Bloodwood Bush Shack, Queensland

Welcome to The Bloodwood Bush Shack. We offer several options for your outdoor getaway including the shack and the bush tent (the Paperbark Hilton).

We are around 21-22km drive to both Rules Beach, and also to the Deepwater National Park which offers additional beautiful beaches. It is a 15-20 minute drive to town for fuel, convenience store, ice, bait hardware, Bottle Shop and Pub/Cafe.

Our cute off-grid humpy (the Shack) is set on 40 acres in the bush, and is very private and quiet with only the odd car going along the dirt road. It is a place to get away from the noise and madness of city, of suburbs and of crowds. It is a place to enjoy nature and to enjoy peace. Importantly, you will have the entire 40 acre property to yourself.

Whilst it is perfectly setup for two adults, you are welcome to book for a larger party - such as the friends and family you may be holidaying with. Any additional guests (including children) need to provide their own beds and tents/campers/vans. There is plenty of cleared space for additional vehicles and tents, and access is great for caravans and campervans.

The shack is a single room with a Queen bed, couch, bench, stools and lighting inside and out. Being off-grid, the power is 12V and the water is rainwater. A USB port is available for charging phones. There is a 65Litre camping fridge inside, and a fan. 

Bedlinen is provided, and will be refreshed if you stay more than 7 nights. 

The deck is a lovely place to enjoy a meal and a beverage, and you can use the two burner gas BBQ to cook up a storm. 

Beside the shack is an enclosed bush bathroom with flushing toilet and COLD shower. Two 5000L rainwater tanks ensure you have fresh rainwater for showering and drinking only (please no filling water tanks in your 4WD or van/camper, as we have limited supplies).

When fires are permitted, you can use the fire pit. There is plenty of wood to burn. A shade cloth is available to get cars and bikes out of the sun, and there is room to park the boat.

Bring your own: plates, cutlery, cooking gear, saucepan/frypan, chopping board, shampoo, soap, dishcloth, dish liquid, bath towels, beach towels, tea-towels and food/drink.

Please note - there is no freezer, and the internet is patchy (Telstra customers may get 1 bar). And being off-grid with 12V power, your standard appliances like domestic hairdryers and laptops will not work.  

The Paperbark Hilton is setup for two, and you are welcome to book for a larger party - such as the friends and family you may be holidaying with. There is plenty of cleared space for additional vehicles and tents, and access is good for small camper trailers (but not for most caravans).  Pets are not permitted due to the wildlife.

The bush tent has a queen-sized "Queen-Anne Style" iron bed with linen and bath towels included. We'll refresh the linen should you stay longer than 7 days. Director Chairs with side tables allow you to relax inside or out and a 12V fan circulates the air in warmer evenings. Outside is a covered bush kitchen with pebbles underfoot. Relax by the dining table, cook up a storm on the BBQ, and cool your beverages in the 65L camp fridge.  The bench is made from repurposed timber from this property, perfect to prepare your salads and cheese platter. A USB port is available for charging phones. 

The kitchen includes the following equipment : BBQ tools, frypan, saucepan, whistling kettle, tea-towel, wash cloth, washing liquid, disinfectant spray, paper towels, chopping board, and plates/cups/mugs/cutlery for two (no glass).

Drinking water is available from the tank – and it’s lovely fresh rain water. 

A small firepit is provided for use when there are no firebans, and there's plenty of wood around!

Nearby is a private outdoor COLD bush shower.  What a lovely experience to shower outdoors under the blue sky or the stars, as the cool water freshens your skin.

Your toilet is an off-grid composting toilet.  It's a proper porcelain loo in a private room (please see the pictures). The only difference to your home toilet is that it doesn't flush. Very environmental - since water is not needed.
