame, the trails are generally ok. Nothing epic, but generally really pleasant. Probably where I'd take kids to for their first camping trip to break them into the outdoors.

The campsites are pretty close together so expect to hear and see all your fellow campers. We had a number of people with dueling sound systems. Still, I like the fact that it's only a little over an hour from the bay area and the scenery is nice. We spent a day on the lake paddle boating and then just lounging around our camp site. Bathrooms were cleaned and restocked everyday and the camp store had everything we needed. Site 133 had a nice shaded spot for our tents; other sites are not so lucky, it's very hit or miss.

This is definitely a family-oriented campsite. Lost of kids running around during the day. If you're a light sleeper, I'd recommend a set of earplugs or headphones, otherwise you might hear kids crying or partying from nearby camp sites into the night.

This is not necessarily a tip, but the showers are FREE! Now, you’d think they would lack the necessary comforting facilities with such generous nature, but the bathrooms consistently have hot water and clean washrooms, so we wouldn’t consider camping here “roughing it.”
