First and foremost, what stood out to me the most was how helpful, responsive, and accommodating Don was as a host! He always responded super promptly to any questions I had, provided tons of restaurant and trail recommendations, and even allowed us to move our reservation one day to try to avoid bad weather. As for the property itself, it was AWESOME! It is located basically at the foot of the mountains, with beautiful views, especially at sunrise and sunset. The flat, grassy area was perfect to pitch a tent and sleep comfortably. Our host made sure we had plenty of firewood as well. There's also a lot of brushy wood piled along the property that is great for kindling. The porta potty was super clean, with no smell at all.
Overall, 10/10 experience at this site, and Don was an awesome host!

We loved dons property! We were happily surprised to see plenty of basic equipment provided for us. The sunshade was a lifesaver. We felt very safe and comfortable. Definitely better than a typical campground with plenty of privacy. Don was a super host too. He made sure to restock us with water and a truckload of firewood. Don was full of information about the property and surrounding area and recommended the nearby John Dunn recreation area which was beautiful and super fun. If you don’t check it out, you’re making a mistake! Such a wonderful experience all the way around for our first visit with Hipcamp. We’re already discussing our next visit here!

I loved this campsite so much that I booked an extra night. Don was so helpful and the area is amazing. It’s near the gorge and river and has the best sunrises and sunsets. He provided lots of firewood and this area would be amazing for a big group. I’m in a subaru so it was easy to get out there. Would recommend 1000%, just prepare if there’s heavy winds in the forecast since the space is wide open and you can even see snow capped mountains. I was a female traveling solo with my dogs and I felt super safe and I’m so grateful I got to experience this area. Thank you again!!

We absolutely loved this Hipcamp and highly recommend it! This is a true gem in Taos, New Mexico. Don is the most knowledgeable and friendly host. Ask him for the best spots to visit on your trip! Sites 1 and 2 are closer to town and the road to the ski valley, but still very beautiful and private. It was the perfect launching point for our earlier morning start to conquer Wheeler Peak. The toilet was spotless, and the fresh gallon water tank is a great amenity. The firepits are a great touch for those chillier mountain nights! Tio Willy's rest stop and hideout offer access to 300 acres of rugged country on the Taos Plateau. These sites are bordering BLM land with quick access to the Rio Grande River via the John Dunn Bridge Recreation Area. We enjoyed our dip in the river and the scenic drive to reach these sites! We can't wait to come back to Taos and spend more time at these amazing sites!

Dragonfly 2 - The Bonsai
My wife and I, plus our two dogs wanted to explore Taos area for a long weekend. Don and his campsite
, Dragonfly 2-Bonsai, was the perfect spot for us in our campervan. Close to town , but still feels private. Great views of the mountains, yet easy access to restaurants, Taos Pueblo, and trails. Don is an amazing host, providing a clean porta-potty, water on site, and great recommendations. His family has owned the land for generations as original homesteaders. He allowed us to go to his other location, Tio Willy’s, to hike and explore. That site is a bit further from town but an amazing views and history. Don’s knowledge and pride for his family’s history, plus his conservation of their property is beautiful to see. And for him to share it with the Hipcamp community is something special! Whenever we visit the area, we will not hesitate to stay with Don!

Really beautiful private site. We stayed as a quick overnight on our way through and would love to come back and spend a few more days. Don was very responsive and the area was quiet and peaceful.

Camping in Taos valley was an exceptional experience, especially with Don as the host! The land is gorgeous, the on-site porta-potty was clean and Don was extremely helpful and told us about the awesome history of his land and the surrounding area.
In April it got cold at night and was warm during the day, so make sure you pack for a little bit of everything.
I would absolutely come back and plan to in the future. If you’re wanting an escape to some beautiful, vast and open plains that are surrounded by mountains, and where stars light up the skies at night, check out Don’s campgrounds. You won’t be disappointed!

I loved camping at Camp 1. The views of the surrounding area are amazing. My dog was able to be off leash. The rural setting was quiet and safe. If you enjoy birds, there were partridges and meadowlarks on the property. Don was quick with communication for ideas where to eat.

We loved camping with our campervan at Don’s land. It is the best stocked hip camp we have been to! It’s also beautiful, peaceful and with amazing views. Don and his family were kind, communicative and welcoming. They also have great tips for things to visit. We will definitely recommend this Hipcamp to anybody visiting Taos and it’s surroundings.

I highly recommend this option. The view is indescribable; the vastness of the valley and the juxtaposition of the 14r mountains all around you. The host was a gentlemen with local stories of the surrounding areas; a testament to his family owning the land for the last 100 years. Ample amounts of daily firewood and potable water. The cleanest porta potty this side of the Mississippi. This is the location you must reserve.

Of several dozen Hipcamps I have tried, this one stands out as among the best. Don is an incredibly gracious host, sharing his land, company, family history, and amenities. You will want for nothing. Plus, the location is excellent, and the campsites varied and comfortable. I will be back as soon as possible!

We could not imagine a better stay for our first time in Taos! This is a lovely piece of land, where we felt like we had total privacy, with really amazing views. We watched the sunrise over the mountains in the morning, glorious sunsets over the western plains in the evening, and spent hours looking at the Milky Way right over head. The fire pit and (VERY clean) portapotty were extra bonuses. It's near Arroyo Seco, a cute town with good food, shopping and ice cream, and a short drive to Taos.
Don was an exceptionally welcoming host, and made sure that we had everything we needed, gave us a ton of information about the history of the land and area, and provided great suggestions for what to check out and how to spend our time. He even sent us over to his family home nearby to pick plums from their orchard and use the hose. Cannot recommend this hipcamp highly enough, and we cannot wait to come back on our next trip!!

Truly can’t say enough about how lovely this spot is— if you’re self sufficient and don’t need anything (potable water, for instance) and love a gorgeous 360 degree view to yourself, this spot is for you! Don is awesome and gave us helpful directions for a more remote spot. Seriously check this one out!

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. We had the best time!! Not only was the camp spacious, we had 360 views of the mountains, plenty of fire wood, and the best host you could ask for! Don was incredibly kind and helpful, showing us places we never would have found on a Google search. He shared so much of his own life, family and history of the town, including the property's apricot and plum trees (which we got to pick from!) and one of the oldest houses in the area which has been in the family for generations. He was so generous, driving two of our group to wheelers peak trail head, while showing the other two around town during the day. He also brought us to some wild hot springs in the Rio Grande! We came across a poor lost pup after the hot springs and Don did everything he could to ensure it was taken care of. We love a fellow animal lover! Could not have asked for a better stay our first two nights in New Mexico. I will absolutely be coming back. This is a one-of-a-kind stay.

Easy access to a isolated section of ground with sweeping views all around and dark skies until a light rain ran us inside. We had a perfect night. We would stay here again.

We absolutely loved our stay. We had to book last minute and we were very grateful that Don and his family were able to accommodate us on such short notice. They had a fire started for us when we arrived and were there to greet us. The campsite was spacious, quaint, and peaceful. Would highly recommend!

Don was a great host, helped us to find our camp site after dark, and was so kind and helpful throughout our stay! The air on the land was nice and dry. The water from the spigot was very good and clean which was a great bonus! Local shops with organic foods are close by, as well- that was a big plus.
There was some standing water next to our camp, which while not directly in our path, did invite some mosquitoes to the area, so we definitely made use of our natural bug spray.
Overall great stay and would love to return!

Don was an excellent host! A cute spot for our pop up camper in the woods. Nice shade, private, beautiful land for nature walks. Don and his family were very friendly and accommodating. Quick communication and support. We parked a 19' popup camper in a lower tucked away space in the woods, and our truck made the entry/exit possible.
Location is perfect for exploring Taos Ski Valley through Arroyo Seco, close to Taos Pueblo, and easy to head to the Rio Grande bridge and explore the Earth ship dwellings. So it felt very central to everything AND very private, quiet, and nestled in beautiful land.

I booked this site on real short notice and Don contacted me rather quickly (impressively quick) and walk me through directions on how to get there as there was a road out that the general map apps didn’t recognize. After he realized where I was and what I was doing the next day he offered up another location that fit my needs better- so my review is actually of Don and not this site, although I am sure it is great. He had me stay as his vista 360 site which was amazing. Such a clear view of the NM sky at night and all of the stars.
Don was extremely helpful and I’d look to stay at any of his sites the next time I am in NM.

I think the only problem I think we had was the mosquitoes with all of the water laying around that could’ve been a heads up just for me not for anybody else. I’m new to is him Hipcamp stuff and I didn’t think about mosquitoes but other than that we enjoyed it tremendously. It was very isolated and I loved it for my first time out.
