Maple Creek Ranch

39mi from Devil's Kitchen · 6 sites · Tents, RVs · Cohasset, CA
This year, the Park Fire has brought some changes to our surroundings, but we’re thrilled to share that our camp sites, pond area, and homes were miraculously untouched! 🌲✨ Here’s what you can expect during your stay: - Mud Creek Canyon: While this area was most affected by the fire, it remains a good spot for hiking and exploring. - The Pond: It’s looking beautiful, and we have completed restoring the stream that feeds it. Enjoy the serene environment as nature continues to flourish. - Ongoing Restoration: We’re committed to rejuvenating the land and ensuring your experience remains as wonderful as ever. ================= The Maple Creek Ranch and Tree Farm has been family owned and operated since 1934. The patriarch of the family, whose family had moved here from Sweden, had a great love of the forest and trains. The property was one of the first certified tree farms in California with the goal of nurturing a healthy forest. In the 1960’s, a mile of railroad tracks was laid and the whistle of a small, steam engine train could be heard throughout the community. Local residents and kids were treated to free train rides and special events for many years. There is a natural spring with a small creek that supplies the ponds with fresh water year around. There is also a small canyon on the property with a larger stream called Mud Creek. The land is rich in Indian history and there a artifacts and other signs on the Indians presence. The Cohasset area is relatively unknown. 15 miles from our property is Deer Creek and the Lasson National Forest is about a 2 hour drive north. While staying with us you can pitch your tent on our private 500 acres. We have 2 primitive camping spots on our property. Each spot has a picnic table and fire pit. There is a flush toilet shared for both camp sites. * During freezing weather the toilets may be closed so they don’t freeze! Please check before booking *The spots are spread out to ensure privacy. Our property is surrounded by the forest and is loaded with deer, squirrels, turkeys and other forest animals. We have numerous walking trails, a fresh water pond for fishing and swimming. Please notify us if you have an RV. Site 1 is best for RV's. Site 2 can accommodate smaller RV's.

We are a working flower farm also offering u-pick fruit, hoping to soon offer veggies and slowing starting our nursery space. Easily accessible from Highway 99 near the little town of Vina. Off the beaten path, on the skirts of the Vina plains, our property runs along a seasonal creek (slough) and has epic views of the sunset. Enjoy the property for hiking, quite morning bird watching and your morning cup of coffee in the serenity of the farm. We have a plethora of wildlife that occupies our acreage. Keep you eyes peeled for foxes, hawks, bunnies and the occasional otter, deer or mountain lion. The town of Vina is home to an award winning Winery at the Monastery just down the street. If you stay Thursday-Sunday you can enjoy the delicious food from the famed Lassen Steakhouse also, just down the street. Though both are only a few miles away, our property will have you feeling like you've escaped it all due to it's location, nestled down Division lane. We are popular with the locals for a quiet and beautiful setting to capture gorgeous portraits. We are often visited by local artisans and musicians whose wares and stylings add to the vibe here at the farm. If you love star gazing or night sky photography, you will definitely love it out here! Bring your tripod and enjoy capturing our beautiful night sky with very little light pollution.

Furnished with a full-size bed, an outdoor sink, basic kitchen amenities, and a shower and a potty, the space is perfect for the solo or duo traveler. Located about 4 miles east of I-5, it's a peaceful and safe "pit stop" for those traveling the I-5 corridor. Located just outside of Redding, we are centrally located and have easy access to all Shasta County has to offer. Explore Lassen National Park (1 hour drive east along beautiful country roads), Whiskeytown National Recreation Area (20 min drive west), Old Shasta State Historic Park (15 min drive west), and of course, beautiful Mt. Shasta. Don't forget our numerous breweries, Turtle Bay Exploration Park, the Sacramento River, and the Sundial Bridge! Redding is also home to many hiking and biking trails. Camp Stoney Meadows

100%
(353)
50mi from Devil's Kitchen · 13 sites · Tents, RVs, Lodging · Big Bend, CA
Our 120 remote acres are adjacent to Shasta Trinity National Forest in the beautiful Cascade Range between Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta in Northern California. It's a working ranch with tree farms, animals, hydroelectric power, sawmill, gardens, orchards, creeks, springs, trails, and our camp alongside Kosk Creek. We're 54 miles from Redding off of 299E, (about 1-1/2 hour drive). DO NOT TAKE ROAD 11 FROM THE NORTH, IT IS CLOSED! PIease try to ignore the "car art" in the Pit River Tribe's Rancheria as you're coming here. Drive right through it, it's no reflection on us. The last mile or so of the road here can be pretty rough, but on arrival, you'll know it's worth the trip! No Cell phone service available here, so it's the perfect opportunity to unplug. We do have a land line up at the house in case of an emergency. Also, if you really need it, WiFi is available at the house.

The best camping near Devil's Kitchen, CA guide

Overview

About

A 4 mile stroll through the Warner Valley in Lassen Volcanic National Park will bring you to the Devil's Kitchen. As you emerge from the lush meadows and forests the second largest hydrothermal in the entire park appears through the clouds of steam. A trail will lead you past steaming mud-pots and boiling springs as you hear the hiss of steam escaping from the depths below. The mysterious smell that "something" is cooking leaves you feeling eerie as you stroll through this hellish landscape.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Devil's Kitchen is during the warmer months, from late spring to early fall, when the trails are clear and the hydrothermal features are active. Winter can bring heavy snow, making access challenging and potentially closing the park.

Know before you go

  • Check the latest trail conditions and weather forecasts before your visit.
  • Stay on designated trails to protect the fragile hydrothermal areas and for your safety.
  • Bring plenty of water, as the hike can be strenuous and dehydrating.
  • Be prepared for sudden weather changes; dress in layers and carry rain gear.
  • Remember, wildlife is present in the park; maintain a safe distance at all times.
