In 1946, the park was renamed The Governor Hogg Shrine State Historical Park after seventeen acres were donated to the state. Ima Hogg contributed an additional 4.74 acres in 1970, and further expansions brought the park to its current size. In 2007, the City of Quitman acquired the park, renaming it to honor Governor Jim Hogg. Visitors can enjoy a delightful .5-mile nature walk that begins at a beautifully restored turn-of-the-century pony-truss bridge.
