Kings Mountain National Military Park

Ready, aim, fire on over to King’s Mountain for a whole barrel-load of history and nature. Not only did the hour-long battle of King’s Mountain play a pivotal role in the Revolutionary War, it also was a benchmark battle for both female and African American soldiers. We know, we know, you can’t wait to see the awesome interactive museum filled with wall-to-wall artifacts and exhibits. But don’t forget about Battlefield Trail, offering one and a half miles of revolutionary history that includes monuments and other trailside sights. Oh, and did we mention how beautiful this place is? With sixteen miles of trails, this place is just begging you to hike along the ridges of Browns Mountain or make your way to lovely Lake Crawford for some top-notch birding. Get into the thick of it all at a backcountry campground, where you can fall asleep to a history so rich that it practically hums.
