Review of Flying D HipCamp
We had the best time staying at Flying D camp. The owners are extremely friendly and generous to open up part of their home (land, pool, cabana, ponds) for my husband, me and our dog to have a well deserved and long overdue peaceful getaway.
We have stayed at numerous Airbnb “cabins” and large campgrounds. Our experience at Flying D far surpassed any of those. I think the difference here is that the owners engaged with us (their guests) to make sure we were well taken care of. It was like staying a resort. So we in turn respected their property and tried to treat it like it was our own.
The tent camp sites are situated around a pool / cabana, surrounded by 2 ponds and horse pasture. Yes, this is on a horse farm :). There is also canoeing and fishing on the two surrounding ponds.
The pool and cabana can be compared to a pool house at a high-end residence.
The pool was kept very clean.
The cabana has a kitchen w/ wrap-around stainless countertops, a sink, grill, microwave, and new refrigerator. The bathroom was very clean w/ large walk-in shower. The hot water flowed immediately in the shower. The cabana does have high-speed internet access.
The grounds are very well maintained. The many acres of grass are kept like a residential lawn, ideal for our tent camping, so tent and gear stayed relatively clean despite the rain that came through.
We had great conversation with the owners and by the end of our stay, they felt like old friends.

Flying D Tent Camping
A hidden gem in Murray Kentucky! Our family was welcomed by Shauna & Ralph, who accompanied us to the spot late at night after a long day of driving. They were friendly, accommodating, and showed us where to set up our tents and access all the extras. Two ponds, an amazing saltwater pool, outdoor kitchen and bathroom made for quite a comfortable place to call home for two days. As we set up camp, we loved all the sights and sounds of nature….listening to the frogs and checking out the stars were our faves! Even at night, the heat and humidity in July were real, so the kids enjoyed a night swim in the lighted pool that was just the right temperature. In the light of the morning, the Flying D was even more glorious…..the horses, exploring the ponds by canoe, fishing, more swimming, and relaxing in the outdoor patio, it was a perfect day. Shauna & Ralph came to check on us and we ended up visiting for a while, learning about their local favorite places to eat. Martha’s Restaurant is a must…..down home cooking, extremely reasonable prices, and very hospitable. Murray’s Donuts were perfect for a quick breakfast on a travel day.
The accommodations were great here….shower with hot water, bathroom with sink and toilet. Paper towels, toilet paper and hand soap were provided, but bring your own towels :) The kitchen space…..a great full size refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, microwave, and small propane countertop grill.
Book it, you will be so glad you did! It’s an amazing find!

We loved the setting. You are surrounded by ponds and trees. We saw so much wildlife in addition the horses which are on the property. The heated salt water pool was clean and entertaining for both the adults and the grandchildren. They had a wonderful shady pavilion with a full bathroom. Kitchen sink, grill, microwave and refrigerator with ice maker made it easy to serve meals. Absolutely the best RV stop we have made. We will be back.

Flying D Tent Camping
Amazing place with a lot of convenient options. We were prepared to rough camp but with a beautiful pavilion in between the ponds, we were happy not to. Hot coffee in the morning and reheat in the microwave for lunch. We watched the NCAA championship on the TV and slept well in the tent on plush grass. It was to cool for the pool unfortunately. The hosts were gracious and friendly. Thank you for this lovely spot to land. 🥰We hope to return!

Flying D RV Camping
This is where we stayed for the 2024 Eclipse. Everything was very clean. Loved the horses, two fishing ponds and the mother goose on her eggs. We were able to watch the Iowa girls play the national championship at the cabana. The bathroom was Clean and wonderful hot water for a shower. We hooked up our RV trailer and was able to use the cabana kitchen to wash our dishes. We are coming back with the whole family!
