There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. Felt like I was far away from everything but wasn’t. I had a boondocking spot. Flat site. Nice big dog park. Great location north of flagstaff where there wasn’t many camping options. Clubhouse was set With games, exercise equipment, washer and dryer, tv. Would be a great place to hide from the wind or cold weather if needed. Right next to the highway so some traffic noise. It wasn’t that bad except the occasional big truck. I’d definitely would stay again!

Where to even begin?! This is hands down one of the most beautiful hidden gems in AZ — under two hours from Phoenix. Everything is so thought out and the entire campground is filled with pure love and respect for the land. Gary and Daren have thought of everything to make the entire camping experience just perfect. Definitely recommend for solo travelers or new campers! The creek is an absolute TREAT and has everything you need to enjoy the water! The water is clean, fresh and magical. We had a wonderful time at this Hipcamp! Jeannie was incredibly kind and welcoming from the moment we arrived. She even gave us some excellent restaurant recommendations for our visit to the Grand Canyon, which we really appreciated. The site had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was a very quiet and peaceful spot, making it the perfect place to rest and recharge at night after a long day of exploring. If you’re looking for a great location with a personal touch, this is it! We’d definitely stay here again.

I've camped here twice and the facilities are very clean but the campsites are tight together. The camp hosts are so sweet and amazing! The gas station and diner across the way are nice if you're missing a few small items or for coffee but it's expensive and not well stocked. (ten camping // 5+ nights total // June 2016, May 2019)

I was on a solo road trip and found my way to the Grand Canyon. I don't know what I was thinking...that I could just roll in and find a tent spot in the park without booking a year in advance...so I was extremely happy to find this campsite within a short drive to GCNP. It was not that crowded, as in I was able to arrive mid-afternoon, in the middle of the summer, and find a nice shady spot no problem. There are lots of trees and the campsites are a pretty good distance apart. I would highly recommend this spot because it is so close to GCNP, but you don't have to deal with booking so far in advance or the crowds. I will be returning next summer for sure!

White Horse Lake Campground

Great place to camp in the summer as nights are cool due to high elevation. The Bathrooms were very clean, and we felt the campsites were fairly average when it came to spacing (not to close together, but then again not very private). Big trucks & cars drive along the road by the campsite all night/day so it can be noisy-try to get a spot on the opposite side of the entrance to avoid this. About an 1hr. away from the North Rim & is a pretty, scenic drive.

An older campground with small sites, spaced close together. However the fishing in this Lake is the main draw, unless you come out with a bunch of people who want to party, I would choose another campground & just go there to fish....

We camped here in June, Site 53, which we Thought we were Lucky to get as it is Right on the lake. Turns out that the wind comes Roaring Dow the lake, right through that site, which is quite exposed! It as So Windy we couldn't sit outside at all- Very Frustrating!! The Campground itself is Extremely Beautiful & quiet, with sites widely spaced but mostly back among the pines & spruces. The lake itself is really nice, but as for fishing, we didn't see ANY FISH CAUGHT in the 5 days we were there? Must be it hadn't been stocked lately. Otherwise a Very Nice & Isolated camp ground...

Jacob Lake CG had clean facilities and a very attentive host. Don't expect much privacy though... The sites are pretty scrunched together and it's located right next to a loud, busy road. There's a gas station and diner within walking distance if that's your thing (diner food was meh...). All in all it was a perfectly fine place to spend the night, but didn't offer much else aside from its close proximity to the Grand Canyon North Rim. (tent camping // one night // october)
